Hello there! My

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Hello there! My

Hello there! My name is Madeleine, but that is a very long and complicated French-ish name, so y'all can call me the Origamist.

Yea, so now that the introduction is over, I'll spill some tea about myself. As you may have noted from my nickname, I like origami. I'm 10 years old and will turn 11 on April 21. I am a hardcore bibliophile and have read countless books throughout my lifetime, including the Harry Potter series and all of the books by Lemony Snicket. As you may notice throughout my lifetime on the Chatterbox, I'm extremely awkward.

I may or may not like BTS. *crickets*

Anyway, I have been going undercover on the Chatterbox for a while to get the feel of things, and I think it seems pretty cool, so here I am.

Sincerely,

the Origamist

Heyo! Nice to meet you, Origamist (Can I call you Ori? Mist??), and welcome to the CB! I'm Vy. :) There's a link to the Ultimate Guide floating around somewhere that is very helpful, which I'm sure someone will link eventually. I love Harry Potter and Lemony Snicket's books too! And origami! Though I haven't done it in quite some time. XD My favorite things to make were parrots. And hey, awkward peeps for the win. I consider myself one as well. ;)

Nice to meet you, Vy! You can call me Ori, that is wonderful. I have a specialty in making origami boxes, and I have never made a parrot before. I shall have to try and figure that out sometime.

The Chatterbox seems like an absolutely wonderful place, and I look forward to exploring more.

Hello and welcome to the CB, Origamist! Here is the link to the Ultimate Guide, as Vyolette promised.

I can also be quite awkward, but I love to make myself be less awkward by either

a) making a list;

b) just not saying anything;

or c) using the kind of lame expense that "I can't word right now."

:)

I have never been very good at origami, but I've always enjoyed folding paper up into little triangles that I can then fold and unfold and fiddle around with.

I could tell you more about myself, but I run the risk of rambling. So I'll just stop here. And please, if you have ANY questions about the CB, please ask us!

Hello there! I took one glance at the Ultimate Guide and was overwhelmed with information, I will have to take a closer look later xD Thank you for the tips.

I enjoy making origami boxes, especially Masu ones. They're the easiest to make, and I have way too many of them littered around my room.

I will ask questions as needed. Thank you for responding to my post!

Hey, Origamist! (As Vy asked, are you cool with nicknames?) Welcome to the CB! I really like your name, it’s rather pretty. I think you’ll find yourself in good company as a bibliophile and Potterhead, and there are a bunch of Snickett fans here as well. I’m not sure if anyone here is into BTS, but I definitely appreciate their dancing abilities. Like wow.

Onyx, my CAPTCHÆ (see the Ultimate Guide) says fnbw. I am so not a fanboy... Okay, maybe just a little. For some things.

Ello. Yes, I am cool with nicknames. Vyolette recommended (Vyolette, if you are not a girl, I am very sorry) that I could be called Ori, and so you can call me that. Thank you for the compliment about my name.

One of the main reasons I came here was for the books and writing and all that jazz, it'll be fun getting to know fellow bookworms. I did see (from my little adventures into the Chatterbox before I introduced myself) that there are no BTS fans on here, but that's perfectly fine.

I am a fangirl on the inside but I've gotten fairly good at hiding that xD

Thank you for the response.

Hi there, Origamist! I was going to ask about nicknames, since I like giving nicknames to people, but several people have asked, so I'll just wait for a reply. I used to be pretty into origami. I made a huge amount of dragons, as well as some butterflies, cats, and anything and everything else you can think of. If I remember, I'll post a picture of the amount of dragons I still have sitting in my room. And don't worry about being awkward-- you actualy seem rather eloquent to me, but a lot of people are awkward (including myself) and it's nothing to be ashamed of. BTS isn't exactly my thing music-wise, but I have a lot of respect for all the work they put in and holy heck their dancing??? i used to be a dancer and I just want to meet their choreographer and talk to them. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the CB! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or anyone else!

Hello there, Starseeker! As Vyolette helpfully recommended, you can call me Ori. I have attempted to make a dragon before, but I have never successfully finished. I have an accumulation of origami boxes, bookmarks, and butterflies strewn about my room. Perhaps someday there will be some dragons in the origami mess too.

I actually am not worried about being awkward, this seems like the kind of place that does not judge.

I just looked up who BTS's choreographer is (Google is amazing) and there was one article about a guy named Keone Madrid? Maybe he's their choreographer? Don't quote me xD

I am already enjoying the Chatterbox and I probably will for as long as I'm on it :)

Alright, Ori it is! As 'Starseeker' is such a mouthful, you're perfectly welcome to call me Star (which is what most people call me) or Seeker or pretty much anything else. I wasn't able to make a dragon either-- I tried for about 2 years to make one, without success-- until I met someone irl who was able to. I hope your efforts are rewarded! (Argh, that's such an awkwardly formal way to say good luck making a dragon.)

Yeah, you're right on that. :)

XD I'll do some research of my own as well! If the Almighty Google decides to cooperate... *grumbles*

I'm glad!

Welcome Origamist!

I'm afraid to say that I absolutely cannot do origami. I've tried and I can assure you that the outcome was not pretty. Do you have any tips?

Rather than origami (at which I am all thumbs) I enjoy photography, animals, nature, literature and creativity of other kinds (in which I am not all thumbs). I am currently trying to finish a novel before April, needing to do math and wanting to go read.

What genre of books do you enjoy?

Hi there, Silverwaxing!

Here are some tips that I have found helpful:

1. Make sure that your paper is a perfect square. You can do origami with some other shapes of paper, but most origami needs an exactly square piece of paper.

2. Crease your paper really well! Whenever a model doesn't work well for me, it's usually because I have some really weak creases.

3. If you get really stuck following a Youtube tutorial or diagram and have a bunch of folds you didn't mean to make, restart.

4. I generally find that using Youtube is easier than following a diagram because with a video you can see the paper being folded.

Those are all I can think of right now! If I think of any more, I'll post them for you.

I enjoy fantasy books most of the time, and sci-fi books can also be very entertaining. What are your favorite kinds?

Happy reading (and folding, if you're still interested in that)!
