You're standing in

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

You're standing in

You're standing in your bedroom. It's a small, shabby room with a pitched ceiling, peeling flowery wallpaper, and one very small window. On your dresser is an open book and a radio. There is a single exit to the WEST.

For the uninitiated, welcome to your first interactive fiction game! In an interactive ficton game, you navigate around and interact with your environment by typing text commands. For example, if the game tells you:

"A sugar bowl is sitting on the table in front of you."
you can type "examine sugar bowl" to take a closer look at it,
"open sugar bowl" to look inside or get ready to put something inside, and "take sugar bowl" or "pick up sugar bowl" to add it to the collection of material goods that your character is carrying around.

You move around the game by typing cardinal directions: "north" or "n" to move north, "west" or "w" to move west, "southeast" or "se" to move southeast, "up" or "u" to move upwards, "down" or "d" to move downwards, etc. In this game, available directions will be CAPITALIZED in the location description.

You can interact with other characters, too: talk to them, throw things at them, whatever.
Some other actions that you might find useful in an IF game (by no means a comprehensive list):
"inventory" or "i" - displays a list of items you are carrying
"look" or "l" - displays the description of your current location. Add a direction (ex: "look east") to get a clearer view of something.
"ask (someone) about (something)" - to talk to a character
"drop (something)" - the opposite of taking something
"give (something) to (someone)"
"call (a telephone number)"
"close (something)"
"lock (something)"
"unlock (something)"
"eat (something)"
"drink (something)"
"sit"
"stand"
"get off (something)"
"put (something) on/in (something)"
"enter (something)"
"exit (something)"
"climb (something)"
"pick (a lock)"
"smell (something)"
"taste (something)"
"listen to (something)"
"read (something)"
"search (something)"
"look under (something)"
"touch (something)"
"push (something)"
"pull (something)"
"jump"
"sing"
"attack (something)"

Multiple people are allowed to play this game simultaneously. In the event that multiple people post an action, the first comment will be the action obeyed.

Good luck. You will need it.

Pick up book.

(Also, did anyone else see this name and immediately think of Find Averno, or is it just me?)

You pick up the book.

(This is short, I know, but it's all I really can write. Type "read book" to read it.)

You read the book. This is what it says:

A Friend.

I'm sorry, Gamemaster, but we don't post code, even if you decipher it for us.
