Just saying hello.

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Just saying hello.

Just saying hello.

To think, I'll be fifteen next month!

Basically, I've been doing a billion million things. I've been doing a lot of D&D (Dungeons & Dragons, for those of you who don't do tabletop RPGs), working at the gym (as in a job, not getting muscular. >.>), playing a ton of Skyrim and Knights of The Old Republic, and basically enjoying the real world. OH AND FINAL FANTASY! Ohmigandaaallfff do I love it so much. Rydia is my favorite character so far. I've played through the first two, and we're working through the third now. (Coco, me and me dad, that is.)

The paragraphs here have changed and it's messing me up so badly. ;.;

I've been dabbling in Japanese arts, language and culture with bonsai, dorodangos, and more Studio Ghibli. There are several different levels of thank you in Japan. Politest: Hontouni arigato gozaimasu/Domo arigato gosaimasu (don't pronounce the last u.)

Domo arigato/arigato gosaimasu

arigato

domo

Domo is super uber casual. :)

I like it here, but I feel like I'm still living in NC or WA, and it confuzzles me. I'm finally doing gymnastics again, too! So happy to be doing bars again.

We finished Harry Potter, too! It's kind of weird not having to worry about spoilers.

Disney has been annoying my Star Wars love to pieces, so much so that I almost love Marvel more. *cries at the thought* I'm neutral twoards TFA, loved R1, hate TLJ, neutral towards Solo (It was decent, anyways. Enfys Nest for the win.)

I lurved Black Panther to pieces, and we're going back and watching all the Marvel movies. Poor Sif, just always being friendzoned by Thor. She deserves someone awesome.

I might reply back to some comments over the next few days, and I will be coming to the Valentine's day reunion after all.

Wakanda Forever.

Are you in Japan now? Will you be staying there now?

Cho! Im so glad to finally meet you! I joined about the same time you kinda left...but anyway, welcome back and I'm so glad you decided to drop in for a bit. You seem to share a lot of my interests in tabletop RPs - I also love Skyrim. Have you played Morrowind?

I'll see you round.

PS. Are you in Japan?

*waveles to LilyPad*

I'm so glad that at least a few newer CBers remember me, I was kind of sad when I popped on and I saw very few people I used to know.

No, I've only played Skyrim. Me dad has most of the other games (the ones that spring to mind are Hammerfell, Morrowind, and Oblivion, but he has one or two more.) I've only made it to about halfway in most quest lines that I've done either times (long story short I got my own Xbox 360 and Skyrim, and stopped playing on my dad's, but saved to his hard drive, not the disc.) but I haven't finished Skyrim yet, so I have not stopped playing as Dovahkiin.

And yes, I am in Japan! The southern chain of islands to be more precise, also know as the Ryukyus. I'm living on the largest one in the chain, and can literally walk down to the ocean. I've always lived close to the ocean before, but this is definetely the closest I've been.

Have you played any other tabletop RPGs other than D&D? I've played Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, and Middle Earth Roleplay Game. I would not reccommend SWEoE to new GMs or players. It's got a weird dice system which is hard to intterpret on the fly.

Wow hi! Long time no see! That all sounds super fun, but the linguist in me has to ask - can you understand and speak to natives in the Ryukyus or do you need a translator? And is it true what I've heard about Ryukyuan languages being only distantly related to mainland Japanese tongues?

Fandom stuff - I'm glad you're getting into the Elder Scrolls, it's a great series. If you want to try some older stuff, Daggerfall and Arena were both made free for their 15th anniversaries, I think. There's also Elder Scrolls Online if you like MMORPGs. Oh, and why did you hate The Last Jedi? I thought they pulled that film off really well and it was a good end to his character arc.

I gotta go do boring things now like eat breakfast so I don't starve and all that, but I'm glad you popped in for a while!

