IDENTITY CRISIS

IDENTITY CRISIS

IDENTITY CRISIS

Help.

There, I said it.

I need help.

i'm having an identity crisis, not about anything like pronouns, sexuality, or anything, but names.

my CB name is Echo, right?

But I just made another account for Bluebird. I've also been Starzzle (when I was so immature, lol), Jynx, and Echo Hallowswift. I wanted to be nymph, too.

so who am I?

just an immature teenager on the CB? does anyone really know me?

people look up to Periwinkle because of her awesome advice.

Jaybells and Kitty Cat because of art, and Reuby as well.

Darkvine because of her quirkiness.

Chaser + Jay because of their unique accounts and personalities.

Skuttles because, well, Skuttles is Skuttles. They're cool.

Writing, too, just because, well, Writing.

Tsuki. Her name, art skills, everything.

so who am I?

who am I really?

what does everyone know me for?

someone just wrote a poem that had my name in it, and it made me feel confident, so i decided to write this.

Yeah, I've noticed you since you were Starzzle. But it hasn't even been that long since then! While a few of the people you listed are newer CBers, a majority of them have been here for 1+ years, building an identity and getting to know people. I've been here for two and didn't even start giving my "awesome advice" (thanks for saying that, btw <333) until halfway through my first. So don't feel so much pressure, for one thing. Take your time! It takes time to build a presence here, but we are here to support you every step of the way.

It really helps to be yourself. I know that's something they tell you in every elementary school, but it's true! Don't put pressure on yourself to seem cool, or funny, or anything. That will come naturally (because you are cool and funny). Just be honest about what you like and who you are. Nobody's going to judge you. Everyone belongs here. You belong here.

I want you to stick around, because you seem like an interesting person. I do understand the name thing - I've debated changing my name a few times, but never found anything that much suited me - but maybe try and find one to stick to for a while. You don't have to keep it forever, and I'm not judging you for changing you name before, but it helps to pick something to stick to for a bit. Don't overthink it! I chose the name Periwinkle because - literally! - I liked how it sounded. And I liked the color. That's all there was to it. If you think Echo suits you, keep being Echo! But although our names are fun and unique, it's really about the person. Nobody's going to judge you if you call yourself Starzzle. Do what makes you happy. And if you want some name recommendations, let me know and I'll give you a few, but if you feel like one of the names you already use suits you, keep it!

The same goes for AEs, in my opinion. Some people like changing up their AEs, which is totally fine! Especially if they aren't characters you can relate to anymore, you should feel free to change them. However, I personally prefer to try and pick a few characters and stick to them, and let them grow with me naturally. I've seen you struggling with your AEs before, which is why I recommend this for you. Maybe make one or two to start, and develop them to be similar to a part of you personality and have relationships with other AEs and stuff while you get the hang of it. I can help you work on those, too, if you like - it's a fun challenge making AEs who are unique, relatable, and interesting. It's sure to get your creativity flowing.

Anyways, mostly what I'm saying is, slow down. You don't have to rush and try and make everyone know you right away. It takes time to get to know people and build an identity here. It takes time to learn who you are and where you fit in. But I will tell you that you belong here, and we want you here. So take your time. Be you - while we love Writing, Darkvine, Jaybells, and everyone else, we don't want you to be another version of them. We want you to be you. We want to know who Echo is. And it's okay if you're not sure who Echo is yet either. We'll help you figure it out. We've got you, and you've got this.

This post reminds me of me when I first joined the CB.  I wasn't really known for anything, hadn't been around long enough to, and it seemed like everyone was already so cool and knew each other so well.  But then I eventually started posting more, and learned that the more I said the more well-known I became.  What I've learned is that you gotta be involved.  The more you interact with people, the more they'll know about you, and eventually you'll probably be known for something.  I don't know exactly what I'm known for but I would assume it's my ~charm~.  Nah, kidding, it's probably the fact that I'm eccentric and have something of a split CB personality.  It takes time, but soldier on! Don't give up.

Awww, echo! Here's who you are: You're you! And here's what I know you for: You're one of my feircest competitors on Last to Post, and you're on the Eldritch Cats of Oblivion with me on the Capture the Flag thread, and you have an AE named Eryx who is awesome and is a makeup artist, and you make great art, and you're a participant in many ski lodges (maybe even more than me, if that's possible :0), and you love to curse in Spanish, and your CBsona used to be a witch, and you write beautiful poetry, and you crochet and play tennis (although I admit I learned those two things just today from the thread introducing Bluebird) and you were a participant in the Middle Earth Solo-Write, and you make great art, and you're funny, and witty, and cool, and great in so many ways, and that I'll write a billion poems (although ngl--my poetry's pretty bad. I'm not sure if you want it) with your name in them if it makes you feel better (and I'll do the same for any other CBer)! And that's just a fraction of the ways I know you and the interactions I've had with you!

