Percy Jackson and the Olympians, book 4, The Battle of the Labyrinth

by Rick Riordan

The Battle of the Labyrinth is about a boy named Percy Jackson who goes to a summer camp on Long Island, N.Y. It seems normal, right? What's different is that Percy's dad is Poseidon and his camp is called Camp Half Blood, where he and other half-bloods can find sanctuary from the monsters that try to kill them. When the evil Titan lord, Kronos, tries to destroy the camp, the Half-Bloods are confident that the camp's magic barrier will keep Kronos and his army out. But what they least expected was to find an entrance to an ancient labyrinth--in the middle of the camp! Percy soon realizes that if the Titan found another entrance and a way to navigate the maze, the camp would be as good as gone. So Percy and his friends Annabeth (Athena's daughter), Grover (a satyr) and Tyson (a cyclops) set out on a quest into the labyrinth to find it's maker, Daedalus, and convince him not to allow Kronos to pass. It's a great read!

Oh!   Oh!   Oh!   (spluttering noises at the unfairness of it all)

It TOTALLY does not seem fair that you, Mary Kate E., have access to this book and we do not. WELL?  Where did you get it?  Is there a special band of People Who Hog Amazing, Incredible Books?(P.W.H.A.I.B.)  Oh, The agony of it...  Oh well. This is an amazing series and everyone should read it.

You can get this wonderful book at an ordinary bookstore. Why wouldn't you have access to it? There's actually a fifth one (The Last Olympian) coming out in May. And by the way, 12 and four-fourths is equal to 13.

P.S. I LOVE THIS BOOK!

I thought The Last Olympian came out already: my friend has a copy and everyone is begging him to read it.

The Last Olympian came out shortly after I commented. And about everyone begging your friend to borrow it: that happened in my school, too. However, the person who had it didn't let me borrow it until everyone else in the school did (in other words, I had to borrow it on the second-to-last day of school). Oh well, at least I got to read it.

The whole series is awesome! The ending to Last Olympian especially was *perfect.* Totally unrealistic, of course, how well everything turned out for everyone, but completely and utterly perfect. :)

One question- Rick Riordan's titles. They're all totally random little themes that he sort of crams in towards the end of the books and have very little to do with the actual story. I suppose he might do this as a sort of "biggest isn't always best" type of theme- like with Hestia and all- but I still think it's a bit strange. No complaints, though. ;)

Oh, and the whole Luke thing was totally Darth Vader-ish, but excellent anyway.

All in all, terrific and really funny series. Five chirps!

Actually, I think the titles might have been metaphores - except for The Lightning Thief.

The Lightning Theif: The whole book was mainly about 'Who stole the lightning?'.

The Sea of Monsters: There were so many monsters in it, it was like a whole sea of them. Not to mention the ocean they had to cross with that name.

The Titans Curse: The titan was so evil, and so many bad things were happening because of him, it was all basically his curse, not just the Thalia/tree incident.

The Battle of the Labyrinth: Not only was the battle at the end called such, getting through the Labyrinth was such a struggle, 'twas as if they were fighting the maze itself!

The Last Olympian: Hestia represented sacrifice. Percy had to make a huge one at the end

This book is amazing. The whole series is awesome. In answer to your question about 'who stole the lightning?' The answer is 'who stole the lightning bolt'. Zeus' lightning bolt to be precise. The Lightning Bolt Thief seems too long to me and it gives too much away. The Lightning Thief is more exciting. My opinion of course.

Well, I wouldn't give it 5 chirps. The books are good, but I hate Percy the character. I think he's stupid and annoying. I wish someone else could be the main character.

Speaking of charracters, who is everyone's favourite? Mine is Rachel, but I also really like Grover and Annabeth. They'd be tied for my second, I think.

Really? I mean, yes, he was sort of a Stu, but nonetheless mildly entertaining. I personally detested Rachel, though otherwise liked almost everyone else. Hades? Very cool. My favourite was probably Nico, though. He was awesome. <3

A Stu? Percy? I'll never understand why people say that... He just thinks so primitively!
