July book of the month:

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

This is an amazing book! I have read/listened to it many times and still love it!

It is set in the 1860s and is about the four March sisters, Meg, who is prim and sweet, and rather like a second mother to her sisters, Jo, who is wild and headstrong, but is also a brilliant writer, Beth, who is a little angel in every way, and Amy, who was born for a wealthy life. The girl’s father is away as a surgeon in the civil war, and they are left with their Marmee and their servant Hannah. Their family was once wealthy, but their father lost all their money trying to help a friend. They meet a wealthy neighbor boy named Laurence (or Laurie for short) and set off on a series of adventures and calamities that will have you laughing, crying, and thoroughly enchanted.

I give this 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm currently about halfway through reading Little Women for the second time because the first time I read it I gave up...I think I was like ten...

There are also a ton of great adaptions of this book!  More to the Story by Hena Khan and the graphic novel adaption which I think was published in 2019/2018 are both really good!

Little Women is definitely a good book, nice choice! Even though it was written over 100 years ago, it is still (at least in most parts) relatable and funny! There are a couple things I don't like about it, all of which are probably due to the time period. The one I disliked the most is that Amy decided not to follow her dreams to become an artist because she doesn't think it's worth being one if she can't be the best of the best. She'd rather just give it up completely, even though it's one of her passions in life! And they made it clear that she was very talented and probably could have made some money off it, not to mention enjoying it! I mean, if we all thought that way, there would be barely any art, music, or inventions in the world. That's about it, actually. Overall a great book, though!

Also, I've seen the newest movie adaption; it's very good. I've read the graphic novel, too, and I loved it, although I agree that it's really a different story than the original. But I think it's cool that they changed it because, really, there's so many more options for girls and women today other than just getting married and having kids right away (although there's nothing wrong with that), and I think the March girls would have taken advantage of that. Although I now have another gripe with how Amy was portrayed: honestly her personality was nothing like the original Amy.

End of rant.

I feel like Amy giving up is more her character than the time period, everyone else was encouraging her to keep going. Also, if you read the next two books (liitle men and Jo's boys) you will see that she actually does keep doing art. And you will also see that some girls end up not getting married (by choice) and they even touch on issues such as voting rights for women and whether women should have to listen to everything men say. Louisa May Alcott was a very forward-thinking woman and I think she would agree with you wholeheartedly about things like women's rights. That's just my opinion and I don't know if you have read the next two books.

Yeah, I haven't read any of the other books. I guess it's true that it was her character, now that you mention that. TBH what I was actually mad about was that it's not the choice I would have made. Also what I said about the graphic novel isn't completely true, grapic novel Amy and original Amy do have some similarities.

The graphic novel adaption (Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy) shouldn't be an adaption of a beloved classic. It should be its own book. I liked the artwork, but in the adapting process, I think Terciero moved away from the original.

True...i really liked it but some of the charaters' personalities got a little wonky.