No matter what name you're under or whether or not you feel noticed, know this:

We all love you! We notice you! We accept you! We look up to you! We want you to never-ever-ever leave (at least not until you're nice and ready and you've been with us a good long time more)! It's like I just said earlier today on the thread where the account Bluebird was introduced: as long as you're here, no matter what name you're under, we're so so SO glad you're with us!

Also, I'm glad you told us that you're Bluebird and that Bluebird is you! Even though we'll love you whether or not we know it's you, I like knowing who you are and that you're still with us!

Also, I'm happy to use whatever name you'd prefer on my Ski Lodge. I think on Last to Post you said you'd like it if I used Bluebird?

PS I'll let you in on a secret! You're not the only one with more than one account! I've got a second, considerably less active account.

PPS You know, I actually had a secret theory for a while that you and Writing were the same person. Whether or not you are, I'm so glad to know you both.

PPPS Also, I appreciate the flattery. My delight at being called cool isn't the point of this comment though--the point of this comment is to make it clear that You. Are. One. Of. Us. And that your sadness makes me sad, and that if you leave CB anytime soon I'll be sad.

PPPPS I've proofread this twice for spelling errors now, and I think it's good, so I'm gonna post it and hope that you see it soon and that it makes you feel happier in any way it can.

Awww Echo! I think about you every day (not in a weird way), I would do anything to be your friend IRL. I think your an amazing person, your AEs are so awesome! I love Eryx and Kam's ship.

I think you're truly great and if you decide to stay on here, I hope to have many more fun and perhaps funny interactions with you!

Of course I know you! Your the Echo who's AEs are so detailed and exciting. The Echo who has participated in my failing ski lodge! Your the Echo who's funny, creative, and a great person. Now we may never meet each other face to face, but you are my friend. And you all ways will be!

Well, we thank you for the lovely compliments, but that's not important. The important things here are these:

1) Like Scuttles said, we and all the CBers always accept and love you no matter what.

2) We can't tell you who you are! Neither can any of the other CBers! We can point out things we know and love about you (like for example that you hate heavy metal! We do too :D), but at the end of the day, who you are is for you to decide! And no matter what you decide about who you are, everybody on CB will still be your friend! Because no matter who you are, you will always be you, and you'll always be a good person!

3) Your name doesn't define you! You--and everyone on CB--is far more than just what they go by on CB, or even their real life name! A cool name is great, but there's no Name to End All Names. There's no such thing as a perfect name--the important thing is the person.

Also, you asked "I am just an immature teenager on CB?" Well, a lot of us on CB are immature teenagers. And there's nothing wrong about that! But there's no "just" about you, or about any of us! Being a teenager is difficult! It's a struggle every day, and we're all full of our own insecurities. To be honest, we didn't consider ourselves to be all that noticeable! We don't feel like we're all that active (and out of the two of us, Jay is much more active), and while we're sure everybody is aware we exist, we don't feel like anybody especially thinks of us when they start listing CBers. I'm pretty sure everyone feels that way--you, and us, and everybody on that list, and everybody not on that list! But it's impossible for anybody to be unnoticed on CB. We all see each other and we all care about each other. CB has become so much more than just where Cricket fans talk! CB is a support network! And for as long as we're around, we'll support you and everybody else!

Another thing you asked was "does anybody really know me?" In a sense, we're total strangers to you. You don't really know us and we don't really know you. But in another way, we absolutely know you! We show sides of ourselves to CB that we don't show to anybody else, even each other. I'm sure the same goes for all CBers, including you. We choose to believe in the second way. We all know each other, even if we've never met. And sure, you could say maybe we don't really know you. Maybe none of us really know any of each other. But that's not the important part. The important isn't how well we do or don't know you--the important part is that everyone on the CB is here for you when you need it (whether or not we're all 40-year-old men who sell garden gnomes in Kentucky and we're all just lying to each other and none of us really know each other).

Hehe, this was meant to be a short comment...

Alrighty, Jay (who is an IRL friend of mine) just texted me and said that you were having an identity crisis and that I should help him and Chaser convince you how much we all care about you.

I know that I'm not all that active, and you probably don't know me that well. So I'll be honest here: I don't know you all that well either. But everybody on CB is a friend to me, and I care about every CBer, including you. I certainly know who you are, and personally, I think you're a CBer a lot of us look up to. You've been on CB a while (at least longer than me!), and you're active, and if I was to try to make a list of every single CBer I could think on, you'd be one of the first to come to mind. I know you, even if I don't know you all that well.

Sure, I might not know as many things about you as Scuttles or any of the fairly active CBers, but from the comments of yours that I've read, I know that you're funny and nice, and most importantly, you're a person. And every person deserves love. CB can be a place that help gives that love. And as long as I'm on CB, no matter how active or inactive I am, I'll help supply that love for anyone who needs it. Including you. So no matter what you call yourself, who you are, or how much you think people know you, you should know that the CB will be here for you, and we don't care what your name is. We care about you. I'm probably copying the words of Periwinkle and Darkvine and Scuttles, who have already posted here, but that doesn't matter, because you can't hear this too many times. We care about you. There's a whole bunch of great names out there, but whichever one you choose, we care about you.

