Introducing.... the book recs thread! All you have to do is post a comment describing the sort of book your looking for!

For example: You could say something like "I am looking for an enaging mystery."

And someone replies with (a) reccomendation(s) that fit what you're looking for!

This seems cool!

I'm looking for mysteries or realistic fiction (anything is good really) preferrably middle grade fiction, but YA works too :) basically any good book I haven't read already XD

Try the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz! It's about a reluctant teen spy who stops crazy villains and stuff. Middle grade fiction, maybe bordering on YA, but it's really good :)

Thank you!

It's more adventure than mystery, but Ghost in the Graveyard by Johnathan Rand is great! I think it's younger middle grade, but it's a good read. I'd also recommend The Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosch!

THE MAGIC MISFITS SERIES by Neil Patrick Harris. Just amazing, and mysterious and realistic but also magic... just read it and it will blow your mind.

I'm in desperate need of new books!  I read a mix of middle-grade and YA, as well as graphic novels.  My favorite genre is fantasy but the only genre I really don't like is historical fiction (unless it's really interesting).  I'm looking for something with strong characters, an interesting plot, and a story that will keep me entertained.  Some of my favorite series are Harry Potter, Aru Shah, and The Aurora Cycle, if that helps.

*rubs hands together* I have so many book recommendations...I feel like I spend like 30% of my life just Googling books. So...

-The Nameless City is a graphic novel series set in a fantasy world based on ancient China. It is centered on a city that cycles through war and invasion without ever finding a true ruler, and the main characters are Rat, a native girl who was born in the city, and Kai, a boy of the current ruling nation. The art in these is amazing!

-If you like Aru Shah, the other Rick Riordan Presents books that I've read are Sal and Gabi Break the Universe and its sequel (both hilarious and really good!!), Dragon Pearl (based on Korean mythology I think but set in a futuristic world), and Storm Runner (I didn't finish that one because I didn't like it as much...the writing style was kind of the same as Percy Jackson but just not as good?).

-The Wild Magic trilogy by...I forgot the author's name. It's about a girl whose mother was born in a land of witches but came to the mundane world as a child. When witches start appearing in their world and steal's Mup mother (the girl's name is Mup and I love it so much), Mup has to venture into the witch world to save her. There are 2 more books obviously, as it is a trilogy.

-The Stella Montgomery series is set in Victorian England and the main character is a girl who can't seem to achieve her evil aunts' expectations, but who may have a magical power that she is unaware of.

WOw that was way more in depth than I experted. xD

Try Wings of Fire (book series). The first few books actually also have a graphic novel version! But I personally like the novels better. I've read each book (14) so many times, yet it never gets old (to me, at least.). It's by Tui T. Sutherland. Also, I agree with you on book genres and level! So I'm off to find out more about what 'The Aurora Cycle' is.

Oh, yes please! I'm looking for YA fantasy books that don't revolve completely around romance. It's not that I hate romance, but it's central in nearly every YA book, especially fantasy, and it's getting on my nerves.

Septimus Heap by Angie Sage, Fablehaven by Brandon Mull, and Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer! They're some of my favorite fantasy series, and I don't think there's a ton of romance in them.

I love Artemis Fowl. It's perfect if you like books that make you think, and smart takes on fairytales. :)

I totally agree about the romance thing! For a while I was into YA dystopian/fantasy books because all of my friends liked them, and they were really well written, but then I realized I don't actually like dystopian sci fi at all and they had so much romance...it was just too much. Like the Lunar chronicles...I feel like you can't read a single page without an overload of love details...anyway I don't really read YA anymore because of that xD

And that was my rant for the day ;)

@Sterling - Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger!

@Morning - How to Train Your Dragon (the books) by Cressida Cowell and Endling by Katharine Applegate both have very limited romance (maybe a minor crush or two in HTTYD), although they're more middle-grade than YA. Also I totally agree that too many books have too much romance.

I like giving book recommendations :)
