The Incredible, Amazing,

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

The Incredible, Amazing,

The Incredible, Amazing, Awesome and Sometimes Humorous Guide to the Chatterbox! (to be read by new people or old-timers)

Welcome to the Chatterbox! We are a very friendly group of people. Some of us read Cricket, some of us don't. Whichever one is fine. We rarely talk about it anyway.

This Guide was created on February 20, 2009 as a useful resource for those new to the Chatterbox, those old-timers curious about what I have to say, and those who...well, I can't think of another circumstance now.

Read on...

The Rules For Being on the Chatterbox:

1. You must be prepared to be addicted.

2. You must be kind of weird.

3. You must know what smileys are. (if you don't, don't worry. I explain further on down.)

4. You must be open to the fact that you will disagree with some of the people on here.

5. You must enjoy yourself.

Who's On Here:

There are a lot of us Chatterboxers. I will resist the temptation to write a list for the benefit of not accidentally leaving anyone out. Suffice to say we’re all here, and we’ll all welcome you openly.

FAQ’s:

What is an FAQ?
Took me a while to figure it out too. An FAQ is a Frequently Asked Question. But you probably knew that already.

Why don’t some of you post certain stuff about yourself?
Some of us use psuedonyms instead of our real names and leave out or location and/or age.

What are these little thingies? :)
Ah, yes. Smileys. A favorite pastime of ours. Looking at them sideways you’ll see they look like smiley faces. But some of us, like Paige and Kimberly, like to invent our own. We go sort of wild with smileys. Here’s my favorite: :D

Well then, what are those yellow faces I see around here?
More smileys. Computer-generated.

How do you expand smileys?
Drag out the corners of it until it expands. Beware, though: this annoys some people.

How do you post on here?
On each section you’ll see something that says ‘Click here to talk about so-and-so.’ Click there and it should work.

What section should I post on?
Here is a complete list of all the sections:

This Month. Hardly anyone ever uses it, but basically you talk about Cricket issues on it.

Chirp at Cricket. Very few people use it to Chirp at Cricket. Most prefer to start random threads on it.

Blab about Books. Blab about Books, like the title says! What else would you do on it?

Down to Earth. Even randomer than Chirp at Cricket, but a lot of fun.

Pudding’s Place. Not my usual hangout, but it’s fun for a lot of people when they actually make posts on it. Talk about Arts on there.

Inkwell. One of my favorite spots! Share some of your work, make a Round-Robin Story, offer critiques, etc.

What shouldn’t I talk about?
Steer clear of talking about politics, creation vs. evolution, or whether or not global warming is real. Especially if you’re a Democrat who believes in global warming and doesn’t think that the world was created in seven days. That’s about it.

Who’s on here?
There are a lot of us Chatterboxers. I will resist the temptation to write a list for the benefit of not accidentally leaving anyone out. Suffice to say we’re all here, and we’ll all welcome you openly.

Why do my posts go to the end of the queue?
Computer glitches. Almost all new threads do.

I’m confused by some of these terms…
Ah yes. Let’s take a look.
1.    Admin. I’m not sure how to spell the full name so I usually shorten it to Admin. The Admin. Are the reason we can post safely. They’re great.
2.    Smiley buddy. Paige and Kimberly are smiley buddies, and I’m not exactly sure what that means, so ask them!

I can’t think of any more right now, but feel free to ask me any more questions!

What’s the point of all this?
To have fun. If you’re not having fun, then you don’t have to stick around.

Can you be serious?
Sarcasm aside. You are welcome here and we are all very nice people. We can’t wait for you to start posting.

Thank you, Lena. I was kind of confused. But not anymore. (About the Chatterbox, I mean.)

I know I commented here, but it's gone...  Let me try again....

1.  About "What Shouldn't I Talk About", don't talk about, ummm, how should I phrase it??  Romantic 8-year-olds?? Embarassed

2.  Admin stands for "Administrators."  You may also hear them called the GAPA (a term from the MuseBlog ((I'll explain)) ), which stands for Great And Powerful Administrators.

3.  What are these things '*'?  You use them to explain action.  Example:  *runs around*  *acts silly*  *eats seven chilly peppers*  *washes tongue with water*  *faints*

4.  What is NaNoWriMo?  National Novel Writing Month (I think?!).  Ask TNO for more info! :-D

5.  Laura's a smiley buddy, too! :D

6. Sarcasm?!  Oh, sure...  Right...  I won't be sarcastic... :-P

Another term, "Hot Pink Bunnies" may be confusing, so I'll retell a story that I could not find to copy and paste. It has something to do with Cat/Dog arguments on museblog. There were so many that they decided to replace anything about cats and dogs with a "Hot Pink Bunny". Some people love to ramble on about how they will take over the world and stuff like that.

Thanks Lena! I'm sure that's a great help to those with questions about cricket. I'd like to add, if you want to use something from a different website you've been on, and it's allowed on Cricket. However, Please do not talk about anything inappropriate. Nobody will appreciate it. If it gets through, which I doubt it will. I'm sorry, I'm... What's the word for it? I don't know. But I'll stop.

Cool, Lena!  How long did it take you to post that?  I disagree with you on one thing, though.  Why should you steer clear of talking about hot topics?  Debating is healthy!  It's good!  Ahhh!  :) I think that it should say instead "If you don't want to get all worked up about something for no reason other than to a have nice, healthy debate, steer clear of hot topics.":):):):):):):) I like that, you see! . . . ;D