Hey HAB!! I've missed you! *hugs for everyone* The thread totally exploded overnight. XD

So when it comes to language barriers: Many speak at least a little bit of English (as there are about tensome military bases across this island), coupled with my Japanese, we can usually figure most things out at resturants. There is a seperate Ryukyuan language, but it is rarely spoken in stores and whatnot to welcome visitors. It's used (I'm guessing) more commonly around family instead of as a regular thing, mostly because the economy is so based on tourism. I actually just started reading about how they diverged and developed into two different languages! Basically they have the exact same roots, but grew and developed in different ways, which uber interesting to see the different directions they went. I know nothing in the Ryukyuan dialect, much to my disappointment. :P

I'm adoring Skyrim to pieces, lol. And unfortunately, I have an extreme distaste for mmorpgs of any kind. I keep trying, but they just aren't my style. If they set up the next Elder Scrolls game to be a two player storyline, I would be on board with that.

I dislike The Last Jedi because of how they changed looks character (i.e, he gave up on his nephew, when he didn't for his father), and the way that they used the skipping back and forth between parts of the adventure. I believed that worked in Infinity War, but not so well in TLJ. :)

It's so cool that you're in Japan, that must be an amazing experience. I've played Pathfinder, which is fun, but I really wanna play the Middle Earth Roleplay Game.

My uncle (Cron for those of you who remember him) did Pathfinder, and I'd be open to doing that, but haven't found anyone else except for him who plays/has played. MERP is an older game, as it was around when me dad was a kid, so it would be harder to find, but it's got a nice, clear, linear dice system and fun critical tables, so if you could find it, that would be amazing.

@Admin, yes, I am in Japan, I will live there for two more years, and then come back to the states. My dad is in the military, but this is the first big move we've ever done, second in entirety.

What a wonderful experience for you and your family!

Yes, it's truly been amazing! The culture is very interesting, especially when you consider that we live in the Ryukyus, which consider themselves as not exactly Japanese nor yet Chinese. Just Ryukyuan. For example, back in the medieval era, in the mainland, a samurai sword would be displayed, whereas in the Ryukyus, a sanshin, (an instrument related to the lute) would be displayed.

The food on the whole is much healtheir than in the states, too, which has been enjoyable. We've tried to immerse ourselves in the culture as much as possible; even going so far to have had a fish that my dad caught as sushi!

My parents also have a friend from High School who moved to Japan afterwards, and has lived there since. He's been coming to visit, and that's been fun. Some time during mid-August we should be going to visit him and go to the Japanese Universal Studios! :3

That sounds so awesome! I've always wanted to go to Japan. Are you enjoying Knights of the Old Republic? (I never finished it, I'm currently working on the sequel.) Cool to have you back!

LOL the answer to that is at the moment, no. I have had a bit of a tummy bug, so it made me super queasy with the way it's zoomed out, unlike first person, which I am used to using in Skyrim. XP

I'm hoping I will, though. Coco stole my Xbox yesterday and played the heck out of it, so I can testify that she likes it. :)

Long time no see Cho! *waves* Its sounds like your settling into the routine of things. That's great! Oh yah. Right now your probably thinking "Who is this random person? Don't remember her." Well, I'm Tux (my real name is Grace) and I joined maybe... two? three? years ago. Do you remember Daisy? I think she left around the same time you did, and I was here longer than her. So that basically my timeline for everything lol
Now quiestion time!
Do you have pets?
What branch of the military is your dad in? (My Dad was a nurse for the military and he would sometimes bring me to where he worked and we'd hang out around the base thingy. It was fun)
What is your opinion on the Sokovia Accords?
Well, its awesome to see you again. Hope your time in Japan is great and you make lots of friends and have a great time!

Hey Tux!! I do remember you! And Daisy, because I know her irl. XD

Yes, I have a pet, a beautiful mutt with a black overcoat, and red-gold underfur, with golden eyebrows. His name is Hermes. ^.^ I used to have two chickens, but we had to give them up when we moved.

My dad is an EOD marine. :)

Ughhhh, tough one. I think I'd say no, I disagree with it. I see the logic behind creating it, but I think it's more likely to go wrong with the government interfering.
