Chatterbox: Down to Earth

This may seem

This may seem weird, but are you ever doing something...and then you realize that you'd done it before--in a dream? Like you can barely grasp that thought; but then you have that feeling that you've done it before.

It always happens to me.

Like just now, I was trying to chop up mannicotti with the side of my fork, and I realized--just in a split second--that I was doing it before. In a...dream?

I've had that feeling a lot of times before, and I suspect it's something called Deja Vu. I don't know if you've heard of it or not, but basically it's having a feeling that you've done something before (usually recently). Usually it's something totally irrelevent, like chopping up manicotti (whatever that is) with the side of your fork, or putting your Battleship pegs in a certain order.

You have the feeling that it happened in a dream, but it never actually did. That happened to me three times on Friday, while watching a movie. Three scenes from the movie, I just knew I'd seen somewhere before, even though this was the first time I'd ever watched it.

That's the other thing. Deja Vu isn't really knowing you've done something before, it's doing something completely new and feeling like you've done it before, even though you haven't. It's very strange...

Or maybe it wasn't Deja Vu. Did you actually remember doing it in a dream or did you just have the feeling that you did it?

Manicotti are large pasta tubes intended to be stuffed (filled) then baked topped with a
traditional Italian sauce.

Deja vu is intriguing. There's lots about it you can read.
