Chatterbox: Down to Earth

CB Discovery

CB Discovery

Sooo, basically we can talk about how we found the Chatterbox here. I didn't really know what to do for the title hehe. Anyway, my story is a bit weird but here goes...

I have Cricket magazines from January 2015. Yeah, six years ago - I was six years old. I had never paid any attention to the URL at the bottom of the Letterbox. Soon after, I quit getting Cricket because it was a bit too grown-up for me, but I still get other magazines from Cricket Media. Well, in December 2020 I was looking through my old magazines and finally found the link. I checked it out and here I am. Has anybody else gotten magazines from around that time? Does anybody remember The Girl Who Writes the Future and Dragonfly's First Flight? I kinda miss those installment stories... I never did find out what happened to Fable Thatcher.

Heh... I have an.. interesting story. I'll tell the short version though.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, I've gotten Cricket since I was 6, which was... *calculates* 5 years, 2 months, and 14 days ago. I wondered, for literally 5 years, how some of the letters (which I didn't know were comments, and threads) in the Letterbox were in order, like were there people who sent letters and told each other about it, then sent letters in response? I had no idea why people called the Letterbox "the CB" and finally, when I turned 11, I figured it out, so I went to the link in the mag, and... yeah. Here I am XD
So, that is my shocking, exciting, CB origin story lol. The End.
...
*doesn't know how to end post*
*sits awkwardly*
*decides to just post*
*posts*
Well, I first found out about the Cricket magazine itself a few years ago when I found some old copies of the magazine that were my Mom's when she was my age. I read all of those and really enjoyed them, so my mom got me a subscription. It took a while for me to realize that the CB was a thing, but I checked it out on my tablet once I did. Unfortunately, my tablet wasn't letting me post anything, so I just kind of forgot about it. Then, a couple months ago, I noticed the tab for the CB was still open on my tablet, so I checked it out again. This time I figured out how to post, and it looked super cool, so I joined! I'm surprised that I never closed the tab for the CB, though. It was open for about a year.
I started getting Spider when I was seven, and I started getting Cricket when I turned nine. I'm twelve now, and still get Cricket :)
I was actually looking for the contests page on the cricketmagkids.com website, and I accidentally clicked on something that brought me to the Inkwell. This was around January last year, I think.
Then in March, the world as we knew it kind of... hmm, how to put this... ended seems a bit too extreme... oh, I know.
Then in March, the world as we knew it completely shut down.
To avoid insanity, in late April I made a post on the chatterbox. I started writing way more and the CB just encouraged my creativity. I didn't see a reason not to stay. I'm glad I did- I've made so many friends here, learned so much here, become a better person because of this place. Thanks, CBers.
So, I was looking through old magazines, and I found that I first got Cricket in 2014. That was kind of shocking because it's been like 7 years (maybe more like 6 because I think it was actually December, I got my subscription for Christmas). That would have been when I was 6, I think. (It's tok early for math). And yeah, it took me over half a decade to go to that website in the front of the magazine and actually figure out was the CB was. I'm glad I did, though!
Woah, I was looking through this again and it just registered: 2014! I honestly thought I had the oldest issues of Cricket... wow. I guess since it was December we're just a month apart but still - that's pretty cool.
I have some issues from the 1980s! --admin
I had gotten Cricket for a while, and I saw that it looked like everyone on the Chatterbox was having so much fun, so I decided to try it out one day when I was bored. I'm really happy I found the CB because it's one of the few thing keeping my sanity during quarantine.
I had seen the Chatterbox link in the corner of the Letterbox.  I couldn't figure out what it was and just assumed it was something like FaceBook, a waste of time.  I was also a little confused about the strange names, locations, and ages of some of the people in the Letterbox.  I went and assumed someone a long time ago in the begining days of Cricket had wanted to be anonymous and creative and started this whole strange name thing, and eventually it became a thing.  Like threatening the editiors of Muse unless their letters were published.
In the very early COVID days something made me want to check it out.  I think I was bored and wanted people to talk to and I figured if it was a waste of time then I would just leave.  I checked it out with my parents who gave me the okay and I started to post here.
I am so, so glad I came here.  And I thank the impulse that made me check it out.  It is most definitely not a waste of time and I love it here.  I'm not as active as I was in the early days of my joining but I still do come here.
It was great thing to do during lockdown and really inspired me to draw and write more.  I loved, and still do, to see everyone's thoughts and creations.  It always amazes me what we can come up with.
Thank you to everyone who makes the CB the wonderful place it is!
I actually . . . umm . . . kind of joined the CB before getting the magazine? See, my sister, Over the Rainbow, thought that I would love it so she helped me make my introductory post May last year. A few months later I decided to actually get the magazine and it was alright but not entirely my thing, although I somehow have gotten into the letterbox every time since . . . ? XD
But wOw am I glas I did join. This place, and y'all, are so amazing!
I've been getting Cricket for... three years? I'm not really sure. Anyway, my older sister joined the CB way back when I first got the mag. then this summer, she told me I should join, so I did and here I am. :D
I've been getting Cricket for three years now? Maybe four years? Anyway, I never really figured out that the CB was a place until I was bored and started to read the Letterbox of the November issue last year and I saw Quill's post there about how they had been on the CB for three years and it really helped them grow as a person. I also recall them saying something about how the CB had grown into a community and it wasn't just a website anymore. I remember thinking 'wow that CB place sounds kind of cool'. I followed the link and found myself here. I was considering whether I wanted to post an intro thread and join in (it all seemed very confusing to me at the time) when I found the Poetry Contest thread- the same one that's still alive right now over in PP. I saw the prompt, 'emotion', and right then and there I got out my notebook and wrote a poem based on the word 'emotion'. That poem was the first comment I ever added to a thread after finally making my intro thread, and I probably would have left the CB alone if it weren't for that inspiring Poetry Contest. I ended up winning first place with that poem a few days later, and that really encouraged me to stick around. Three months later, and I'm still here :P This is such a wonderful place, and special thanks to Quill for unintentionally leading me here! :)
Weeell, sometime in the summer I saw the Letterbox and tried joining. I only got to Kyngdom- where I barely posted, under the name of Stream. Then I left- because of school, I moved to a new school, what do you expect? It was a university and college and high school prep school, so harder than usual. Then sometime in August I joined again- and actually CLICKED ON DOWN TO EARTH FOR THE FIRST TIME!! I explored a bit and found Inkwell- that was my first 'home' on the CB. Then I moved to the other sections- though I will say, I've been kind of avoiding BaB because, well, it gives me major spoilers and yeahh. Now I'm most seen on PP...but you don't know it, do you? MWAHAHAHA. Anyways. So uh yeah. *waves*
Also, Sage, WOW. FROM 2015?!!!! I'm stunned.
Also if you're wondering what I'm doing, I'm trying to learn how to judo-flip people. (Yes I'm crazy. You're welcome. And smart-but-dumb-at-the-same-time. *smiles fakely and jumps off a cliff* byeeeeee)
For me, it was my sister's (WordSong) fault. At some point she must have seen the link in the magazine and decided to check it out and started posting. Then I looked over her shoulder once and it looked cool so I decided may as well look, and then I joined, and then she mostly left, and it's now been a year :) I technically don't get the magazine but I do read most of hers lol
