Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Old CBer checking

Old CBer checking in.
Hello all! My name is Corina, although I go by Coi these days (I think I may have gone by Cori at some point on here?) I was a CBer back in 2013ish. I was thinking about this place today and feeling nostalgic, so I thought I'd check in. It's been many years, but it's nice to know this place hasn't changed all that much. I think I checked in a few years ago, but since I really am moving on to new phases in my life right now (adulthood! college!) I thought I'd say hello for one last time.
This place was the beginning of a lot of things in my life, all those 7 years ago. I was 11 when I joined here, fresh and new to the internet and to writing, and now I'm 18 and a sophomore in college and getting some poems published in a few months. In 2013, another CBer (BHR, in case anyone else remembers the old times.) invited me to join NaNo, so I did and I eventually moved on to the community I found there. Of course, I've graduated from the YWP now, but I met some of the most important people in my life through the site (and so, through extension, through this site, since one led to another). It's so strange and wonderful looking back here and remembering who I was seven years ago. So much has changed, but I'm happy to report that although the world is confusing and scary right now, growing up isn't all bad. I'm so much happier now then I was then, and I owe some of that to this community and the ways it pushed me forward. The CBers were wonderful friends when I was here, and I'm sure the CBers today are just as lovely.
I miss being 11 and pulling up these forums as the autumn sun set outside, my hands lost in the sleeves of an oversized sweater. I miss the excitement when I checked back the next morning and saw one of my posts had gone through (hello again, admins! Thanks for dealing with all my preteen cringe). I miss being so young and this little corner of the world being part of my life.
I'm not planning on hanging around long since I'm a little old for this community, but please say hi. Tell me what's changed! Tell me what hasn't! What are the youth up to these days?

Corina, it's so good to hear from you again! Thank you for your kind words. It's gratifying to hear what Chatterbox has meant to you. We have a CB reunion each Valentine's Day, if you want to keep that in mind.
Best wishes for the years ahead,
Admin

Firstly, you might find the New Ultimate Guide useful, as it details a large amount of terminology and things that are happening that might be new for you. This one was made quite recently: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/443573. It (and the older one, linked in it) should give you some information about what's going on these days.

Regards, Starcat.

Oh, thank you so much. You all are a lot more organized than we were. Interesting to see the things that have been carried on. Thank you for sharing this with me!

Hi! I don't think I ever intersected with you. I'm Fidelity! I've been on here since I was 11 or 12 too. I've met so many great friends on here too! I'm not really sure how the CB was like in 2013, but I think there's less AE stuff and more current events recently. How are you publishing your poetry? I'd love to read some of your work!

Hello, it’s very nice to meet you! I’m glad to know its still a place to meet good friends.

That’s so interesting. I think I was around for the beginning of the AE stuff, or at least the early stages. I believe it was beginning to really become popular when I was less active.

I’ve been accepted to a local publication, which I would love to share except for location safety. Do you write poetry?

Wow, hi! You don't know me, I joined (counts on fingers) about 8 months ago. But it's super cool to see old CBers coming back. The last paragraph of this thread was quite poetic; I can see why you are getting some of your poems published.

So are you a freshman in college this year? That must be hard. I'm going into my eighth grade year which, not gonna lie, is kinda sad. Not as sad as being a senior must be, though. But we'll get through it soon, right? We're all in this together!

Anyway, as for the CB, I'm sure it's been through some bumps but now it's more enticing than ever. The Inkwell has been jam-packed these days, and there have been lots of new art projects on Pudding's Place.

Good to see you, Corina! Maybe you'll stick around awhile, maybe you won't, but it was nice of you to stop bye. Tootle loo!

Hello! Thank you so much, that’s really nice.

I’m actually a sophomore! I’ve made it through my first year already. I was homeschooled through high school and actually skipped 8th grade (so unfortunately can’t give you any advice with that one!) so I graduated when I was seventeen. It’s tough, but I really love what I’m studying (interior design) so it’s worth it. Yes we are! I’m confident you’ll get through it, and high school for me was better then middle school. If your schooling experience is anything like mine, you have a lot to look forward to.

I’m so glad to hear that!

Thank you for welcoming me back!

WoAh you're studying interior design?? Cooool! I love interior design, even though idk if I'm good at it or not, but I love watching HGTV and all their cool design stuff. So yeah it's pretty cool that your studying it.

Yes! It's a great thing to love. It's so cool that you're interested in it.

To the contrary of what most people think, most of interior design isn't all decorating. We learn everything from how to actually construct a house and things like plumbing, electric, and structural concerns to how to 3D model spaces and visualize them to the actual decoration and picking out paint colors. Surprisingly, interior designers have to be legally licensed to operate! We have to know all the building codes and make sure spaces are safe and comfortable for people to live and work in. It's a challenging field of study but I really love it.

Hi Corina! It's so cool to know what old CBers are up to, and congrats on getting poems published! I'm too young to remember you or BHR as CBers (I doubt many people do) but I do remember BHR came back to visit sometime in the past year.

Hello! Yes, that’s understandable. It was quite a long time ago.

Oh, that’s so lovely. I haven’t talked to BHR in a couple of years, and I always wondered how she was getting on. It’s always weird to be aware of friends you’ve lost contact with still moving around in the world and having influence, but also quite nice. I'm glad she's still around.

Nice to meet you, Corina! I'm just coming back after a couple-months off of the CB, and I'm on NaNoWriMo too! The YWP, of course, so I probably don't know you.

Don't start rambling--

--Niko I am speaking with a fellow human don't interrupt. Anyway, nice to meet you again Corina!

Nice to meet you too! Oh, that’s so great! I just graduated from the YWP last year, so if you are on the forums, you can find my graduation post. Many of my friends are still active, although many of them have also graduated/are graduating soon since we’re sort of an older generation of YWPers. Are you active in that community?

Hi! I joined last year, around December I think...? *digs through threads to find “I’m new” thread* January 25, 2020! I remember now... anyway, the reason I was writing this post to begin with is to 1) welcome you back, and 2) invite you to #Revive BaB, even if you’re not staying for very long. Also I have a question. Is it weird coming back to the CB after all these years and not knowing anyone? Ok, this is getting long and I gotta go eat breakfast. Welcome back!!

Hello!

1) thank you very much! 2) Oh, I’ll be sure to check it out.

As for your question, yes, it is! I think the CB used to be a lot smaller when I was active, so I knew just about everyone who posted quite well. I’m out of contact with most of them (although I do keep up with a few on social media and such), and it is strange coming back here and seeing our old haunt occupied by new souls. It’s like finding an old tree house you used to play in in the woods but other children are playing on it now. It’s not a bad feeling, though. I’m so glad that this space has evolved and grown and is being enjoyed by others. That happiness doesn’t exclude the weirdness, though, especially since the interface is the same and it looks the same.
