Sunrise Park

Sunrise Park

The sun has not yet risen as you walk down Bell Avenue. The sun peaks up over the mountain in the distance and turn to look at it in all it's orange and pink beauty. Since you are gazing up at the rising sun, you fail to notice as an empty plastic bottle wizzes toward you on the wind. It smacks into the side of your head and you manage to grab it. You look around for a recycling bin to put it in, and when you do, you see an wall of hedges you've never noticed before. That's odd, because you pass this spot nearly every day. You think you must be imagining things because you are so tired and are about to turn and go when you notice an gate in the middle of the tall hedges. Something about the gate draws you towards it and you oblige. When you get closer, you notice that the words "Sunrise Park" are neatly engraved onto the sign. Looking past the gate, you see green grass and a fountain. "Hello," says a voice, startling you. You see a figure wearing a flowing green-blue dress. You didn't see her approach.

"Who are you?" you ask, unable to keep your voice from trembling.

"I am Aurora Seda," she responds, amber eyes twinkling, "The guaridian of Sunrise Park."

"What is this place?" you gesture to the lush park, "I've never seen it before."

"This is Sunrise Park. It appears only at sunrise to people who've never seen it before, although once you have entered it, you can access it whenever you'd please." Aurora Seda smiles at you. There is a silence for a few moments. A bird chirps to welcome the sun, which has risen higher in the sky. "Well?" asks Aurora Seda.

"Yes?" you question. "Well what?"

"Well, would you like to come in?" she says patiently. Her smile radiates a warm glow and you can't help but open the gate and step inside...

Welcome to Sunrise Park! I (Aurora Seda) will drop in from time to time, but other than that, enjoy! Again, thanks to Miss Plum for Daydream Cafe.

I pull the intricately welded gate open with a slight creak. The rust coating its surface makes me wonder how often this place is visited. The park isn't huge, but it's a perfectly good size, in my opinion. The ground is covered in lush green grass and wooden picnic tables are scattered along one side. A little river cuts through the park, murmuring softly. One corner is filled with a bright flower garden. Somehow, the flowers are blooming, despite the cold weather. I pause for a moment, taking it all in. I wish I had found this place sooner. I hesitate for a second, not sure where to go, but decide to visit the flower garden first.

I flutter in silently, floating upon the wind as a mere night sparrow. I dive down, and see a moth, as well as peppermint. I float down to peppermint and turn back into a human.

"Hi, pepper!" I say.

As I open the gates, I plan to only look around for a few minutes before leaving. The park sounds appealing, but I have a journey to make. My owl, Wanderer, is asleep on my shoulder. When I get inside the park, I'm absolutely enchanted. Everywhere I look, there are birds of all kinds, trees, rivers, flowers and lavender blooming. The smell of lemon floats around. I see a couple of other people, along with a moth. I wave to them and smile, thinking, "Maybe a few more minutes here wouldn't hurt..." Even Wanderer is suddenly not sleepy. Well, she's not sleepy enough to flutter lazily up onto the lowest branch of the nearest tree and fall asleep again. "Great," I say, "now I have an excuse to stay here!" I sit on a small, neat wooden bench and take out a book, admiring the sunrise.

I hum to myself as I amble in, Twiga (my two-foot-tall giraffe) following close on my heels. There are a surprising number of people here, what with it being so early and all. I turn back to thank Aurora, but she's disappeared. I blibk, then shrug. Twiga says <crimy> before going to a nearby rosebush to pick some leaves to eat. I watch her, a slight smile on my face.

I walk through the gate and instantly feel happy. Something about this place gives off a good mood. Windracer runs off to terrorize other people, and I have to tell 7506 to chase him. I sit down on a park bench, grab my thermos, and just enjoy the park.

"Oh hi, moon kitsune! It's pretty great- OOOH IS THAT A SAPPHIRE FOUNTAIN?!! SORRY BE RIGHT BACK!"

I excitedly flutter over to the sapphire fountain and begin marveling at it. It catches the light at just the right angle, it looks like it's completely made out of water! aaah! amazing!

i grin mischievously. seeing nightfalls love of the sapphire fountain, i do what kitsune do best, and trick mortals. i use some of my kitsune deception magic to create an illusion of a wonderful fountain, carved of pale blue quartz, with designs of demons and angels playing chess, and filled to the brim with with rainbow water, with tiny little red pandas swimming in it because, why not?

I tentatively push open the gate. It creaks gently, and a few people look my way. I duck my head, blushing from the sudden attention, and hurry to an empty wooden picnic table. I tuck my wings in self-conciously and pull my Kindle out of my bag. Before I start reading, however, I notice a huge oak tree in the center of the park. A smile lights up my face and I stuff my Kindle away, unfurling my wings in a blast of air. I swoop to a graceful landing on a thick, straight branch and scooch over until I fond the most comfortable spot, where I lean back and, once again, pull out my Kindle. The conversations around me fade into wordless chatter, until I shake myself out of my reverie. I check the time quickly. It's an hour later than when I first arrived, but the sky above the park was still a sherbet-pastel gradient of pinks and oranges. "Wow," I breathe, "it's like a perpetual sunrise!"
