Chatterbox: Down to Earth

-pt. 1: introduction

-pt. 1: introduction and explanation-

Hey friends! Leafy here. Gosh, I haven't been around in a while have I? I've been fairly inactive this whole spring and summer and then I have actually been on an intentional, albeit unannounced hiatus for a couple months. But I figured it's time I came back!

I haven't been around much for several reasons--I feel like I don't belong here as much anymore, not like I did when I was 10-13ish. There are several reasons why; most of my old friends are long gone (*cries*); I think I've grown out of the subject matter that is allowed on the CB a bit; I've found other things to take up my time, and more real life friends; and I honestly feel like the CB isn't very creative now and hasn't been for a long time.

Now of course I've stopped engaging with the community so much, so I'm not catching any creativity that goes around, but there's not really much to engage with. Most of what goes on here now, I feel like, is random chatting, and of course there's nothing wrong with that but the basis of this site is for readers of Cricket mag--writers, readers, imagination honestly and when I was younger I found this place to be such a nurturing hub of creativity + inspiration and I just don't get those vibes from here anymore.

Which isn't exactly fair of me because during when there was a lot of creativity around I didn't participate much, just rode along in the wake of amazing people like Abigail, Bluebird, September, Micearenice, Booksy Owly, and more and hoped that someday I could be as good at what I did--art, storywriting, poetry--as they were. But eventually I realized I needed to take a break from the CB and figure out and grow my own skills and creativity, so that's kind of what I was doing this spring and summer. But with that said, I'm back! I want to try to bring some creative spirit back here, just by personally being more active and trying to participate in this community more. Because I love this place, and it's been a saving grace for me over the years. And I want to help make sure that the same creative, welcoming atmosphere that this forum has can be available for other kids too, before I poof out of here entirely at some point.

-pt. 2: things I did while inactive/gone, in no particular order-

-Spent a lot of time on the NaNoWriMo forums, which made me appreciate how slow + safe the CB is, but it also made me appreciate Nano's huge community and support network and instant chat thing. (I also picked up some chat speak slang so be warned I may throw in an uwu or bro or bc/nvm/idk from time to time)

-FaceTimed Leeli

-Started 10th grade at a new school (it's all online currently, which stinks, but overall it's going okay)

-Realized that my hair is naturally curly/wavy and does ringlets when I leave it alone

-Became pretty good friends with + got a crush on a guy I know, and just a couple days ago we were trying to make plans to hang out and play video games but then some stuff happened and I found out he has a girlfriend that I didn't know about and that he didn't have a couple months ago and said girlfriend doesn't want us to hang out, so um, he kind of ditched me? It's really a pretty stupid situation and I'm kind of hurt but we're sort of working through it I guess

-Decided I 100% support Pride simply because I believe everyone deserves to live in a world where they can feel safe + respected + loved no matter what my own personal standpoint may be, if I even have one at all, and I'm really sorry that I used to act so nasty about this subject

-Improved my art some; my skills are still nowhere near I'd like them to be but I've definitely made some progress!

-Read a lot of books, if anyone wants recommendations let me know!

-Went out of my comfort zone a lot of times

-Learned guitar, somewhat

-Became more confident in myself and my appearance--I have bad days, like everyone, but overall a generally more positive outlook than I used to

-Expanded my music taste a LOT

-Snapped in Covid times and bleached a lot of my hair and dyed it bright green

-pt. 3: how are you guys?-

What's new with everyone? What have you all been up to, anything you've done recently that you're proud of? How have you been dealing with Coronavirus and all? If you don't know me, introduce yourself, I'd love to try to get to know you. And if you don't know me, I'm Leafy, I've been a CBer for almost 5 years now, and um...yeah that's about it haha.

I think this basically sums up my post so yeah, helloooo I'm back! Love y'all <333

Hi Leafy! You don't know me, I'm new(ish), but I'm Lupine. I "know" you from binging the Art Posting thread, and your style is awesome and I always wished you would come back so I could get a picturing from you (if that's possible then PLEASE, but if you don't have time then just ignore me heh). Anyways welcome back! It's cool to meet old CBers who I've only seen in old posts. OK I'm rambling let's just enter the captcha before this gets weird...

