Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Ultimate CB Book Log
Have you read...

Have you read a book recently?

Enter its name here. This is the 2017 Ultimate CB Book Log. Well, technically starting in 2016, but who cares?

This is a place for us to keep a huge, giant log of books, both for ourselves, and also so other CBers can see what we're reading. Everytime you finish a book--whether you've read it or not--put its name and author here. You don't have to talk about it or anything...you just type in its title. We can discuss books here if you want, but it's not required.

Have fun!

I think this is a great idea, Owlgirl!

Ender's Shadow--Orson Scott Card, *****

Oh my goodness, I love Bean!!!! ;-;

This is probably on par with Ender's Game for me--just as good. I am a total book nerd, so I did something really silly--I went back and forth between Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow to read it from the different POV's...please tell me I'm not the only person that's done something like this!

For those that don't know, Ender's Game is the main quartet/quintet. Ender's Shadow is the first book in the parallel series told from Bean's POV, and it's absolutely adorable. Bean for life. xD

A War of Gifts: An Ender Story--Orson Scott Card, **** 1/2

Very good. Just read it. I can't explain it very well. There is a lot of discussion about religion since that's what the story is about, so if that's not your thing, then this isn't the book for you. It's also pretty easy to understand even if you haven't read Ender's Game. It's a short story.

Tuck Everlasting--Natalie Babbit, *****

Okay, yes, I'm crying. This was almost worse than the musical. In a good way. And Rose bud, you were right--it did answer most of my questions. ;D

Yay! I'm so glad you read it! I feel like most people are familiar with the movie or musical but not the book! The book is honestly my fave version (because it's the original) :)

Haha, I'm glad I read it too! Honestly, I found her writing just the slightest bit too flowery for me, but the story was so good I couldn't put it down. It was very good. ;)

Leviathan and Behemoth, both by Scott Westerfeld. ***** These are amazing, and you should all read them! It's basically a steam punky version of WWI. Oh, and there are blimp-whale hybrids. Yeah, it's awesome.

OH MY GOODNESS. Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! Okay. I started this series a week and a half ago, and I finished the first book in a day. I was hooked from page one. The next day I got book two from the library, and I've been devouring them relentlessly ever since. It is SO GOOD. One of the best books I've read in forever. I'm making myself save Nightfall until Friday because I'll have a nine or ten hour drive to WI and it'll give me more than enough to do during the ride. But it is AGONY, especially since I have it already ordered, sitting in a box on my dresser. It's all I can do not to open it until Friday morning, because I know if I do, I won't be able to restrain myself from tearing through it before the trip. And I'm having the most terrible wiithdrawals...XD Sorry, rant over.

Shadow of the Hegemon, Orson Scott Card--**** 1/2

Okay. Once again, did NOT think I was going to like this (I thought, too much politics--blegh.) but I ended up liking it way more.  I feel so bad for Bean now, I literally sat in bed for like 15-30 minutes after finishing it, staring at the book and thinking about Bean, Petra, Achilles, Suri--GAH!!!! THE FEELS!

Okay. Okay, I'm fine. Well, one last thing--just started Shadow Puppets and I'm seriously shipping Bean x Petra.

Shadow Puppets, Orson Scott Card--**** 1/2

See above. Thought wouldn't like, too much politics, etc., etc.

Man, I really need to stop underestimating this writer's abilities to make me cry. Waiting for Book 4 to come in through ILL (InterLibrary Loan) desperately. Thankfully, I have other books to read...

The Fever Code, James Dashner--*****

Newt. That is all. *tears*

The Kill Order, James Dashner--***

Blegh. Didn't really like it that much, reminded me of Scorch Trials (least favorite in the original trilogy) and I honestly just don't care about Teresa. Sorry. xD

Pennyroyal Academy by M.A. Larson *****

I LOVED this. It's about a girl from the forest with no name who enlists in Pennyroyal Academy, a school that trains Princesses and Knights to fight witches and dragons. It may sound a bit predictable and cheesy at first, but it's really good and full of unexpected plot twists.

The books I’ve read most recently are:

- Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, both by Leigh Bardugo

- The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak (I had already read it a few years ago)

- Mosquitoland, by David Arnold

- Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertalli (if anyone’s seen the movie “Love, Simon”, it was based off of it)

- Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer
