I sooooo want an iPod video.  Howevever I don't have 240-ish dollars to throw around. *sigh*  I was wondering are Zunes any better?  I was comparing them to iPods and they actually hold more stuff and are cheaper.  So why isn't anyone buying them?  Also I thought I'd like to mention the Kindle.  It is like an iPod for books.  It can hold like 200 books in the size of one paperback--AND there are over 180,000 titles you can purchase (I think).  It is a great idea and you can put your school textbooks on it.  There is only one model though and it's like 400 bucks.  So...yeah.

I have a Zune, and it works really well!!! I wasn't sure which one to ge, so I read like a 100 reviews, and most of them liked Zunes better, plus my brother has one, too. I think the main reason people buy iPods instead is that they work with iTunes. But Zune has a really cool software and a good marketplace. While you're looking into all the cool electronic stuff, try checking out the Fly pen by Leapfrog (for older kids). I want one so bad!

Did any of the reviews say approximately how long the Zune would last? When my mom bought an iPod for my sister last year, the salesperson was constantly saying, "Oh, no, it'll only last about two years, at the most. No no no, it won't last longer than that." Which wasn't exactly a great way to get us to buy one; and yet, we still did. My friend has a Zune, though, and I want one (music-obsessed as I am).

Disclaimer: I am prepared to argue endlessly if anyone says "I hate Macs". I am writing this on my Powerbook G4 running Leopard 10.5.5 with all software up to date and my dad has a MacBook Air and an iPhone 3G.

So, the Zune. First of all, it's a total ripoff. Of the iPod. Microsoft took the iPod and copied it. And made it worse: You have to buy music from the Zune store. Which stinks. No ripping from CD's. It's not compatible with iTunes and is Windows-only. Also, when you buy stuff from the Zune MarketPlace, you hand over five dollars of your money for Microsoft to hold onto until you use it all up, and to make it more confusing, each song costs 79 "points" but is actually 99 cents. So Microsoft wants to make you think stuff costs less. And very few games. The only good thing is it has Wi-Fi built in.

Amen! *is jealous of iPhone*

Powerbook G4? Wow, you're patient. I'd have chucked it years ago, kudos. It amuses me that you have a computer that old, and your dad has a MacBook Air. Big difference.

I'm writing on my year-old MacBook, also with Leopard 10.5.5, up-to-date. I've had it a year and I already want one of the sweet new ones, but no money. *begins to save*

Apple forever!

TNO, this is really random, but you know when we were laughing at my extremly old Macs?  I remembered that I have a Mac laptop that's even older.  It's about two inches high (with the top closed), and I remember that it's black-and-white.  My genuis brother and his friend decided to take it apart a few years ago and broke it... :(:( So now, I can't laugh at the cheesiness.  Oh well... :D:D:D

AHH!!!!!!!!  For some reason, my spellcheck isn't working!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!  Sorry if I spelled terribly!!!!!!!! :):):)

My brother has had his ||Zune for about three years and it works fine. MP3 players don't usually have an expiration date or anything like that,it just depends on how well they were made. Now, I have to reply to the other comments: Yeah, so they copied the i-pod. But I've used an i-pod and honestly I think zunes are a lot better. The over all look of the menu is much cleaner, and it's easier to get around. And anyway, I don't even use Zune marketplace, there are other ways to get music. Just because apple made i-pods first doesn't mean they're better. I-pods are so popular now, and the have such a small amount of competition, that apple doesn't even need to make them good for people to buy them! Plus, more people have Microsoft computer operation systems then Mac ones, and the i-pod doesn't work that well with windows.

1. the iPod works just fine with Windows, as does iTunes. In my experience anyway.

2. Zunes are better? What about what happened to all those Zune 30gb on Wednesday with the *snirk* leap year issue! *dies* Y2K, nine years late.

3. Just because Apple made iPods does not mean they are better, I agree. The iPod does, however, account for about 70% of the personal music player market. ;) That's a large number, dearie, surely it means something...?

4. I will admit I've never had the chance to properly play with a Zune but... Honestly... How is the iPod menu confusing? You have the main options... Music, Videos, Extras, Settings... And each of those lead to sensible submenus... When I had my nano I could navigate it blind and modify settings like brightness and, say, audiobook speed, without having to look and see what I was doing. And without accidentally shutting it off. 'Course, the iPod touch (which I got for Christmas, squee!) is harder to navigate, because, you know, it's a touch screen, so you can't get around by touch. But even so, I like the controls and the menu layout. I actually like it better than the iPod nano...

5. No, Apple wouldn't necessarily need to make them good, because the vast majority of people are idiots who buy the thing with the best ads. However, have you seen the prices? The iPods average about $300 minimum! People DON'T spend that much for a piece of junk. Apple gets away with those high prices because the iPod is a quality music/video player.
