YWP

The mods on ywp have recently discovered that we do not have an adult modding our classrooms, so most of them are deleted. We might not be able to go on ywp and have a classroom there if this continues.

zlso, I'm night.

Ah, I was just coming on to make a post about this! Yes, I actually had no idea that we were supposed to have an adult mod, and to be honest I'm pretty...mad? sad? dissapointed? Like I get that the mods' duty is to abide by child protection laws, but talking to you guys on NaNo was actually a decently big part of my social life in quarantine, as weird as that sounds, and it just got...cut off. Gone. I'm gonna miss it. :/

Thankfully we still have the CB tho! ^-^

@Morning, Feline Fantasy, & Majestic Mary- I hope we can still do MWW on here!

Yeah, it's sad. :( I am not sure any of us completely realized that these were the rules and that they wre serious ones.

As for MWW, I hope it gets to happen, too! It will probably look very different from our past format, but I wnat to try to still let it happen! I can make a thread for it.

To Cynthia: Alas, no. We can't allow outside websites—the YWP was an exception because we thought we had a knowledge of the Nano site that proved to be wrong.--admin

I also made a thread on this topic, which the Admins seem not to have posted, perhaps so there aren't duplicate threads, or perhaps because I said something problematic. I'm going to copy in what I wrote there so we can keep the discussion on one thread:

For those who don't know, the various CB classrooms on the NaNoWriMo YWP site have all been disabled by the NaNo mods. We believe this is because our classrooms were run by kids with educator accounts, and NaNo requires educators to be adults. This is for valid safety and security reasons, because educators have increased power and control.

In my opinion, however, this is a sign that we maybe should leave NaNo behind.

I'd like to hear what other people are thinking about this situation and so the conversation doesn't just disappear into thin air, leaving us all unsatisfied. Let's be mindful of what we post here, though, since the CB does have different restrictions than NaNo, and we don't want to stray into problematic territory.

@Admins, I noticed that not only was my thread not posted, but there are a number of comments on this thread that haven't shown up yet either. Is there a reason for that? Is this discussion problematic in any way?

We were just holding comments until our editors had time to be briefed on the situation and confer on what to post. Nano has made it clear to us that their policy is that educators must be education professionals (teachers or professors), and that codes are not allowed to be posted publicly.

Kitten, and others, we have been considering all the comments about Nano, and may post some of them, but no sooner than Monday.

This is just a random question, but how many admins are there? Just curious lol.

There are usually three of us who take turns posting during different times of the week. But only one on at a time.

Hello! To all who are having trouble accessing accounts or novels due to the shutdown, the moderator says to contact ywp@nanowrimo.org for technical support. She said it seemed to be a shutdown-related bug.

I noticed my comment was not posted, was there a reason for this?

So many people were posting about the YWP shutdown that the information we thought was most important was getting lost. We decided to approve only a few of the informational posts so that we could reply and make sure everyone saw. --admin
