The Tiger Rising

by Kate Dicamillo

This is an amazing story I just finished . It's about a boy who has a skin condition on his legs so he doesn't go to school. He lives with his father in an old motel because his mother died from cancer. One day he meets a girl named Sistine. She was named after the Sistine Chapel. He had read all about this place and he soon makes friends with Sistine. One day he discovers a tiger locked up in a cage in the woods. Later the owner of the motel shows it to him and says he'll pay him two dollars every time he feeds the tiger. He gives him all the keys to the cage. He's only supposed to unlock the little door on it to throw the meat in, but Sistine wants to help the tiger to let him go free. The boy, Rob, is sure that he should because a lady that's a cleaner at the motel told him a story about one time when she had a little pet bird, and she decided to let it go, and it got eaten by a snake. Rob isn't sure what to do. He is pressured by Sistine to let it go, but he's not sure what would happen if he did. You'll have to read the story to see if Rob let's it out and what happens to it.

(Warning anyone who can't stand sad story's DON'T READ THIS!!!)

Hi! It is me... from your Nims Island post and from my other post on here....

Do you know when the "chatterbox" will be up? Do you even know what that is? You problaby do... it is the one section on this Cricket mag site where we can have safe "chats" with other Cricket mag readers and it isn't ready yet. It says that the area for it is "too buggy", but coming soon! I just wanted to know if you have any idea when it is coming out and will be ready... sorry this is sooo long.

Dear Kirby,

Tater is working on the Chatterbox 24/7 and thinks it will be up and running in about a week (unless Ugly Bird gets to it).

I read this for school and it was AMAZING! I LOVED it! It was so sad though; I nearly cried!

Yeah. Its a really good book, but so sad! A good sad, though. Some books I read are just terrible, with their sadness. I just don't like some sad books. Others, though, really are good.
