Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Admin, can we send letters to the Letterbox pretending to be fictiional characters from books/movies, and if we send them, will you actually print those letters?

My, you certainly come up with the hypothetical situations! We'll have to discuss it, but it will be at least a few weeks. The other two Admins are out for a while. Generally, I think letters should be signed by the people who wrote them. Letterbox is for letters from readers, not for a pretend game. And we can never say in advance for sure that we'll print any one letter. We get way more than we have room to print.

Has it been discussed yet?

Yes, we've discussed it. There are no limitations on letters readers can send in, but we can't promise in advance to print any specific one because we get so many letters. If you are pretending to be a book or movie character, please make that clear to us at the top of the page. Even we book-loving Admins are not familiar with every book and movie ever created.

A number of years ago, Jack Sparrow (from Pirates of the Carribean) wrote in to the Letterbox and I think another pirate did as well a few months later. I don't remember the issues they were in.

Oh . . . I do remember hearing from old Jack once. It was a long time ago. . . .

Peter Pan wrote to Spider maybe a year ago. I know since Steve gets it and I flip through it.

If we're going to mention related magazines, Muse gets letters from made-up characters all the time. Sometimes they're from books and movies and stuff, but usually, the writer invents them, and they vary a lot. I remember there was a letter from a bacterium once.
