Chatterbox: Down to Earth

CBer Chat Thread

CBer Chat Thread

I was reading through some of the CB Confessions on the old thread, and I noticed people saying things that really resonated with me - that they didn’t connect with a lot of CBers, that they didn’t have close friends here, that they never had a chance to just chat.

And so I decided to make this thread.

The goal is for CBers to engage in lighthearted, not-just-to-advance-a-story, as-if-we’re-sitting-around-a-lunch-table chatting. It’s like an AE chat thread, but with CBers. That’s it. No rules, no nothing. (Although I will ask, on behalf of all the CBers out there that feel overlooked, that we try to reply to everyone, not just our “friends.”)

Cool! So, how’s everyone doing today? I’m feeling a bit bored, because it’s a weekend and I have no work to do, but that’s also kinda nice. How about you?

It's sunny here for the first time in weeks, and I'm about to take a walk outside, so I'm feeling good! This morning's sunrise made me realize how much I'd missed the sun!

Don't know where to ask this, I'm new here, but how do you start a new thread?

On the home page for any section of Chatterbox (Down to Earth, Pudding's Place, etc.) look for the box near the top left of the page that says, "Click here to talk about _____." Clicking there will bring you to a page on which you can create and submit a new thread.

Eeee.

So my school has poetry reciting competitions and i just got in the top 2 for my class for the third year in a row and it's got me thinking, because I really want to be an actress but I don't know if I'd be good at it. I mean I can recite poetry well, apparently, but that's slightly different from acting....

I only have a little acting experience in this Shakespeare thing that happened last year but I don't know if I did well or not because it was only in one or two scenes, and, well, it was Shakespeare. And now our drama director at school is starting up this improv acting club thing and I signed up for it but i'm nervous.

Okay, so actually I have done a little improv acting, but I don't know that that went well either - although my friend did say that I'm good at being a stressed mom. Which (belive it or not) IS reassuring but still....

And so now I'm just really nervous about the improv acting club because what if I never know what to say?! I'm not a very quick thinking person though I am creative. At least my friends are doing it with me.... but then to make it all worse, my CRUSH is also doing the club and every time I'm around him I get all, like, shaky and subtly-pretending-not-to-constantly-be-looking-at-him which is NOT going to help but I REALLY want to be in the club so AAAAHHHH.

Hi Cerinthe!

I'm not going to deny it, you definitely have a problem here. I think you made a good decision when you decided to sign up, but it might get a little awkward. If you ever get too nervous, try to imagine that you are, say, at home somewhere, practicing, and not in front of your crush and everybody else in the club, and take deep breaths, and just calm down. It sounds like you do have talent, you just get nervous. And, make sure you DO practice. It should help.

Hopefully that was helpfull. I'm really new here, but I kind of want to be like a therapist or a counciler when I grow up.

I totally get what you're going through, cerinthe, although I'm not into acting myself. Like, I used to get really nervous around my crush and my mind would just go blank, but thankfully now the crush is starting to fade away and I was able to actually get to know them. But right now what I'm nervous about is the fact that tomorrow I'm going to be playing the ukulele and singing in a recital at a cafe, and it'll be the first time I've ever played and sung in public, and I'm not even sure if I'm even any good at singing! So basically all day I've been constantly practicing because I'm TERRIFIED of forgetting everything while I'm on stage. Yikes.

Oh, you play ukelele? Cool! I'm not so good at dealing w/ feelings, probably 'cause mine are usually different than everyone else's, but here's my advice: just go for it! Who gives a smoke whatever anyone else thinks? I'm sure you'll do great. Good luck to you!! *thumbs ups*

Hello! I'm new here, and I keep hearing people mention AEs and CAPTCHAs, but I'm not sure what that means. Could somebody fill me in? Thanks so much!

WordSong

AE stands for Alter Ego (Latin for other I). On Catterbox t's a character created to show a different part of one's personality.

CAPTCHA is the name for the code you are asked to type before submitting a comment to Chatterbox. (I forget what the letters stand for.) People sometimes create a character with a name of a CAPTCHA they's been asked to type.

Update: the recital went... ok. I mean, I wasn't nearly as good as some of the the other people there, and I messed up once or twice, mostly because I was a nervous wreck by the time I got up there, but like... it was fine. I didn't die. I didn't mess up really bad. Anyway I definitely learned that performing is not my thing. I still like playing the ukulele though.

Good job anyway!!!!! Just remember, it's a start, and I'm sure in time you'll become a better performer.

Hi everybuggy!

I've been reading Cricket for many years but I've never been on chatterbox before. I have a question: If you could be teleported into any movie or book right now, what would it be? Mine would be Breakfast at Tiffany's so that I could meet Holly Golightly, but Harry Potter would be really fun too.

Sup, Charlotte! Welcome to CB. If you're staying a while, I'd consider making a introductory thread (I learned that the hard way heh heh) Also it doesn't have to be your actual name. Many people have an alias, but if you like your name that's fine too.

Answer to your question: Um...The Next Great Paulie Fink by Ali Something, bc the kids and school are so welcoming and fun.

Oh, I love that book so much and I would agree with you completely. Also because I love the idea of a tiny little town where everyone knows each other. You would understand if you saw where I live. A bunch of people, everywhere. Anyway, I love all of Ali's books, have you read The Thing About Jellyfish?

wait what the heck, my CAPTCHA, Ally, says xcamp and the autocorrect thingamajig said ax a killer......????

Welcome to the CB, Charlotte! I’d have to say Ranger’s Apprentice or The Giver, because those are some of my favorite books and I’ve always wished I could live there.
