CB Questions!

Have you ever had that one burning question you've always wanted to ask another CBer? Here's the place to ask (Admins included)!

I have a question for all of you, which is how many of you have been overseas and to where?

Also, @Soren Infinity, I saw in a Ski Lodge that you mentioned you were vegetarian. I had no idea and thought I was the only one *high fives*. Is anyone else here vego?

@everyone, does anyone learn an instrument? I'm learning guitar and also a little bit of piano and used to do traditional Korean drumming, which was so fun and taught me a lot about Korean culture. And on that note, does anyone learn another language?

Have fun!

~Coroline

I've been to England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, and Canada.

Ah, that sounds super cool! I’ll listen to as much as you want to tell me, actually, so feel free to keep going if you want to. XD

Okay! Here goes. I'm not entirely sure what you're going to get...

One of my pet peeves is fake Irish dancing. People just- hop and kick their legs out and are doing EVERYTHING WRONG. The most important things that they need to learn are the following:

a) Turn your feet out. Straight feet are not okay!

b) Cross your feet. No sidestepping.

c) Point your feet. Flexed toes are just ugly.

d) Keep your arms down!

e) Keep your legs straight. Unlike other types of dance, we want straight knees at all times.

With that done, I have a funny/annoying story to tell. So I was at camp, and there was a talent show, so I did Irish dance in the talent show. I had this iPod with dance music on it, and I gave it to the person running the sound and said 'Play this song.' Then I get up on stage and they start playing a different song in the playlist and I'm like 'please play the song I asked you to play!' And they do, and everything's fine, and yay. So then I go to pick up my iPod and the guy says 'Sorry, I played the jig because I thought you were going to dance a jig.' Okay, seriously? This is my second ID pet peeve.

We DON'T ALWAYS DANCE JIGS. There are many types of dances, based on the speed and rhythm of the music and the shoes we wear while dancing them, and they are not all jigs. There's reel and LIGHT JIG and SLIP JIG and SINGLE JIG and hornpipe and TREBLE JIG and then assorted sets that work differently. So even if you think jig, there are multiple types of jig that are VERY different from each other.

Wow, that turned into a rant. Sorry!

Ah, that sounds amazing! And wow, that would be annoying! XD Something similar to that happened to me and two of my friends once, actually. We were doing a dance/skit thingie in a talent show and the person playing the music played the wrong song. We all just stood on stage and looked at each other, like, ‘what do we do?’ And then we had to run off the stage and put the right song on ourselves. XD

Also—weird coincidence! We actually went to an Irish pub/restaurant for dinner (as you may have noticed, I’m just a lover of all things Irish x3), and they had live Irish music and dancing! I was so excited! And it was amazing to watch, I loved it. It looked so fun, too. I actually looked into Irish dancing near where I live a little bit. So who knows, maybe I’ll get to try it!

Sorry, this has sort of turned my own little ramble/unrelated-something.

ALL OF THIS.

More annoying things, because ranting is just way too fun:

*wearing a wig* "Oh, is that your real hair?" Like, no. I've met one dancer in my life who could've pulled off going without a wig, and our teacher STILL made her wear a wig. No one's hair here is real. Unless it's straight. Then it's 99.99999% probably real.

When people think tap/clogging is similar to Irish dance. Again, no. Not even close.

When people don't consider dance--really, ANY kind of dance--a sport. This is just a personal peeve of mine that I could rant about for hours, but I'll spare you guys the rant here.

OH. My gosh. I hate it when people don’t consider dance a sport, or think it’s easy and doesn’t take much work/strength. You have to be so strong to dance. I think I heard somewhere that prima ballerinas have to be as strong as football players. Man, I could rant about this forever too.

I went to Isreal when I was a baby, so I don't remember it. But I would love to see Glacier Park in Alaska and also go to Europe. I also really want to go to Hawaii! That would be awesome!
I used to play piano a lot. But I really hated it then so I stopped. I can still play it a bit, but not really XD.

I have been overseas, a few times! I've been to England (twice), Scotland, Ireland, and I went to a resort in Turks and Cacos, which doesn't really count. I'm going to Mexico in just a few weeks, which is exciting, and over the summer I'm going to Iceland and Norway! I can't wait.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I know a lot of people who are.

I am learning some instruments! I've been playing piano for roughly eight years, I believe, and I'll have played violin for two years come May. (I'm still very bad at it haha.)

Languages! I used to learn Spanish and I know very little of it. Right now I'm learning Latin in school and I'm really enjoying it.

I don't use Grammarly - I find any and all autocorrect functions incredibly annoying. I'll proofread my own stuff, thanks.

Oh my goodness, I love proofreading! Peer editing other people's work is one of my favorite things, and I tend to be somewhat of a "mean" editor because I write so much in the margins. xD I also love having my writing read over by other people, but they rarely give me good feedback because most people at school aren't as into writing as I am.

