The Goose Girl

by Shannon Hale

Anidori-Kiladra Talianna Isilee was borm Crown Princess of Kildenree. She lives with her aunt in the palace, learning stories and bird speech. When the aunt leaves, Ani's life is turned upside down. She is clumsy and doesn't like behaving like a princess should. When her father dies, she is sent to marry a prince she has never met. On the journey, her lady-in-waiting and a group of horrible men kill Ani's followers and try to killl the princess herself. Ani runs away, disguising herself as a forest girl. She gets a job tending the king's geese, afraid to tell the king who she is. While there, she discovers friends and talents she didn't know she had. I strongly recommend The Goose Girl, and its companion books, Enna Burning and River Secrets.

Loved it. Has anyone read Princess Academy by the same author?
