Chatterbox: Crowd Sorcery

Crowd-Sorcery Contest

Crowd-Sorcery Contest

"The Girl Who Writes the Future"—Fred and Emily’s Crowd-Sorcery story—begins with the November/December issue of Cricket. Many, many thanks to Fred and Emily and to all Chatterboxers who contributed such fabulous ideas. We’re thrilled to have the story in Cricket! Fred has written a multi-part serial, so you’ll be able to enjoy the story for several issues. Part 1 introduces Fable Thatcher, who has her first dangerous encounter with Khaos.

This month's Cricket contest invites you to write your own story inspired by Crowd-Sorcery. We hope that everyone who has been dying to write about some of the characters and ideas you created will enter. Follow this link to the contest. Please make sure you read the rules! Your story is limited to 350 words because winners will appear in the magazine (and on the website). Entries need to be snail-mailed to us by November 25, and kids under 15 need to have a parent sign the story attesting that it is your own work and giving us permission to print it, if it is one of the winners.

We can’t wait to see what stories you write featuring characters from the Crowd-Sorcery site.

Is it alright if we use a character and then change them a little bit? Like if we use their name and talents but change their background?

Yes, that's fine. Artistic license. Or you can create your own character.

Hiii! I just got the mag and am super excited to write my story. I'm going to make up my own character! Maybe I'll be in the top! Who knows.... I loved the story "The Girl WhoWrites the Future," too.

Question– when will the winning stories appear in the magazine and website?

They've been posted for a few days now here:

How long would it take for a story to get from VT to Cricket?

Do you mean in the US mail? I'd say it should take no more than about 3 business days; however, from checking postmarks on the mail we received, sometimes mail takes over a week to get here. Envelopes with an odd shape or unusual size take longer (because they don't fit in the PO machines and have to be done by hand).

Email should arrive here in a flash . . . unless the systems are down.
