Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

White elephant game!

White elephant game!

So everyone who wants to play should make 4 posts:

1. A post describing the wrappings of an imaginary gift. Probably about 11 other people can sign up, but i will tell you when spots are full.

2. When I declare that spots are filled, we will choose the gift we want in the order we signed up (I will go first). If someone takes more than a day or two to claim a gift, you can skip their turn, and they can post as soon as possible.

3. When someone chooses your gift, reply to their post revealing what it is. Gifts can be something real (picturing, poem, etc.) or something virtual (a yacht, the moon, a barrel of pudding, etc.). Also reveal your identity.

4. A thank you note, obviously! That's only polite.

Rules:

1. Post under an alias, but don't guess who other players are! The exception: You can guess me. I think it's pretty obvious, I'm not even trying to disguise my writing style, but who knows...

2. Wrap your gift creatively!

3. Don't reveal your own identy until someone claims your gift! If the present you choose turns out to be a picturing, or something else that requires your CB identy, you can make an exception, or simply wait until your gift is claimed and everyone knows who you are.

4. Remember to post!

5. Have a very very merry Christmas!

My gift is about 3" by 6" by 2". It is wrapped in peacock feathers and golden ribbon (like, actual gold). Many have sought this gift, but whenever anyone other than me reaches out for it, the feathers unfold into wings and it flies just out of their reach... poor them.

Sorry! I choose Grandma's present, now.

@The Book Thief

The present is small, but the satiny yellow ribbon seems to glow in the light above and catches your eye. You pick it up, examining the package- it is wrapped in Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night, or at least paper that has its pattern. A tag on the side reads, To: Whoever chooses the gift, From: A Christmas Artist.

The box is heavier than you would expect. As you carefully tear off the wrapping paper, you see that it is made of some type of metal, probably tin. There is a small dent in the side. Struggling a bit to get the lid off, you finally open it.

Inside is a pen. But it isn't just any old pen.

The tool is sleek and black, so shiny that you can almost see your reflection. Accents of silver, and a perfectly pointed tip make it even more elegant. There is something on the end, though, that you don't understand. "What is this?" You wonder aloud.

Suddenly, the pen makes a whirring sound. There is a flash of light, and then, a band of color appears around the barrel. It is the exact same color of your eye! You realize that it must be a scanner of some sort, and that the pen must be able to scan anything and convert it into a color for the pen to write with. Now, if only you had some paper...

Fortunately, The Christmas Artist had thought ahead on this one. In the bottom of the tin box was a small notebook, with a floral-patterned cover. You look around, not able to decide on what color you will use first.

When you open the notebook, a folded up piece of sky-blue paper falls out. You open it up, and inside is a note from the person who gave you the gift.

"Dear CBer," You read aloud. "Sorry about the dent. I dropped it as I was wrapping the present- I'm such a clutz! Anyways, Happy Holidays, and I hope you enjoy your gift."

"Your friend, Bluebird.

Could I please have your gift, Book Thief?

Of course Cho!

You run over to the desk where your present is waiting. When you reach for the box, the wren jumps onto your shoulder, affectionatly pecking at your hair. You carefully untioe the golden ribbon, and instead of tearing the wrapping paper (which you relize actually died clothe) you gently pull it away from the gift, revealing a small wooden box, which you now know is big enough to contain one bowling ball. You remove the lid, and inside you see a golden egg, which you immediatly recognize to belong to a pheonix. You pick it up, and beneath it you see six slips of paper, each with a note scrawled hastily on it.

One written picturing

One drawn picturing

The pheonix eats mice. It will catch it's own daily.

The wren is not a captcha. His cage is under the desk.

Oh, the desk is yours too.

I hope you like your gift! ~Embers in the Ashes
