Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Rant Thread

Rant Thread

>>This has been made before, I forget by who. I don't really remember whether of not it turned out well, so if not please ignore this!!! You can rant on Random Thoughts/Things, or a different thread, or wherever.

I'm going to try to explain this. Rant Thread, is well.. a thread for rants ._. If you're going through a hard time, or something about the world just really bugs you, talk about it here. You don't need to be ranting about heavy subjects. You can rant about how pencils drop and disappear into the third dimension, if you feel like it!

Try not to be too personal. Or say anything that the Admins might have to clean up. Try not to anyways.

You don't have to share everything or anything. You can comment a frowny face and kind CBers will already start virtually hugging you. :)

Keep arguments to an absolute minimum. No rudeness either, though I amn't very worried about that on such a wonderful place as the CB.

@Luminescence

I do not believe that I said people were wrong to believe differently, I believe I said I was sad about what they thought. I am sorry that you thought I was judging people on what they believe, thinking they're wrong for the things they believe.

The point of my little rant was to express how sad and upset I get when I think about how I think people have hardened their hearts concerning God, in whom I believe. I am not telling you that you should go believe in God because my ideas are right, and your ideas are wrong.

I am telling you this because I love you (not in like... a weird way ;).

~~~~~~~~
I hope this is Ok and that you don't find any of it offensive. That is not my intention. I hope we can enjoy a little chat about our different beliefs and maybe learn something new.
Concerned Person, while I respect your beliefs and know that many agree with you, I am not posting your quotes from the Bible, knowing that there are also many people who do not belileve in the Bible.
I'm glad that people on the CB have so many different beliefs and opinions, and that we generally respect each others' beliefs. Thank you for sharing yours.
Thank you also for not forcing other people into your beliefs, and for not judging those of us who believe differently.
However, I know that this wasn't your intention, but when you said that it makes you sad to see people who have different beliefs than you, I felt slightly attacked. It sounded to me (and again, I believe this wasn't your intention) like you thought that your beliefs were the best ones and the only good ones. It sounded to me like you were implying something about "you're missing out on this great experience of God/church/religion."
It makes me feel disrespected when other people imply that their religion is the only true one, that my beliefs aren't as good as theirs, or that I'm going to regret or be punished for believing what I do.
Again, I know this wasn't what you intended, but I wanted to share my feelings.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. I also hope we can have a nice chat about our beliefs.
(Also, @Admins, I do respect your decision and I understand your reasoning. However, as a person who doesn't "believe" in the Bible, I wouldn't have a problem with someone else posting quotes from the Bible. In my mind, it's similar to people posting quotes from a book that I disliked, beliefs that I don't have, or opinions I disagree with, none of which I have a problem with.)
I understand what you say about Bible quotes, Kitten. The Bible is a great work of literature. However, in this instance, I deemed the quotes selected too judgmental, and the point of the comment came across well without them.
First things out of the way, I completly agree with you, A Concerned Person, and I love every single CBer to the best of my ability <3
~~~~~~~~~

Now on to my rant, and this could get personal and/or start a lot more rants directed at me, but here goes anyways.

I think that masks aren’t completly needed.

Now before you get all wound up and start replying with hate comments, let me explain.

If the people who are sick or at risk would just stay home, then we’d all be just fine and we could function as normal. I know you’ll bring up the point that you can be carrying the disease and not even know for about two weeks, but if everyone had stayed home if they’re sick or even THINK they may be carrying it, then we wouldn’t need to be doing all of these things, some of them not even needed.

Besides, it’s basically been proven (correct me if I’m wrong) that masks barely do anything but give a sense of safety. A bunch of masks are either so thick no one can bear them or so thin they do nothing.

Here’s the predicament I’ve been in lately. If you wear a mask, all of the people also wearing masks think that you’re doing great and you’re following the rules. However, all of the people not wearing masks look at you and think that you’re afraid, or that you’re just goin along with it becuase you look better. However if you don’t wear a mask, the people wearing masks look at you funny and think that you’re breaking the rules. I try not to look down on anyone because of their choice of wearing/not wearing a mask, but it’s easy to assume these things.

