Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Adventures of Tintin
Hi! I thought...

Hi! I thought I'd do my part for the #ReviveBaB movement, so here goes nothing...

Does anyone else here LOVE Tintin? I started reading them when I was five, and re-read some of them earlier this year. I'm picking up so much more on this reading - the art and characters are so nice to look at, and the stories are (mostly) very clever (don't even get me started on Flight 714 to Sydney) There's also a lot more political commentary that I'm picking up on. My favorite book is probably The Blue Lotus (the landscapes are gorgeous).

Anyhoo, chat away here about these books! Who's your favorite character? Do you also hate Flight 714? What's up with Thompson and Thomson, anyway?

Ciao for now!

We have every book, including "The Adventures of TinTin in the Land of the Soviets" and the unfinished one, "TinTin and Alph-Art". I haven't read them in a while though, maybe I should. My favorite charcater is Captain Haddock heehee

@Aqua - Flight 714 really annoys me because it takes the universe of the books - which up to that point have been very much grounded in reality (the most crazy it gets is The Seven Crystal Balls, and that's still pretty rooted in the real world) - and throws it all out of the window. Herge actually had some hatred towards Tintin in his later years (he felt that he was defined too much by the fact that he wrote and illustrated a children's comic strip) and I feel it really shows there. The villians are barely a threat, the gags are pretty lame, the drawings look like another artist knocking off Herge's style (which it was, Herge had his studio do pretty much all the drawing for him), and all that is even before the ALIENS --

Sorry, this turned into a rant. I just really don't like it, so much so that I pretend it isn't canon (which is easy because the ALIEN INTERVENTION HAS NO BEARING ON THE REST OF THE SERIES - okay I'm stopping again, sorry).

What do you think of Alph-Art? I think it would've been a really fun ending to the series - it's a shame Herge didn't finish it...

Lucinda says doizo. Sounds like the name of a Star Wars character to me...

Yes, I love Tintins! I've read almost all of them, but I don't have (and therefore have never read) Tintin in the Congo, Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, or Tintin and AlphArt. They're so funny!! If I absolutely had to choose a favorite I'd probably choose The Castafiore Emerald, but they're practically all really good.
