Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Halloween.Wh

Halloween.

What are we going to do this year??? I was looking up some ideas, but it obviously won't be the same. We can share quarantine halloween ideas here, and costume ideas, and prettty much everything! I know you're thinking: Mistia, it's too early! Well, it's never too early to plan, and I'm hoping that this thread lasts until October.

Anyway, I'll start off with some Halloween facts for this year.

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, giving us the whole day to have spooky fun!

It will be a full moon on Halloween...

I'm going to be Link from The Legend of Zelda, one of my friends is going to be Toad (the Nintendo mushroom guy), and my other friend is going to be Mario. We tried to convince my other friends to also be Nintendo characters, but they insist on being Ghostbusters. They are absolutely OBSESSED with that movie XD

JJ says crygr. Cry grr? Hm.

I'm still going to be Link, but the friend who was being Mario is being a Ghostbuster and my friend being Toad is being a zombie police officer. Now I'm the only Nintendo character :(

I know earlier I said I was either going to be Toph or Azula, but I have officially decided that if we do have parties and trick-or-treating I'm gonna be Hilda from the LoZ game A Link Between Worlds.  That's gonna be a fun costume to make.  And if not this year, there's always next!

My dad says no trick-or-treating this year :( and next year I'll be in high school and then I'll be too old for it, I guess. Dressing up and getting candy was never my thing anyway, I mostly like doing it 'cause I get to walk around with my friends at night.

Whaa?? If you don't wanna, you don't have to, but I don't think 13's too old! I'm not saying this just because I'm 13, I really think you can TrickorTreat until you're an adult!!

Yeah, I guess not. Honestly it just depends on what my friends do, for me. And I meant that high school seems to old, I think plently of 13-year olds still trick-or-treat. My dad just said that since he thought the state would say not to do Halloween.

Look, it's never too early, especially right now when we can all use something to look forward to. I was thinking of going as She-Ra this year, since I binged (and loved) the reboot a few months ago, and I usually make my own costumes and I think it would be fun. Obviously, it's unclear if anyone will be going at all, especially since I'm in high school now, and I'm not sure if that's too old to be trick-or-treating :) Then again, I'm really short, so maybe I can pass for someone younger than I am...

Oh yes, She-Ra is so good!

We were also thinking about doing a family costume, and we could be Hamilton characters! My dad could be hamilton, my sister could be peggy, I could be eliza, and my mom could be angelica.

ooOOooh, halloween! Probably not going out and dressing up, because, you know, the pandemic. But I've gotten into a ton of witchy stuff, and Halloween is also a blue moon, which is really cool and I'm going to do a mega-cleanse and protection sigil thing!

For all those wondering if you're "too old" to go trick-or-treating, I trick-or-treated until I was about 12 (then my parents banned me from going). I know my friends went trick-or-treating last year, though, when they were around 15 or 16. I'd say that as long as you're in a good costume, you're not "too old"!

With that being said, there are other things to do besides trick-or-treating. There are block parties that you could organize, or maybe you could get together with some friends and have a proper Halloween party. (Course, if you're like me, your friends have a party but don't invite you... for 3 years... still holding out that someone will want me around this year.) ANYWAY! The point is, you don't have to go trick-or-treating to have fun. Last year I stayed in with my sister, passed out candy to the neighbor's little kids, and watched "scary" movies (because we both have zero tolerance for horror). We ended up having a lot of fun! :)

This year for Halloween, my sister and I were going to be Black Widow & her sister. But since the Black Widow movie never came out because of quarantine, that idea's tabled. Now I'm thinking about being Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family. I actually look a lot like her, and I have the shirt/skirt and boots. I'd just need a black wig and some tights, as well as some makeup, and bam! Wednesday Addams. I'm also tossing around being Meg from Hercules, because I made a costume for her this month for band camp (we do competitive spirit days and my section, the clarinets, was DETERMINED to win). So I already have a costume and a template for makeup/hair.

Trick or treating isn't happening in my town this year, so I was thinking about making some carmel apples, cupcakes, and pumpkin pie and spending the evening carving pumpkins and maybe watching a movie. Different from usual, but could be fun.

Last year I wrote a book for Halloween and now I'm writing a sequel, which has to be done by Halloween. I'll be finishing one by Halloween each year until the series is over. As usual, the characters are all cats. I'm also crocheting an orange scarecrow cat. Costumewise I'm thinking of a marbled cat because marbled cats, pardofelis marmorata, are now my favorite cat, some sort of candy from The Candymakers, or something having to do with a viola. I don't know how I'd make a costume of a candy or viola, though, so I'll probably be a marbled cat even though i'm more obsesed with The Candymakers now.
