Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Okay, I had

Okay, I had an idea for a thread that communicates in other languages! (But translates what each CBer meant in each post so the admin don’t have to worry. ;) ) (Oh, and tell what language you’ll be doing in caps.  Example:

RUSSIAN:  Zdravstvuyte! Kak dela? Hello! How are ya doin’?

~

Yay this will be fun! What do you think, Sherry?

CAPTCHAs have a language all of their own! (Too bad they don’t have that language in Google Translate!):)

LATIN: Dīce, amīcus, et intrā! (speak, friend, and enter!)

I'm learning ~academic Latin~ so I actually have no idea how to say hello or anything like that, haha. I'm also still in Latin 1 so I know nothing. Enjoy an LotR reference instead.

Hello in Latin is Salve.

Hey I know a little Latin too!

LATIN: Salve! Quid novi?

(Hello! What's new?)

(I had to Google translate "what's", is that cheating? If it is, sorry!)

I'm learning Latin as well! My teacher is an interesting one, so we learn a lot of conversation Latin, songs, and words that we'll actually use. Admins, yay, you're right-- salve is hello.

MORE LATIN: salve, St Owl! quomodo te habes? habesne canem? (Hello, St Owl! How are you feeling? Do you have a dog?)

Note: ancient Romans wrote in all caps, so I didn't really capitalize anything since they didn't particuarly distinguish. And the translations are what I mean. The literal translations are a little rough-- I think "quomodo te habes" is actually "what feeling do you have".

~Starseeker

I remember this from my first day of Latin class: Faber est quisque suae fortunae. It means: Each one is the architect of his own fortune. And: Omnen lapidem movere—to leave no stone unturned. And "You've got to learn it like hic, haec, hoc."

LATIN: Ars longa, vita brevit.

Anyone know any Swedish?? I'm not an expert and I only know a few words, but... *shrugs* It's still a fun language, cuz everything is pronounced how it's spelled unlike *cough cough* English.

Swedish: Hej! Jag mår bra! (Hello! I am well!)

Ooh, I love Swedish! I don’t know much, but I know a few words, and I know some Norwegian, which I’ve heard is really similar to Swedish. I’m hoping to learn more Swedish one of these days. I really love Sweden, and just Scandinavia in general.

Bonjour, mes amis! Est-ce que vous êtes bien?

I'm blanking on all my friendly conversation phrases right now, and I'm too lazy to go get my gigantic French binder, so I only hope that's proper grammar. It means (should mean) : "Hello, my friends! (Literally) Is it that you are well?"

Maybe I'll come back later after I do some French review.

Hazel says drou. Aww, she's trying to participate too! De rou? Of...street?
