Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

I've been watching

I've been watching you. I know your every move- the way your face will at first contort into confusion when you read this, then slowly shift into understanding. Let's make a deal- we play a game. You win, then you're free to go. If you lose...well, let's just say that you don't want to lose.

You don't know me. But I know you. There's something that you have no control over- a mystery that is unsolvable.

This is not a ski lodge. This is a test of sorts. Do not try to bargain or negotiate. The terms are set.

Join before December 31st.

Someone is watching you.

Cricket is not normal.

You must complete the challenge.

Be warned- serious consequences await those who fail.

You cannot see them, but they have been watching us for quite a while now. I am afraid you all are next. -Lunar Pearl

Let's continue.

You walk through the door of your choosing. Except for peppermint. She falls through a trapdoor, not quite sure what she's done wrong. You come across a grassy field, with no more door in sight. There is a single tree, which you climb. Now you can see some baby birds, with no mother. You know that the mother is most likely gathering food. What do you do?

Let's see... I'll sit in the tree and wait until their mom comes back.

Leave the birds alone. If my scent gets on them, the mother won't take care of them anymore. Wait for a long time. If the mother bird doesn't come back within a few hours, I will try and find a way to care for the birds.

I agree with @Wreeboo on this one, leave them alone and wait for the mom.

I'll wait to see if the bird's mother comes back. Until then I'll probably want to climb in the tree and see if there's anything, like, weird on the field or something.

Slowly and quietly, trying not to disturb them, I inch back down the tree and rest at the base. If the mother bird smells my scent on them, she could abandon them, leaving them to die.

Don't touch the birds, but climb higher in the tree to see where I am.

I sit in the tree, far enough away from the baby birds that my scent won't be on them, but close enough that I can watch them.

I slowly and carefully climb to a different branch. I want to keep an eye on the birds, but I don't want to upset their mother when she comes back.

Oh no, I'm late, I'm so sorry--

~~

I explore a bit. Every book I've read and every show and movie I've seen have basically said the same thing- don't touch baby birds. I don't go too far from the tree, though, not wanting to get lost, and if something were to try to hurt the birds I would want to be able to protect them. Though, who am I kidding- what would I be able to do?
