The Darkest Minds (and Dystopian in General)
I read the...
I read the Darkest Minds recently, and I'm starting to be convinced that Dystopian is the best genre.
1) The Darkest Minds is amazing. I'd look into it, but warning, it's a pretty mature book, but I'm ten, so... You never know. (I'd check with a parent if your parents are like that.)
2) Dystopian is so interesting. I mean, teenagers are cool to read about, because 90% of the time they're making awful decisions and getting themselves into trouble. Also, I don't like when people wilt at the sight of romance. I think a little bit of it is necessary for a good book, especially one in the Dystopian genre. Also, the Dystopian genre feels a lot like Hi-Fi (which is also a good genre). I suggest trying it out sometime. (Unless it's the Hunger Games. Don't base your dystopian experience on the Hunger Games.)
3) Try to reinvent your tastes. I have a friend who loves historical fiction. It's his (yes, his) favourite genre and he really likes it. So I was like, I'm going to try Historical Fiction. It wasn't my favourite, but in the process I found dystopia. And I don't regret it. I mean, in my class, we're all nerds and geeks at heart. It's just kind of our thing. So when we trade book recommendations (yes, we do that sort of thing), we ask about a person's favourite genre and then give a recommendation that's completely the opposite. You know my Hi-Fi-obsessed friend? I suggested the Inheritance Cycle. (Side note: He hated it.) But I have had friends that really like the genres they switched to. And if you hate it, try more stuff. To click as a reader, you have to find the genre that makes you feel like a million dollars.
So get out there in this slightly messed-up world and make yourself feel better by just not being in it. Because that's what readings all about.
With peace and love,

The Darkest Minds certainly looks cool. Thanks! I've put it on hold.

(Also, I did like The Hunger Games, though they deteriorated as the series went on. The third book was an emotional masterpiece, but absolutely impossible to read.)
