I had to

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I had to

I had to write a human rights poem for my Language Arts class so I decided to post it here.  If the Admins don't allow it, I totally understand why, and if I offend anyone, I didn't mean to.

Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Everyone has the right to

Find

And be in

Other countries as a political refugee

Without persecution or discrimination.

2009

The United Nations has a new way to fight against racism.

Great!

They will watch out for Xenophobia,

(That’s a fear of outsiders)

Intolerance of immigrants,

And hate crimes.

2010

Just one year later.

The United Kingdom.

(Or Great Britain, either one is fine)

They are thinking about abolishing a plan requiring

Immigrants to get a certificate of approval to marry.

There’s a chance it might not even get abolished.

Intolerance of immigrants

They are already under immigration control

Can’t they at least get some freedom within that?

Normal British citizens,

I’m sure

Don’t have to get a certificate of approval to marry someone.

Citizens who have immigrated

Do.

And I’m sure they’re wonderful people.

2012

Just three years later.

Myanmar.

(Or Burma, they are one in the same)

Buddhist extremists are killing and intimidating the Rohingya Muslim minority

And the UN is finally doing something about it.

Intolerance of Immigrants

In this country

Muslim is a minority.

They are already not a major group

Can’t the other group at least let them feel welcome?

Other groups  in this country,

I’m sure

Aren’t being killed because of their religion.

Immigrant Muslim minorities

Do,

And I’m sure they’re wonderful people

Hate Crimes

Intimidation acts

Genocide

Based on religion.

No one deserves to be killed because they are a minority.

No one deserves to have to be scared where they live because of their religion.

No one deserves to have to run from a place they thought was safe.

No one deserves that.

So why can’t the majority just let the minority live in peace?

2016

Just seven years later.

Great Britain.

Back at it again.

They are able to get out of breaking the 14th Article in the UDHR

By saying that any Gurkha soldier that hadn’t been part of the British army for four years

Had no right to settle there.

Intolerance of Immigrants

They are already part of the British Army.

And they are under another plan already!

Why can’t that be a sign that they should be able to live there?

British soldiers,

I’m sure

Don’t have to serve at least four years.

Gurkha soldiers

Do.

And I’m sure they’re very loyal.

And there it is.  Can I get some critique please?
