Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Heart wrenching quotes
Okay, so I...

Okay, so I was just reading WOF for the third time or so and I came to this sentence:

I did it. I told her. And the world didn't collapse.

And I be like OH MY GOSH THREAD YUS so here's this thread for the posting of little tidbits of books that make you go "Awwwww, so sweeeet!" inside. Please say which books they are from. :)

The captain gave me a kind look. "When I wasn't much older than you, I had a rather ill-advised romance. I was like you, Matt, from a humble family, but her people were very wealthy. It caused no end of trouble."

I looked at him in surprise, for I'd never know this about him. But I feared what he would say next.

"Everyone told us no good could come of it," Captain Walken said.

"What happened, sir?" I asked.

"I married her," he said, and grinned. "We had our thirtieth anniversary this year."

This is from a book called Starclimber by Kenneth Oppel.

Noted! I just read the Phantom of the Opera - the real one, not the short simplified version - and on page 73 it says

Raoul suffered, for she was very beautiful, while he was shy and dared not to confess his love, even to himself.

Raoul, all I have to say to you is yup. *Nods and shrugs sadly*

Here are a few from FIVE KINGDOMS by Brandon Mull-

"What's your name?"

"Want to guess?"

"It would take a miracle."

Also-

"Die bravely."

And-

"We're all going to die. What matters is how we die. And how we live. Leaving when I could've helped--that would kill me more than dying. It just would. Someone has to fight the hard fights. There are times when somebody else can't do it. Or just won't. I've had a chance to go home before. But I'm not leaving until I defeat Ramarro."

From one of my all-time favorite books, Listening To Lucca, there's this quote that the MC says and it's absolutely like the saddest ever.

"Hey little bug.  Is there room for me?"

Of course there was!  I stretched my arms up to him as he sat down.  I pressed my face into his shirt and felt it grow wet with tears.

"Good work pretending for Jezzie.  You aren't such a little bug anymore, are you?  How've you been?"

I shook my head and cried harder.

"You can tell me.  I'm here now.  Please?"

This book is SO good I actually cried the first couple times I read it.

Well, I have a really heart-wrenching quote in mind, but it's from a video game... Also do quotes from comic books/graphic novels count?

Well, if video game quotes count, here's mine. It only really works if you've played the game (it's from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, but it references the original Knights of the Old Republic), but the gist is that there's two people who were kind of in love during the first Knights of the Old Republic and one of them (the girl, Revan) leaves to find answers for something and the other person, her boyfriend (Carth), really misses her.

Gosh, that was a really long and complicated sentence. You have my respect if you read that whole thing.

So anyway, this is the conversation where Revan's boyfriend is trying to find Revan and asks someone, who has Revan's ship, about her:

"And here you are, with her ship, without her."

"Do you want me tell you if I find her?"

"No. Just tell her that Carth Onasi is waiting for her."

The Grishaverse has a lot of goodies. Here are a few, but I'm pretty sure there are enoug Grishverse fans on here to fill in the gaps.

"I am not ruined. I am ruination."

"I'm the Sun Summoner. It gets dark when I say it does."

"I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting."

"Do not be afraid. Fear is how they control you. There’s so much in the world you don’t have to be afraid of, if you would only open your eyes."

"Fear is a phoenix. You can watch it burn a thousand times and it will return."

"What about the nobodies and the nothings, the invisible girls? We learn to hold our heads as if we wear crowns. We learn to wring magic from the ordinary. That was how you survived when you weren’t chosen, when there was no royal blood in your veins. When the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway."

And more.

I love these! Here are a few more:

“It makes you wonder. All the brilliant things we might have done with our lives if only we suspected we knew how.”

- Bel Canto, Ann Patchett

“I don’t want to be forgotten.”

- Vicious, V. E. Schwab

“Just... isn't giving up allowed sometimes? Isn't it okay to say, ‘This really hurts, so I’m going to stop trying’?”

- Fangirl, Rainbow Rowell

“Before that she hadn’t realized how fragile happiness was, how if you were careless, you could knock it over and shatter it.”

- Everything I Never Told You, Celeste Ng

“You were the sun, and I was crashing into you. I'd wake up every morning and think, 'This will end in flames.”

- Carry On, Rainbow Rowell

I have a really good one, but I think it may be a little too depressing for the CB.
