Hey all! So,

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book Recommendations!
Hey all! So,...

Hey all! So, summer is here and I have nothing to read! Oh, the cruel irony of life: I stay up 'til midnight reading on a school night, but now I have time to read and no new books! Ah, horror! Hopefully I'll get to the library soonish, so does anyone have any recommendations? I like fantasy and fiction best, but really I'll read pretty much anything. Thank you! :)

~Kiki Strike: Under the Shadow City, by Kirsten Miller (It's the first book in the Kiki Strike series)

~Crenshaw, by Katherine Applegate

~The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, by Lillian Jackson Braun (It's also the first book in the "the Cat Who . . ." series)

Thanks! I've read Out of My Mind a couple times (Amazing book, by the way! I'd recommend it, too!) and I'll look into the other ones! :)

Oh, and the last one I suggested is the beginning of a 31-book murder mystery series written one a year since *googles* 1966!

Secretkeepers by Trenton Lee Stewart! This is one of my all time favorite books. It's about a boy who finds a mysterious watch, on a ledge of a building about twenty feet up, with no windows. He then goes on an adventure to find out where it came from.

Nobody give her any more recommendations until she has read this, because it's just so good!

Just kidding about no other recommendations, but go! All of you! Go to the library, check it out, and read it!

The Secret Keepers? The characters kind of disappointed me a little. My judgment is probably a little skewed because I haven't read it in a while, but it seemed like too many of them were either daisies or OP, and some were too mature. Not in a curse words or inappropriate kind of way; in a perceptive, socially skilled and empathetic way. I know it's kind of the point that they're different from other people, but it sometimes edged towards unrealistic. It's otherwise a very good book and one worth reading, though. I loved the premise, the world and the attention to detail, and the way the villain was defeated.

Oh, pretty much anything, as long as it's well written. Harry Potter. Septimus Heap. Anything by Tamora Pierce! His Dark Materials. The Giver. Tell me something you really like.

Hmm, okay. . .

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Young Elites by Marie Lu

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

I fell in love with all of these, the writing is amazing, as well as the characters, plot, and world-building!!

Tamora Pierce is great! Her books often feature female heroines who prevail by hard work, instead of cleverness, which is often the way that women in stories prevail in mostly male spaces.

Oooh, a fellow Septimus Heap fan! That series gets so little hype but it's so good!

I recommend:

-A Mango Shaped Space by Wendy Mass (realistic fict. about a girl with synthesia)

- Nimona by Noelle Stevenson (fantasy graphic novel about a villian and his spunky shape-shifter "side-kick"-it's really amazing)

- A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (I don't know what genre this is, maybe adventure)

- The Lunar Chronicles

- Lumberjanes (it's a comic)

Thank you, thank you! I've read A Mango Shaped Space and finished A Series of Unfortunate Events. They were both amazing, so I'll check out your other recommendations!
