Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Pets

I said that I would introduce my cats on my introductory thread but I didn't and nobody's going to see that anymore, so here's a thread for talking about cats (and other animals you are owned by, of course.) I probably should have made this thread earlier, but I haven't because it's pretty much starting a conversation and that is one of the things I go through life avoiding to the utmost degree. However, Amethyst Dreamchaser has been bugging me about it, so here it is! (I'll post about my cats and fish once it shows up)

Zipper is the oldest cat. She's 13, almost 14 (older than me). She's a calico, but her fur pattern is a little like a tortoiseshell and a calico mixed (calicos have more white.) She's the alpha cat, though Kitten could easily beat her if it came to a duel. Her favorite foods are tuna, beef jerkey (we don't feed her that, but she often raids the bag if we  get it), bread (to the point where you can hardly eat bread around her), Cheerios cereal, lunchmeats, and apparently turkey-cheese sandwiches, which are kind of sad when they're gluten and dairy free! (Joke!) However, she'll eat about anything. She really likes feathers and catnips. She sucks on the feathers and the catnip makes her lick everything and sometimes even play a little (which is rare! She's reeeeeeeeaaaally lazy.). We have a big blanket on the floor for her, which has a lot of toys on it, ranging from stuffies to rubber ducks to feathers to mouse toys to even a brown caterpillar cat toy! Despite being somewhat grumpy, she's very cuddly and comforting. She's also very fat. Zipper and Amethyst Dreamchaser are good friends; the two like to cuddle and lick each other. Taffy (I'll post about her next) and Zipper pretend that they're mother and daughter. (Zipper being the mother!) Okay, this is getting long, I'll stop.

Indium (also known as Taffy) is our youngest cat. She's almost three - she's turning 3 on Boys Day! (However, we're celebrating on Friday, because her birthday is also Boys Day.) She's miniscule because she had kittens when she was really young (we weren't owned by her yet, she's been spayed now) and that must have taken all her growing energy. She's incredibly social and loves everyone. She's also incredibly skittish; she's terrified of pretty much anything. Taffy escaped outside a few days ago, and the poor thing was terrified! We barely managed to get her in. Taffy's also a calico, and her eyes, ears, and whiskers are far too oversized. Her shape looks like a serval and sand cat combined. She has medium-long fur.

Kitten is our most introverted cat. She's fiesty and ferocious and gets in a lot of scrapes! The vet knows her far too well - she's one of his more interesting patients, because once she got a horrible gash on her side - it was REALLY bad - and has a tilted head because she has some ear disorder, along with being almost as tiny as Taffy. Most of her weight is fur and muscles, and most of her size is fur. She's short-furred but pretty fluffy. Oh, I need to mention two things: she's an outdoor cat (she often spends multiple days or even a week or more outside, which is not fun) and her coat pattern is a torbie - lavender cream, to be specific. (I like the lavender part because my favorite color is purple. Kitten's is pink.) Also, if you're wondering at my extreme lack of imagination whilst naming her (unusual for me) her true name is Catarina Daisy, because she has a cream smudge on her forehead that's very distinctive. I write a lot of stories about her, and recently started a comic strip about her.

I might post some pictures on here but I have to consider it because it's not very good.

We have pets! We have two dogs named Casey and Sunny, who are rescues, and a cat named Cosmo.

Sunny Dee (Sunny for short) is a goofy but incredibly smart Great Pyrenees. He knows a lot of tricks (though we didn't teach him all of them), but he'll only perform them when he wants to. He's about 7 years old. He's very sweet, though he tends to be a bit antisocial.

Casey is an anxious pit bull/Blackmouth Cur mix, who has been in at least three shelters. She was originally from Texas, so we think she might have been through a hurricane, since she is terrified of rain/storms and even cloudy weather will make her anxious sometimes. She's not as smart as Sunny, but she'll do anything for food. She loves cheese puffs and grilled chicken.

Cosmo is the third cat we've had in my lifetime (our first one, Sophia, died of old age, and we decided our second one, Natasha, was better suited to an outdoor life since she was basically insane, so we gave her to a friend of ours who lives on a farm). His full name is The Amazing Cosmic Spider-Cat, since that's the most powerful Spider-Man and Cosmo has a mark on his head that bears a striking resemblance to the Spider-Man logo. He's very sweet and sociable, but he's also a pig-- he's very fat and likes to steal food whenever he can. He's even gotten on top of a heated oven to steal cookies.

We also volunteer at the animal shelter, so we've met a lot of other animals, but these are the ones we ended up adopting (though it's been very hard not to get another one, in certain cases).

We have two cats, Darthy and Yoda, and I have two mice, Pepper and Catnip!

Darthy is about seven years old. We got her from a shelter when I think she was eight months old, or somewhere around that. I believe she'd been rescued from an animal hoarding situation, and had already cat kittens of her own (already separated from her when we adopted her). She's very small and completely black, including her paw pads, whiskers, and nose. One of her eyes has sort of a film over part of it. She had to have surgery on it soon after we got her, but it's still not fully corrected. Darthy is the sweetest little cat I've ever known. She's never bitten, hissed at, or purposefully scratched any human ever. She is very timid and shy, but quite affectionate once she warms up to you (which may never happen-she only likes certain members of the family). She is a lap cat, and will follow people around until they sit down so she can curl up on their lap. She's my favorite of any pet I've ever had.

Yoda is ten-year-old tuxedo cat. He is pretty big, and kind of fat. The things that motivate him are food, sleeping in cardboard boxes, and licking Scotch tape for some reason. He is goofy, social, and personality-packed. He will happily drool all over you if he's excited that you're giving him cuddles. He's pretty smart, and has come up with several strategies to get away with eating Darthy's food. He obviously knows that he's not supposed to. He kind of bullies Darthy sometimes, but then they'll sleep a couple inches apart from each other every afternoon.

Pepper and Catnip are both white with black patches. They're playful and fun to watch (especially for the cats-we have to be careful about that). It's absolutely adorable when they cuddle up together and sleep. They'll take food from my hand and let me hold them, but I'm not sure they enjoy it all that much. I'm still working on getting them used to me.

My family has also fostered a total of nine kittens in the past three or so years. They're always adorable and fun to play with.

Aww, I love mice! They're adorable! I've always wanted some, although I'd probably get rats instead. It's great that you foster! I've always wanted to.

I had a pet batta named Guilligan, but we just called him Gil. We got him last year, (or was it two years ago? I don't remember.), but one day, he went into his pirate ship, and he... Well, he died. I also had a cat named Felix but we called him Kitty-O. We had to put him down in 2017 or 2018 and I still miss him.

That's really sad, I'm sorry. Whenever I write something like this I worry someone's going to think I'm just making it up, so I'm telling you now: I'm really not. But this is getting lengthy. So I'll just say: I'm really sorry.
