I think I noticed a thread on Geocaching a while ago so there must be at least a few geocachers on here that could answer this question.

I started geocaching recently. It's really fun BUT I don't entirely get the trinket thing. If you find a trinket, is it okay to just take it and switch it with something else? Or do you have to ask first?

I haven't ever geocashed myself, though I've considered it, and my dad has. I think you just switch it out. There's no one to ask anyway. The important thing is that you're sure to replace it.
