ERAGON
Over the summer...

Over the summer I read what has become my third favorite series of all time (first is HP and second is Artemis Fowl). These books are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I generally don't enjoy all the mystical-medieval-dragons-farmboy-to-hero books, but this whole series absolutely blew me away. Has anyone else read the Eragon books? Favorite characters? Favorite moments?

I love Eragon. It took me a bit to get through them, but it is one of the best series I've ever read. I really like Saphira and Nasuada. Oh yeah, and Eragon's half-brother(having a blank, can't remember his name). There are so many good parts in the series, but one of my favorites is when Nasuada is in the torture room and starts to fall in love with Eragon's half-brother.

Eragon is the one series that I have wanted to read for years but never got to. Maybe this year!

Oh, yeah, the Eragon books are some of my favorites. Along with, say, about 150 other books, of course.

Am I the only person who has noticed that Eragon has the exact same plot as Star Wars Episode 1V? I used to really like this book, but in the years since I first finished it, I think that my opinions have become a bit more complicated. On the one hand, it does occasionally have some interesting character moments, but they're nothing super interesting or original. It also has pretty much every fantasy trope ever.

I agree with Blue Smoke. I could definitely tell that Christopher Paolini was a fan of Star Wars. It does have LOTS of parallels. I really enjoyed the series despite this, though.

I doubt that Paolini intentionally plagarized Star Wars, because both have a pretty standard hero's journey, but the details are eerily similar.

Its a great book and all, but it doesn't sing for me. I thought it was an extremely cliched and predictable book. I didn't notice the Star Wars similarity, but it makes sense now. Although, I gotta give Christopher Paolini some credit. He WAS only 16 when he wrote it. (Sorry you guys. I really don't like it. I never read the sequels though, because the first book was so badly written. Are they better?)

I love The Inheritance Cycle (or Eragon, as you call it). It is my second favorite series. It was my favorite until I discovered King’s Dark Tidings. (It was very hard to admit that I liked King’s Dark Tidings better). I do make many usernames Arya Drottning because Arya is my favorite character (SPOILER: especially when she becomes a dragon rider and “Drottning” not “Drottningu”)

How could anyone like any other character except Angela? I wish Paolini did a whole series on her background!

Eh, it was okay for me. I've only read them once, the whole series, because they didn't really stand out in life to me. Like Blue Smoke said, they do indeed have pretty much every fantasy cliche ever created in them. My biggest problems was I found them...boring. And bloody.

Now, don't get me wrong, the first book? INCREDIBLE. Doesn't stand out in my head, but I like it. The rest of them...not so much. I really don't like the other three books. Now, I read these when I was like 9 so I should reread them soon (it's been a good few years) but I don't own them because I didn't like them that much. XD

I thought the end of the series was adorable but absolutely stupid. The very last scene in the book with Eragon and Arya? Touching, but wasn't a big fan of it. And by the way, am I the only person here who likes Murtaugh?!!? XD He was like--the best part of that book.

Sapphira is defiently just something that had to be in the book. She counters most of the annoying characters, keeps Eragon under wraps (for the most part..)

That's another reason I didn't like it, the same reason I hate Harry from Harry Potter but the last 3 books in particular. Both Eragon and Harry are so...WHINY. Annoying. Teenangsty. I hate it. I cant stand to read about that kind of person.

Sorry for the rant.

P.S. KtG, in my opinion, NO. If anything, the last 3 books are worse that the first one.

Eragon! Some of my favorite books. And, of course, the best character is Angela. Obviously. Anyone else agree?

I don't remember a character called Angela. Which books was she in?