Wait, I had no idea you were Starzzle/Jynx! Sorry about the chat thread =/

You are most definitely a personality, Echo, and a prominent one! I mean, I've been here for two years and made much less of an impact than you. I don't know about anyone else, but I know you as creative and very bright & fun. I read your name and I see pastel yellow and blue, a spring riverside on a sunny day. However, I can't tell you who you are- that's something for people to figure out themselves.

P.S. Teenagers are supposed to be immature. That's why we're not called "mini adults." Enjoy it while it lasts! ;)

Hi Echo!

I definitely get how you’re feeling. A little while ago, I was also struggling with my personality/identity (um…not exactly true because I still am…) But I think this time is a time of discovery of who you are. Sometimes I think of myself as a hopelessly shy person who is quiet, antisocial, and awkward, but sometimes I think of myself as a more extroverted person who’s extremely random, lets her funny side show a tiddle, and is occasionally childish.

I’ve also changed names before. When I joined in March of last year, I was a super emotionless (I think?) person who used painfully proper grammar and wasn’t very expressive. Nobody really knew about me or responded to my posts.

And then I changed my CB name to Lyric (which btw, took ages to decide on) and gradually got more extroverted, started dominating Last to Post for a while, and in general ended up talking A LOT MORE.

But if you ask me if I’m more of Lyric or FerventWriter (my old CB name), I’ll just say that I believe I’m both.

At school I’m dead serious and sometimes more lighthearted. On the CB I think I’m a mixture of both Lyric and FerventWriter? (still figuring it out, although I don’t post under FerventWriter anymore) At home I’m probably 99% Lyric and 1% FerventWriter. But most of the time I’m just whoever I feel like being at the moment. If I’m more giggly, I’ll be like Lyric. If I feel more serious, I’ll be FerventWriter.

And so I want to say to you: You can be whoever you want to be in the moment. Be Starzzle. Be Echo. be Bluebird. Or you can choose one CB name that you like best, and be all the different personalities of your five names in one.

And as for your question: “what does everyone know me for?” I think you can be known for being you, Starzzle and Jynx and Echo and Nymph and Bluebird. There doesn’t have to be one particular thing that everyone knows is definitely you. You can be known for everything that makes you, you, just like I might be known in my irl life to be a writer + artist + +singer + musician + dancer + actor + shy person + chatty person + person who uses too fancy vocabulary + person who’s rly informal + I don’t know what else but there’s definitely more and I can’t think of it right now.

I really hope this helps resolve your identity crisis and that you can continue to discover yourself as a person. :D :D :D :D :D (and yes, that might be too many smiley faces...)

think of each person as a patchwork of identity scraps messily stitched together—you're not just one thing. why can't you be all of those? starzzle and jynx and echo halloswift and echo? why can't you still hold parts of those facets into your current self? remember cosmos and light blue and the ~s around your name. remember your exuberant all-caps posts and your blue-jay palisman and lyra and hawthorne and kate halloswift. remember it all. because I think you can be everyone—there's no limit. there's also no rush to define yourself. feeling like everyone around you is so much cooler isn't just you—everyone does it. I do it so much. what I'm trying to say is that you can be all you said, and more~

(also @Scuttles, :O I HAD THE WRITING THEOREY TOO—was it the :] for you as well??)

No, it was because they both often use "age 13, valhalla" as their age and location. I have no idea what the :] is but I think it's hilarious that we had the same theory for different reasons.

everyone's already given such great advice, but I'll add my bit - it's kinda normal to not know exactly who you are or who you want to be at this stage in life, so I'd say don't worry about it! Just share your thoughts and ideas without feeling too worried about your image :) The CB is a good place to present yourself in whatever light you like, for instance by giving yourself the appearance you've always wanted to have in real life. But the best thing about it isn't sharing what you're like, it's seeing what other people are like. Laughing at the jokes. Seeing what other people think about artificial intelligence. Reading the amazing poetry. No one here is judgmental or unfairly critical - it's one of the most accepting communities I've ever seen! Plus, over time, as we get to know everyone better, they start feeling like friends. As Peri said, it probably takes time, but it'll happen, and you can just be the person that feels most natural for you to be. And, like I said, the main thing is to have fun enjoying the CB!

I just want to say that your personality can be many different things! You don't have to confine yourself to one "facet" of yourself that you think other people want to see. I kind of think of everyone on the CB like one big family that looks out for each other, and as long as you're on the CB, you'll always be part of the family, no matter what name you use. Even older CBers who aren't technically still on the CB are still part of the family. And I'm sure you'll get to know people as you go along too. I've been here about a year and I don't know everyone either. And that's okay. Just be yourself and have fun! That's what the CB is all about. You obviously have people who care about you, judging from all the comments!

I'm honestly not sure when you joined, but I love seeing all your stuff on here! I've been here for 3+ years, so people (hopefully) recognize my art!! Trust me, you're a really fun person, and when I see your stuff and comments and threads I recognize your name! Just like many others, even if you don't have one thing that you're recognized by, you're still amazing remember that! <3