I don't take any real dance classes. I just started an Intro to Dance as a required enrichment this semester, but I'm really bad at it. xD I'm not a coordinated person and I don't know what my arms are doing half the time. Hopefully I'll get better with practice.

I have not taken the SAT - I don't have to worry about that for a few more years, thankfully.

Where would I want to travel? Honestly, I'm not sure; I used to say Ireland, but now I've been there. I'd have to go with either Egypt, Greece, or Rome! Their history and, in the former two's cases, mythology is so interesting and I'd love to see all of the ancient architecture there.

If I could meet anyone in the world, I proooobably wouldn't want to meet anyone because I'd panic and make a fool of myself haha. But maybe David Bowie. I've always regretted not being familiar with his music before he died. Even just going to one of his concerts would have been amazing.

And here's a question for you all: If you had to be famous because of one thing that you did, what would you want it to be?

1. I’ve spent a good part of my life overseas as when I was younger my Dad’s job brought us to live in Bolivia for 4 years and Uganda for 2 and a half. Because there are no direct flights between Uganda and the American airport we would fly into to visit family, I’ve also spent some time in Europe on multi-day layovers, mainly in London but also in Istanbul once. My family loves to travel off the beaten path, and after living overseas I made several friends from all over the world, who we’ve gone to visit a couple times even after moving, so I’ve also been to Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, Finland, Germany, the DR (when I was 2 or 3 and don’t remember well) and Canada. Does Canada count as overseas? There isn’t really a sea in the way of getting there, at least where I live.

2. I’ve played cello since 5th grade, so it’s been just over 5 years.

Does anyone else here like math? I’ve always found it very fun and people think I’m crazy for it.

If I could be famous for one thing I did, I'd like it to be writing a really good book (like JK Rowling).

I love math too, Riddler! I just hate math homework, because it's just repetitive problems that are really boring and time-wasting.

Inktail, yes, people who think dance isn't a sport! Agh! I will limit myself to ONE story about this, but so once I was chatting with my... cousin I think? And he says that dance isn't a sport because sports are pointless and dance is not. I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult!

And wigs! I showed this video of myself in full feis getup to my friends, and they say, "wow, your hair is so good!" And then I tell them it's a wig, and they're like, "Ohh..."

Or when I told them after my first Oireachtas that I placed 84 out of about 100, and then I say I'm really happy with my score, and they get sooo confused!

Ah, dance rants!

Leeli, I started Irish dance after seeing it in an Irish restaurant, so I hope that works out for you! Most dance schools will let you do a trial lesson to see if you like it before fully signing yourself up, so that might help you.

Question:

Does anyone else love tests? (Not standardized tests, but normal, low-stress tests in class)

I don't take dance classes but I do take musical theatre classes where we do a bit of dance. I really, really want to take tap, jazz, hip hop and so many more but there really aren't enough hours in a day unfortunately.

If I could go anywhere in the world it would be to Japan. I love everything Japanese and would really love to see all the sights. I wouldn't stay for long though as I would get much too homesick, there really is no place like home.

If I coud be famous for anything in the world I think it would be for finding a cure to some sort of disease. If I'm going to be famous I would want it to be for a good cause.

And lastly, yes I love math! Sometimes it's confusing but I have such a great sense of achievement when I complete a problem that it fires me up, especially since I'm not that great at it anyway.

@everyone, what do you want to be when you grow up? I know that this is a question some kids my age avoid, and I think it's okay to not want to decide what you want to be right now. But even if it isn't realistic, what is the greatest dream you want to persue in terms of a career?

Never been overseas. I haven't even been on a plane yet.

I don't do dance. I did when I was little, though.

Travel anywhere??? Um, I uh, um, um... HELP

The person has to be real and not fictional, right? Hmm... Chris Evans? XD

Don't use Grammerly, just spell check on my Google Docs.

@Ella Starburst, I am part dragon! No Steampunk in me, though that coul be very cool...

No SATs, just a sixth grader

Not a fan of math. Or Spanish. Or English. Or P.E. *coughs*

Heck, bo tests, please.

What do I want to be? A fictional author, a foster care mom (and regular mom too), maybe-librarian, and if I get real ambitious, a women's rights activist.

My question:

What kind of music is your favorite? I'm a fan of Alt. or Indie Rock. (Some of my favorite bands/artists include Imagine Dragons, Bastille, Ed Sheeran, Florence+ The Machine, and Of Monsters and Men.)

What do I want to be when I grow up? A scientist, an author, an editor, a teacher, a graphic designer, or a coder.

What music do I like? I honestly have no idea.

@Inktail, what level are you in ID? I gathered from your comment about dance-all-year-for-three-minutes that you are relatively high... I'm still in Prizewinner.
