The Two Princesses of Bamarre

by Gail Carson Levine

The Two Princesses of Bamarre is a book about two princesses named Addie and Meryl. When Meryl is taken is by a serious sickness, Addie has to go on a quest to save her. She fights gryphons and dragons as she goes. This book is great for people who like fantasy and adventure. I would highly recommend this book.

I've read several books by Gail Carson Levine, but this was my favorite by far. Normally, the author just twists faerie tales around, and the characters in her books are pretty much the same. But here she writes her own original story, and the characters are really unique and well-written, especially the dragon.

I love GCL, and I loved this book. The characters were indescribably awesome.

@ Ima Bookworm: I think GCL is really original on all accounts- so many redone fairy tales turn out cliched, but hers are good.

This was an awesome book. I found the ending bittersweet, but in a good way. If you look on the cover of the book, I always thought the girl with the brown hair was Meryl, but I guess not.

I love this book! (Though my favorite of GCL's is "Ella Enchanted") I always pronounced Rhys, Riz, or at least Riss. Odd spelling for something pronounced "Rice," though not unimaginable....:):):)

Yes, I've read Fairest. I think it had too much in common with Ella Enchanted.

I love Gail Carson Levine, with a few exeptions. Fairest, for instance - I started it but couldn't get past the fourth chapter. It's not that the writing was bad, it's just that the story made me gag. However, as mentioned, Two Princesses of Bamarre is one of my favorite books, and I enjoyed Ella Enchanted. Her reworked fairy tales are also a pleasant quick read.
