Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

CB Dictionary/A Hitchhike

CB Dictionary/A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Chatterbox

Hope you enjoy, and please add terms!

AE = alter ego. Sometimes made by CBers as a separate identity. Eg. Brookeira, Winter Firefly, St.Owl, Somebody. See also Alter Ego Thread.

Alter Ego Thread = thread where AEs are allowed. Established to prevent AEs from overrunning CB .

BaB = blab about books. An area where book reviews, queries for book suggestions/votes, and book quote games often are posted.

Book Quote Game = a game where one CBer submits a book quote. The next CBer must guess the book from which the quote originates and post a new quote. Can go on indefinitely. Extremely popular.

CaC = chirp at cricket. An area where assorted messages to other CBers, guides to the CB, and letters for Letterbox often are posted.

CB = chatterbox.

CBer = a person who goes on CB.

CBer picturing = a game where CBers state how they picture other CBers.

Charrie = a character made by a CBer for use in a RP . Most RPs allow from one to three charries. This term is largely outdated, since most CBers now use simply "character".

Compliment Tree = a thread where CBers post compliments for one another. Often established in times of conflict.

DtE = down to earth. An area where posts about the CB, surveys, compliment trees, and real life issues are often posted.

Inkwell = the inkwell. An area where posts about RRs, RPs, and other stories/story ideas are often posted.

PP = pudding's place. An area where posts about art, music, movies, drama, or games such as the Ski Lodge are often posted.

SI = secret identity. CBers post with a different name. Other CBers try to guess who it is. Usu. on Pudding's Place.

Ski Lodge = a game created by Ruby/Red under the pseudonym T.O.N. A classic on the CB that has now had many imitations.

Survey = a game where CBers post information about themselves.

RP = role play. CBers submit a charrie and write as that charrie. Usu. on Inkwell, in first person present. May have a theme, such as Fantasy or Post-Apocalyptic.

RR = round robin. CBers start a short story, adding on. Usu. on Inkwell, with a limit to how many words a person can add at a time.

This is great, Air!

Captcha: The spambot. Many CBers (including myself) "adopt" one and give it a name. If you see something like "Clode says pbbz. Clode is sleepy", they are referring to their Captchas.

Mudkip. (Mud-kip.) noun. A cute blue water-type Pokèmon that appears to be a favorite on the CB.

Ask Admin Thread = a thread where people post questions for the Admin (see FAQs for definition of Admin) to answer, usually about the Admin themselves, Cricket Magazine, or Chatterbox posts to be deleted, found, or asked about, eg. I submitted a post two hours ago, Admin, do you know if it got posted?

We can't keep track of comments we post, who they're from; there are just too many. We do post from oldest to most recent, so if you submitted it before this comment, it should have been posted by now.

This is wonderful! I am new here so it was very helpful.

I have a  question, what happens after you join a RP?

Also, in the March issue of Cricket in chirps from chatterbox someone posted something under, "Fictional problems." I'm wondering if there is a place to post something like that.

Maybe someone reading this will remember which section of Chatterbox it's on. Or start a new thread. I guess on Inkwell. I'd say it's creative writing.

1. Hi Shadow Dragon! Nice to meet you!

2. So, when you join an RP, you submit a comment with your character. Usually this includes things like appearance, name, age, personality, and depending on the story it might have some things like their background or which side they're on. That varies a lot. Then, people start writing! Most people write from first person present. You interact with other people's characters and move the plot along. For example, if I had a character named Wind and you had a character named Darkness, I could write something like this:

______________

Wind~

I blow along the street. Then, I see a shadow ahead of me.

"Darkness?"

The voice comes out of the shadow. "It's me, Darkness."

"Come on. The elements are gathering," I say.

I see Darkness churn. "I'm coming."

______________

So, I met and talked to your character, and then moved the plot along by having you join me in the gathering. It's fun to interact with other characters, since it makes the RP more fun! Sometimes, someone else might sweep your character up in a quest or other plot development, and you can adapt to the plot twist!

Just some advice: Try to meet up with other characters. Plot twists are fun! Just write, don't worry.

You can write whatever you want, within some reason. But RPs are a core part of the CB, and it's a great way to write!

I hope that was an okay explanation... if you have any questions, feel free!

Personally, I think these terms aren't really fair, but they're kind of used. So I'll put them on.

Old CBer = a CBer who's been here for a while or is older. Considered to be more mature, less crazy.

In-betweener = a CBer who came on around Crowd-Sorcery or is more mature.

Newbie = a CBer who is younger, such as age 8 or 9 (I think. This is just my personal idea) or came on after or because of Crowd-Sorcery or mentions of CB in Cricket mag.

Actually, Air, we never use those anymore, because of the controversy they caused. Also, "Top", is what you say when you want a thread to go to the front page.

Sorry about that Cayke! I guess I haven't really been paying attention...

And oh my gosh I didn't put top? *headdesk*

WHAT?! OLD PEOPLE LESS CRAZY?! PREPOSTEROUS!!!!!!!!! When I'm an Old CBer, I'll be crazier than ever!!! AND MATURE?! ON CRICKET POSTS?! Don't make me laugh. Okay, SOME people get mature on Cricket, and SOME people get less crazy. BUT I WON'T BE MATURE!!!!!! OR LESS CRAZY!!!!!!! (At least on Cricket. I might be mature in my life, but not in Cricket!!!!) I'm just saying, I'm not the type to change my ways after a few years. I'll always have a certain.... craziness about me, I think. If people have to describe me in Cricket posts, they would think of a few words: CHINCHILLA!!!!!Craze. Harry Potter fan. And Muse reader!

Yes, and I want to say thank you!!!!!! Thank you for making this AWESOME-POSSUM site!!! It's awesome.

How to post an image (Now this thread is for CB tutorials as well as vocabulary! I think that's a great idea!):

1. Google 'image hosting site'. There is a site called postimage.  Click the link.

2. Click 'browse' where it says 'select files to upload.'

3. It will open your computer's files. Click the file you want! (This depends on what device you're using, so I can't explain too specifically.)

4. You can select a size, but you don't have to.

5. Click 'upload it!'

6. It will have your image on a page. Click it!

7. Now there should be a page with just your image, big and beautiful. XD

8. Open CB in another window (not tab, window) and the image in another.

9. Drag the image from the page into the 'body' section of the CB comment, where you type stuff.

10. It should appear there. Finish your message and hit 'submit', and hope for the best!

I feel like I'm overcomplicating this... :-/
