Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Rebuttals

Point 1: Crabbe and Goyle? Not smart. Not brave. Not schemers. They aren't smart enough for that.

Rebutting argument: The most probable reason that they were put in Slytherin was because their friend was in Slytherin so they asked for the House. Remember, the Sorting Hat takes your opinion into account.

Point 2: Most of the sytherins were loyal to Voldemort, and all had a mean streak in them somewhere (like Pansy Parkinson and Draco). even snape, who everyone thinks is good now, was super mean to harry for no reason but that he was a bitter jerk!!!

Rebutting argument: No, most of the Slytherins aren’t. Slughorn, Snape, Merlin, Regulus, Draco, and Narcissa are some characters that weren’t loyal to old Voldy. And there are people Sorted into Slytherin in real life! Me! Murphy Studebaker! Barack Obama! None of us are evil!

And not all Slytherins have a mean streak in them somewhere. Snape was mean to Harry to keep people from being suspicious. I don’t think that Obama has a mean streak. Or those Slytherin YouTubers. Or Scylla, who is part Slytherin!!!!! (And just happens to be judge.)

3 Slyhterin made all the worst ppl in the series! Voldemorrt, Umbrige, Snape, the Death Eaters, they were all slytherin!!!

Quirrel was in Ravenclaw. So were Lockhart and Marietta. And Wormtail was in Gryffindor!!!!!! So, no, not all the worst people were in Slytherin.

Zacharias Smith and Cormac McLaggen were both in Hufflepuff/

4 JK Rowling herself said that she intended for Slytherin to be the EVIL house in the book, and you can't argue with the author no matter what because Rowling wrote the books!!!\

People argue with the author all the time. Also, she never explicitly SAID OUTRIGHT that she wanted it to be the evil House.

So, Scylla, which rebuttals were good enough? Good enough to cancel out the points?

Other people can add their opinions, too.

I uh...

Would the most un-biased opinion be from that of a person who has never read HP?

Well. . . You are a bit biased. . . But I don't even care if I win or not.

I just want to create the first successful debate!

Mei, please stop. You already offended Brookeira by calling her biased, even though she did nothing biased... I feel that you're taking this debate thread thing too far.

I think being biased is a neutral thing. It is not good or bad; It just renders you unable to be a fair judge.

There seem to be too many arguing, unkind comments coming in here. We're considering deleting the whole Debate and Rebuttal thread. So please review further comments with that in mind before you submit them.

I uh . . . very well. If Mei wants to go through with this . . . I'll be the judge. *shifts awakwardly on feet*

If something wrong, you can blame it on me. Deep inside, I do have a slight itching for debates as well, especially when it comes to how/why people act or their personality.

I don't think anyone is 100% un-biased, but I'll be as un-baised as I can.

Point 1:  I REALLY need more info. I see that Crab and Goyle were in Slytherin, but what those the "not smart enough" have to do with it?

Point 2: Rebuttle to that was stronger.

Point 3: Rebuttle was weaker.

Point 4:  Rebuttle was stronger.

If you want, I can give reasons why I judged them these ways.

If this also continues, what do we do next? (if it goes overboard I will stop being the judge though.)

*Still need more info on Point 1

I am not in this debate, but I looked at it just now...*facepalms* PEOPLE this is up to TWO PAGES and already I have seen way too much hurt. This "successful" debate is so far not being very successful, in terms of how people are feeling. Take a moment everyone to calm down. Think before you post. And remember: this is just a debate about a fictional house. It is not the end of the world.

If you are having trouble calming down, if it's not working, if this is too much for you, then that is okay. Just politely say that you would prefer not to participate anymore, and bibbity bobbity boo it will be done.

If anyone should feel offended, it's me. But I'm not. Not. NOT.

And yes, thank you. If debating about a fictional House that you're not even in is somehow too much for you, then just quit!

I will not be on this debate thread anymore, bye...

I do agree that Brookeira did nothing wrong.

Bias can be a good thing! A parent should be biased for their child, becasue it shows they love them. A friend should be biased for her friends, because it shows she's a good friend. (Wow, redundancy much? XD)

Besides, this is fictional. If I, a Slytherin, am not too offended by these arguments, then I see no reason why a bunch of Ravenclaws should be.

'Kay, I'll start on the reasons why Slytherin is not evil.

There are tons and tons of videos and articles out there on why Slytherin's not evil.

Not all bullies were Slytherins. James Potter, the Gryffindor, was the bully to Severus Snape, the Slytherin, the victim.

All Houses have their stereotypes. Gryffindor for being show-offs, Ravenclaw for being nerdy, Hufflepuff for being losers, Slytherin for being evil. None of them are true, why should Slytherin be any different.

Regulus sacrificed himself against Voldemort. Snape received hate and mistrust from both sides and was lonely and secretive for most of his life. He endured pain, and eventually sacrificed, too. Slughorn may have been annoying, I'll admit that, but he fought the Death Eaters. Narcissa Malfoy risked her life by telling Voldemort that Harry was dead. Draco also betrayed Voldemort.

If Harry hadn't met Ron or Hagrid, then he wouldn't have known about Slytherin's evil reputation. Then he wouldn't have refused when that Sorting Hat tried to put him in Slytherin. And then the hero and good guy of our books would be in SLYTHERIN! And Harry is not evil!

I'm Slytherin. I wouldn't follow Voldemort.

I'll admit that most of Voldemort's followers were Slytherin, and that Hufflepuff turned out the least Dark Wizards. Rowling said so. But her wording--"Hufflepuff turned out the least Dark Wizards of all the Houses"--Makes me think that there were more than one. Pettigrew brought Voldemort back to life, and he was in Gryffindor. Quirrel tried to get the Sorcerer's Stone for Voldemort. . . And he was Ravenclaw! Look it up.

I am decidedly Gravenpufferin until I decide on a better hybrid name! My results from the four quizzes I just took are Gryffindor (Pottermore), Hufflepuff (The Almighty Guru), Slytherin (BuzzFeed), and Ravenclaw (Quotev). I trust Pottermore's the most, so I'm probably Gryffindor, but then another factor changes everything. I got the Horned Serpent for Ilvermorny, which is like the American Ravenclaw, so maybe I'm Gryffinclaw? The world never may know....

Is this thread going to be deleted?