In conclusion, I believe that if you’re sick, think you’re getting sick, or think you may be carrying the virus, please STAY AT HOME, and if you need to go out, WEAR A MASK. If you’re not sick and not afraid, then YOU DON’T HAVE TO FEEL PRESSURED TO WEAR A MASK. If it makes you feel more safe, great. If the place you’re gong requires masks, great. But if none of these variables apply, then you don’t NEED one.

~~~~~~~
I hope that gave my point fairly and I’m sorry for getting a bit riled up.
I believe in following the guidelines of health experts who say everyone should wear a mask whenever they go out. I am very concerned about people who have no symptoms but may have the virus. I think everyone should wear a mask. As my mother said to me many times from a very early age: "Better safe than sorry."
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.
(I'm also sorry because it seems every time I'm on this thread I'm just replying to someone else's comment! I promise to post an actual rant of my own at some point. ;))
In the interests of not writing another super long ranty response, I'm just going to respond to one of your points.
You said that "it’s basically been proven ... that masks barely do anything but give a sense of safety." Actually, it's been proven that masks do help prevent the spread of coronavirus. I don't know if there are any precise statistics, since it's hard to do studies right now, but I can assure you that it has been proven by multiple sources that wearing a mask is the most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of coronavirus. A mask blocks the droplets in your breath that spread the coronavirus, so if a COVID carrier is wearing a mask, even if they get close to someone, there's a very low chance of spreading the disease.
Even if you don't have any symptoms, and even if you don't think you've been exposed, WEAR A MASK!!!
I can get that, but for it to really do anything I think you have to get a really quality mask, unlike a lot that people are wearing. I’ve seen a lot (even most) employees at store wearing their masks only over their mouths, not even covering their nose, so they’re setting that example, people see it and wear their masks like that and then they do nothing. *:<* I’m sorry for getting all up and... rant-y I guess xD
You're right that the mask should cover both mouth and nose.
I agree with Kitten and the Admins. Masks are not even that hard to wear, and all the experts have been saying that they ARE very effective. And yes, there is such thing as having no symptoms and still carrying and passing on the disease. I don't mean to offend anyone who believes otherwise, I'm just stating what I believe to be true.
Also there are a lot of people (Me included, in fact) that can’t even really wear masks for more than 5 minutes at most. If I wear it, then it hurts my lungs and I can’t breathe.
I felt that way the first time, but now I've gotten used to it. People who really can't mask should stay away from others.
@A Concerned Person -
Hey, I know exactly how you feel. I feel like that just about every day these days. If you are on Nano YWP and want to talk, I would love to. I am there if you ever want to reach out to someone <3
One: Feminism
Men might get higher up in a company because it's impossible for a man to get pregnant and have to stay home indefinitely, but a woman can.
Two: America the "beautiful"
Three: "Hate Speech"
 Hate speech, in my personal experience, that gets censored, is Christians notifying about other Christians being martyred.
Four: Bible Verses
While there are many people that do not believe in the bible, I feel that does not mean they can't scroll down and avoid it like they do everywhere else in their lives. I believe the admins should post convincing or unconvincing arguments against popular, and in my opnion wrong, beliefs.
Five: "Noise Pollution"
Not as big of a deal, whether you believe noise pollution exists or not does not kill, but seriously, everyone that complains about it could move to somewhere where you know everybody and everybody knows you.
Six: "Light Pollution"
See Five.
Six and a half:
Raise your hand if you seriously want to go back to candles-or, worse, "Who wipes?" If you do...
Seven: Foresting
As far as I know nobody forests the 'cut everything down now and don't leave anything' way.
I could go on. I ran out of time but I'll be back later to see how much the Admins cencored.
Stay tuned for commentary on masks.
-The Chatterbox is designed to be a safe and inclusive place for youth where we respect people of all beliefs and discussions about differing ideas are done so with kindness and understanding. If a CBer disregards the Chatterbox guidelines and chooses to write disrepectfully, then yes, the Admins will keep censoring those entries and not allowing such hurtful words to be posted. Thanks. --Admin
Yes, I also find it annoying when people don't cover their noses with masks. I've even seen it with reporters on the news! It's irritating. It basically disregards the whole point of masks.
Also, on the same topic, I agree with other people that masks should be worn! And also: they're there to protect other people, not yourself. A tiny piece of paper or fabric is not going to help protect you from much short of flying gravel or something. But it stops your breath and germs from flying out and being breathed in by other people. It redirects your germs away from others. So be considerate! Protect everyone else who might be more susceptible to coronavirus!
Thank you for listening.
