Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Swine Flu

I posted this on the other swine flu thread, but I think that it's important that everyone is aware at how mild it really is. . .

Guess what, guys? I have swine flu. It is not deadly unless you have an underlying sickness. In fact, it is milder then a normal flu, but is not covered in the vaccination.

Everybody, wake up! People are acting like it's the boogeyman. Actually, at this moment most people who have a flu actually have H1N1. Really. But not all doctors are diagnosing them so, because  labs are only accepting official tests for people who are hospitalized, because otherwise the labs would be swamped. However, my doctor said, "yup, she has swine flu, but we're not putting it on national records. Almost no one is, unless they need to be hospitalized. I've seen about 30 people today with it." Then he told us what to do, which is basically TAKE EXTRA STRENGTH TYLENOL. If it were such a big deal, he'd put me on some real medication.

Honestly, I don't feel well, but just as cruddy as I would with any other flu, which I get a lot. So, everybody, chill! My doctor doesn't even have me on medication, because it will be better for my body, and I'll have a bigger immunity to it in the fall when everybody else gets it.

So just stop freaking out!

Calm down, Adina! I think I have it, too! It is actually really mild, in many cases.

In most all cases.

Not particularly terrifying. This whole swine flu scare is blown *way* out of proportion.

I hope you feel better soon.  :)  (Aren't you glad we all can't catch things from each other online?) I mean, if you are supposed to stay away from school, at least you've still got us to talk to!  :)

I'm not gonna die. Reuben (you said you had it, right), isn't gonna die. It's MILDER then other flus. Really. It's not a big deal. I was IMing some kids from my school, and one of them said that he couldn't believe that people from our town were "going to be on the news." It took me ages to convince him that nobody's going on the news, because it's MILDER. I feel like a broken record. More people die from normal. It's MILDER. It just has a different name, so it's being treated like the boogeyman.
