Island of the Blue Dolphins

by Scott O'Dell

This book is about an American Indian girl whose tribe sails from their island, but accidentally leaves her behind. She must survive on her own, find food, make herself a shelter, and not be killed by the wild dogs that live also on her island. It is very sad (I cried the first time I read it), so if you don't like sad books, DO NOT read this! But it is really good.

I really loved this book.  I think that it is a rare gem because it shows how strong girls can really be.  Also it was based on a true story which is amazing.

Good book!  I also read Streams to the River, River to the Sea by Scott O'Dell.  Amazing.  Sacagawea is AMAZING.  She's so brave.  I can't imagine living like that.  Scott O'Dell just has a problem ending books.  It's always so abrupt!  I WANT MORE! :)

This book was good, but it was kind of sad. If you like sad books, you should read it. I, personally, cried. And cried.Cry

Anyway, I love this book!  I haven't read it in a while, but I loved it when I did!  But maybe I like it because I like sad books and movies. Hmmm....

I really like this book but that's just my opinion. Basically, if you like books on animals, wilderness, and survival read it. If not, don't read it. Simple as that. If you like this book then you should also read stuff by Jean Craighead George. I think book is supercool! Smile

About a year ago, I started it, didn't like it, and stopped. Now everyone's telling me it gets a whole lot better and I should have continued Frown! Oh well. I'll look for it.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I like books where there is survival. Right now I'm reading Zia, the sequel to Island of the Blue Dolpins. And the title of a book doesn't, necessarily, have to relate directly to the story. It gives you something to think about. Smile

This book was recommended to me and it won an award, but it was not my favorite. It was sad, but it was not heartrendingly sad, in my opinion. Probalbly the biggest reason I did not really like it is because it just was dry to me. It is actually a true story, but they probalbly made some of it up.