Ooookay, let's try this again.

I am Nightfall, an extremely new CBer who is already stressed out and pretty much considering leaving. I especially like to read, write and draw, though the things I do most right now are write and draw, as there are no good books to read anymore. How sad. One thing I got into is virtual escape rooms, I love those, so yeah.

So. I created a semi-leaving post, and it looks like most people don't want me to leave, so I might just be on hiatus for awhile. Sound better? Probably. But really, we need to learn to be nicer. And more patient with new CBers.

I'm one out of, what, five new CBers? And since I've already created a lot of stuff, maybe that's why everyone tends to shout down my ideas more. I really want to share them, though. Maybe it's best if they're kept secret.

I think I've seen you around a bit! I just wanna say I'm really really sorry that's happening to you, I totally agree that people can be a bit hurtful sometimes, everyone else always tries to get their opinions out there too and sometimes it can come off as a bit offensive or rude if taken the wrong way but I can promise you no one on the CB is trying to purposefully make you feel bad. Even if it doesn't seem that way, your ideas are valuable and I hope we can all be kinder to you in the future <333

You said there aren't any good books to read anymore? What kinds of genres do you like to read? Maybe I can give you some suggestions?

Hii! I don't know if you remember me. I joined early this year. But anyway, I'm Starchaser! I know I've seen your posts around, but it sounds like you were fading away around when I was becoming active.

Oof, starting a new school online doesn't sound fun. I'm all online too, which isn't great, but at least I already know literally all the people. (I'm in 8th grade.)

I'm so glad you decided to support Pride!! :) :) I completely agree with everything you said. I know sometimes it's hard to change your viewpoint, so it's awesome that you managed to do just that! :D

I'm doing pretty well! I hate quarantine & COVID, but by this point I've found ways to make it better, and there are bright spots. I'm super grateful that online school is much better now than it was in the spring, and we have mostly synchronous classes (over Meet), which is lots better than just slideshows and worksheets.

Oh, and the best part of my summer was I got guinea pigs! They're my first pet ever, and they're absolutely adorable. They've made having to stay at home sooooo much better.

Hi, I'm Peregrine.  I'm fairly new so you probably don't know me.  Though I know you a little from old posts and posts published in Cricket.

I really started to play violin a lot more when COVID started.  I've always been homeschooled, so other than my playing violin more (and everything going online) my life hasn't changed much.

It's great to have an old CBer back!  Read you around.

Hey there! Nice to meet you!! Yeah I started really trying to learn guitar when we had to start quarantining. I used to be homeschooled to but unfortunately Covid chose the time when I was actually starting at a school I thought I'd like to swoop in and make it very challenging haha.

Hey I'm back! Just wanted to post this painting I did a while back based on one of your poems on Bluebird's poetry thread. You're a great poet! Also, thanks for the book recommendations, I do like fantasy!

Hellooo! I've seen you around a bit and I'd love to get to know you better too! I posted a list of book recommendations as a reply to Azalea's post so you could check that out, if you're not interested in those genres maybe I can come up with some more stuff for you too!

Hey, Leafy! If you don't know me from here, you probably know me from NaNo, but here's a quick introduction anyways: I'm Luminescence, Lumi for short due to the face that "Luminescence" is TWELVE (!!) letters (what was I thinking?) and kinda hard to spell. I'm 11, but I'll be 12 in less than a week.

I joined in late April 2020, I think you made a Mega Anime Avatar Creator picturing for me.

I haven't been around long enough to notice less creativity... I think that the CB is kind of slowing down right now though, a lot of people are taking hiatuses for school and just to catch up with life. There are two active RPs (at least) on the Inkwell, but they are kind of dying so I need to post.

*runs off to go work on a post for the Hogwarts RP and the Forest RP*

Read you 'round!
