Naming random things!

Naming random things!

Does anyone out there besides me name random things? Or am I just crazy? Anyway, I made one of these threads a while ago, so I'm rebooting it bc it's on like page 20 of CaC XD

Anyway, here are some of the random things I've named:

- My current bike is called the Ebin Hawk after a spaceship from a video game (though I changed the spelling to match the name of a friend of mine). My past bikes were Spirit and Ranger.

- I had a ukulele named Perversus (Latin for "squint"... long story). The case was named Subuculi (also a long story). My current ukulele is named Poi and the case is named Borealis.

- My iPad is named Kitty... I'm actually not entirely sure how that started...

- Our cars are The Blue Spirit (ATLA reference) and Scooby/Combat Boot/Vader/Darth Subaru/Ghost Dog (it's a black Subaru, we haven't exactly decided what to name it)

- My phone is named Ace.

- My water bottle is also named Ace. I can explain.

- My favorite fineliner pen is named Michiko.

- My laptop is named Anastasia Bray.

- My headphones are named Maya Sundaresh.

- Our laundry room is named Doctor Demagol's Waiting Room. The short version of the story is that it's from a comic.

- My pets are Casey, Sunny, and Cosmo, though I'm not entirely sure if that counts since everyone names pets.

Wow, that's a lot XD

Ah, yes, I do this. Mostly with my electronics. My phone is named Xylenie, my iPad is Paddy, and my MacBook Air is Aerie. The latter two are pretty straightforward, though Xylenie also has a story/meaning behind it (I’d be happy to explain if anyone’s curious). My Fitbit is unofficially named Fitz/Fitzy.

My black compound bow is Stormbreaker, and I just recently got a white one, which is as of yet unnamed. Suggestions welcome.

There was a time where my family named all of our kitchen appliances, but I don’t remember them. Except the espresso machines. My parents named the coffee grinder Rocky and the espresso maker Sylvia. The original Rocky and Sylvia are dead, but we now have Rocky and Sylvia the second (or maybe third).

We used to have a robo vacuum named Ace, but he died. And then we had a stick vac of the same brand who had a name but whose name escapes me.

I have a feeling there are more things I’ve named, but I can’t remember them. I should name things more often. I have several succulents currently in need of names. Oh, and then there’s my pets, of course, but I don’t think they count as ‘things’.

So, basically, my iPad and laptop both had names ending in ‘ie’ (or that sound, at least) and relating to what they were. My phone is an iPhone XR, so I went on the hunt for a name that started with x and ended in ie, which was quite a challenge. But eventually I stumbled upon the name Xylenie, which means something like ‘child of the forest’. And both my wallpapers are of forests, so it seemed to fit perfectly.

@Leeli, I didn't know you had a compound bow! Are you a hunter?

Yep! I don’t hunt, but last year I took an archery class (in which they used compound bows) and found out that I really like archery. So I got a bow so I could shoot at home. I took the same class this year and they have a little competition at the end of the course, in which I got third place in my division. I wasn’t too happy about it since I was hoping for at least second, but I ended up winning the raffle too, which is why I have the second bow now. I love shooting compound bows, but I’d also love to learn to shoot a recurve one day.

Do you shoot and/or hunt?

Yes! I do this a lot.

My bike is named Quinn, because it rhymes with the logo.

Our cars are named Ranger and Georgie.

I used to have a pen (it has since fallen apart) that was named Pen Pen.

We name all of our chickens (I can say the names if anyone wants to know).

My school chromebook last year was named Val.

My locker last year was named Vesuvius, but I called him Ves.

I call one of the lightbulb cover things on my ceiling fan Vyla.

I think that's about it, or at least what I can think of.

- I have a rubber chicken named Melvin! (long story that I would be happy to explain if anyone wanted)

- My water bottle is named Nathan, because that's the brand XD

- My flute is named Josephine

- My school chromebook is named Jenna

- Our car is named Earl (I named it randomly one day when I was bored)

- My lunchbox is named Phyllis after a character from a musical

- There's this one specific tile on the floor at my school that I named Claire (don't ask)

I don't actually do this that much, just a little. As in:

- My old car (which got totaled a few years ago) was named Edmund, after Edmund Pevensie

- I named my plant Audrey Three

- Also there's another plant in my house (that's really my mom's) and it's named Paul

On a related note, my friend named her phone Ivanka, and it's really funny to watch the reactions of random people around us who hear her talking to it and don't understand the context.

I don't really do this all the time, but there are some funny things.

-The neighbors' turkey is named Todd. (named by my sister and I without the neighbors' knowledge)

-There is a circular rock with two indents that look like eyes and his name is Kevin Bob.

-I named a fish I drew Craig.

Oh boy.

My pencil case is named Rajesh

I'm not explaining that.

The oldest stuffed animal I own is 12 years old and I named her Lammie.

My sister has two burp-cloths-turned-lovies (treasured stuffed animals/blankets) that she named Auh Auh(???).

When I was about five or six, I got a Cabbage Patch baby doll (did anyone have any of those?) but I coudn't pick a name so I called it Baby Doll.

I named my tiny neighbor's foam sword 'Molly Hooper' and knighted him with it.

So, my old scooter was named... Zeebar.

The story behind this was we have a pavillion (with some smooth cement that is great to ride a scooter on) not far away from our house, and for some inexplicable reason I thought the pavillion was called a 'zeebar'. One time I rode around my scooter there and decided to name it after the 'zeebar'. Later, the truth about the pavillion's name got told to me, but the scooter's name was still Zeebar.

I later got another scooter which I named Ace, but that nickname didn't last long.

My dogs are Oliver (who is sitting in my lap right now; his nickname is Ollie, which we use a lotttt more than Oliver), Yugi (from the Japanese tv show Yu-Gi-Oh; his nickname is Yuyu), and Culprit (He came from the shelter with the name and Mom doesn't like it but he has lived years with the name and she doesn't want to dramatically change it; his nickname is Cully).

Since we loved A Series of Unfortunate Events, we named our old dogs Klaus (who was a pug who really didn't act like the bookwoom smart Klaus in the book at all) and Violet (who acted more like a Sunny than a Violet).

So, I made a lot of comics when I was little, and I came up with some really dumb names. Like a girl is named Sis. Not a nickname, just the name Sis. But even dumber is the main character's name. He is a dog, and his name is Carve. Yes. Carve. I don't know where that name came from, I think I just started thinking of random things for the name of my character and somehow carve came first in my head. But silly names are nothing compared to the silly stories I had when I was little. I should probably make a thread about that sometime.

I love naming random things. It gives them so much personality.

My bike is named Queen Victoria.
My fountain pen is named Donut.
My pillow is named Valentina Terishkova.
My best friend is named Tortoise. (I don't know if that counts since she is a living human being.)
I also occasionally name my pencils.
