HAPPY HANUKKAH!!!

HAPPY HANUKKAH!!!

CHAG CHANUKAH SAMEACH (HAPPY HANUKKAH) LADIES AND LADS!!!

Now, I know Hanukkah technically doesn't start till evening today, but I couldn't wait!

I also know there aren't a lot of Jewish believers on the CB, so I decided this is where others can ask respectful things about the holiday!

So, to those few Jewish believers on the CB;

Do you rob your siblings (and/or parents and/or friends) of chocolate coins (Or actual cash) when playing dreidel? XD

Anyway, for those who don't know, Hanukkah starts today (December 10th), and it ends on next Friday (December 18th).

Ask or answer away!

I'm not religious, but I celebrate Christmas. It's a fun time every year and I hope your holiday is too!

Happy Hanukkah!! I'm not Jewish but I have a LOT of Jewish friends so there has been some intense games of dreidel at Hanukkah parties before. I always lose for some reason XD

Happy Hannukah everyone!! <3

I will admit, I don't know a lot about Hannukah but it sounds like such a cool celebration! I'm wondering, are there any special foods that you eat for Hannukah?

@Fidelity,

Off the top of my head:

• Latkes - They're basically fried potato pancakes, and are usually topped with sour cream or applesauce!

• Sufganiyot - Fried jelly doughnuts!

• Gelt - The chocolate coins you use for dreidel!

• Brisket - No one really knows why. It's just alway... there... *existential crisis intensifies*

• Kugel - It's a traditional Jewish noodle casserole dish that can be either sweet or savory, depending on the recipe!

Yum! I'm hungry. . .

LATKES ARE LITERALLY THE BEST FOOD IN EXISTENCE if you say you have latkes at your house I will be there in like ten minutes. Gelt is pretty awesome, too, especially because when you're playing dreidel with someone and they get distracted you can steal one from them and eat it really fast to throw them off. *clears throat* Not that I've ever done that before, of course...

I can just imagine that scenario as a horror movie;

The Latke Lover: No matter where you are, or what you do, you cannot escape the Latke Lover. Hide your potatos.

Happy Hanukkah! I'm not Jewish, but I have Jewish neighbors so I've been to a Hanukkah party before. It was a lot of fun. Have you ever played Dreiblades? It's a mix of Dreidel and Beyblades. We would spin all of our dreidels on a big plate and the last one spinning would win.

But anyway, that was only on the last day of Hanukkah - what happens on the other evenings of Hanukkah? I know you light the menorah and stuff, but what else?

Happy Chanukah!

Yesterday my sister and I tried to create Suvganiot and the dough exploded.

Don't trust cookbooks with suvganiot, that is what happens when you do.

Also Chag Chanukah Samech literaly means Holiday Chanukah Happy in Hebrew.

Chag = Holiday, Chanukah = Chanukah, Samech = Happy

It makes a lot more sence in Hebrew, but translating can be really funny.

My friend and I are trying and translate a bunch of songs Hebrew to English and vice versa.

Song(from Pipi Longstocking the Musical): Ha'kita Ha'kita offi offi la'mita

Literal Translation: The class, the class, go back, go back, to bed

Actual Meaning: Shut down school! Shut down school!

Ha'Kita = The Class, Offi = Go Back, La'Mita = To Bed

That got off topic fast

But anyway Happy Chanukah!

I think I should have a CAPCHA, for I keep on getting wierd letter combinations. Currently it is 'mywid' which sounds like 'my widow'.

Chag sameach! It is the second day of Hanukkah, because the Jewish calendar switches days at sundown.

Something that kind of bothers me about Hanukkah (I'm aloud to say this, I celebrate it --)

It's importance is really 0verrated. It's quite a minor holiday yet there is waaay more talk and stuff about it that people do than on other, more important holidays.

Nayce - miracle

Gadol - big

haya - happened

Po/sham - here/there

That's where the dreidle letters come from -- Nun, gimel, hey, and pey if you are in Israel, shin if you aren't.

I'm actually not great at Hebrew even though I have been learning it siince preschool, aval ani yoda'at yoter m'rov anashim -- sorry, heh, but I know more than most people. My Hebrew keyboard is upstairs, so . . . *shrugs* anyways my family likes to assign different nights for different things we do, but that is just our tradition. I tried to get there to be a condement night this year but it failed. *sniffs*

I googled what you said in Hebrew and it gave me a bunch of Baby Yoda links because of the yoda'at. Wow, Google. Just wow.

Out of curiosity, what other Jewish holidays are there that are more prominent than Hanukkah? I don't really know any others.
