Chatterbox: Blab About Books

BOOK RATINGS+DESCRIPTIONS
Hi all! I...

Hi all! I just finished a novel, and I don't know which one to read next! Any recommendations? I like books that are LGBTQ+, fiction, fantasy, humor, adventure, and romance themed books. Some books I have enjoyed are...

"Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library," by Chris Grabenstein

"Every Day," by David Levithan

"The Art of Being Normal," by Lisa Williamson

Thanks for your help!

Also,  this can be a place to give other people book recommendations. Just write the book name, a short description, and rate it 1-10 (One being horrible, Ten being amazing)

A few excellent books popped into my head from your description of what you said you like, so here they are.

In Other Lands by Sarah Rees-Brennan.

This book seems like your typical fantasy book at first, but it actually turns a lot of tropes on their heads and provides a meaningful, thought-provoking commentary on real social issues like sexism and homophobia. There are LGBTQ+ characters, a good amount of romance, and lots of witty banter. I’ll give it an 8.5 since, though I really loved it, the first quarter or so is pretty boring.

(Note: whether or not you’ll like this book is kind of a toss-up depending on your personality and stuff. Some people can’t stand the main character, who is quite often a selfish, snarky jerk, but I adored him, mostly because I could relate to him a lot... which now that I think about it is probably a bad sign.)

Literally Anything by Leigh Bardugo

First of all, Leigh is an absolute QUEEN and actual goals, in writing, life, and general awesomeness. She’s written the Grisha Trilogy and the Six of Crows Duology, all of which are incredible. There’s romance, action, strong female characters, lots of diversity, awesome villains, and the love of my life and biggest fictional crush: Nikolai Lantsov. *swoons*

I’d recommend reading the Grisha Trilogy first, which I did not do. It works to read SoC first, but it spoils a wee bit of GT stuff and you won’t have the enjoyment and cackling excitedly at the cameos and references.

Overall, the Grisha Trilogy gets a 9 from me. Two points were taken off for Mal and one was regained because Nikolai. The SoC duology is a very solid 11. I personally like it more, but you should definitely read both.
