Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Battle of the books
I was just...

I was just wondering if anyone did Battle of the Books, and if so, if they could tell me? I had heard of it before, and now my school's starting a team, and it sounds like something I would like.

So, basically, can anyone tell me about Battle of the Books? Thanks.

OOH ME ME I'M DOING IT

At my school they call it book wars, but yeah, I'm doing it. So it's basically a book trivia contest. So, everyone has to read a bunch of books and then you go up against other schools in a trivia contest. My contest is at the beginning of April!

I’m doing it! Sadly, it’ll be my last year battling because I’m in 8th Grade, but I have a really good group. We have to read books that are called “Rebecca Caudills” which are books that are nominated for the Rebecca Caudill award. These Rebecca Caudills are for grades 6-8. Then, in high schools, there are “Lincoln Award Books.” These are young adult books. On the day of the battle, we go up in our groups and we get asked questions about the books. If you get one wrong, the other team gets a point. If you win the battle, you get invited to a free luncheon at school (this May be different for other schools)

soooo yeah! That’s basically it.

Wow, I competed in Battle of the Books when I was in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, many years ago! I loved it. Many of the books on my required reading list were books I never would have picked up otherwise, but they turned out to be wonderful and some of my favorite books of all time. Competition was tough but exciting. And I enjoyed practices because it meant discussing the books with my team. If it's anything like it was when I competed, I highly recommend it.
