Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Junk Shop!

Junk Shop!

You are walking the streets of the strange and wonderful village known as Chatterbox (an odd name for a village, yes, but it's so wonderful, no one really cares.) Perhaps you pop into a cafe to buy some muffins. Maybe you glance into one of the many ski lodges, although you leave immediately, because they are not accepting of late visitors, plus someone is killing everyone else (most of the ski lodges aren't actually ski lodges, there are trains and summer camps and Diagon Alleys, but they're ski lodges too. The physics are too confusing, so you ignore it.) Each building is new and exciting, and you can't decide where you should plop down.

Then you see it. A new building, small and dilapidated despite its newness. For some reason, someone chose to build it in a way that makes it look ancient. Rather an odd choice, and that draws you in. You open the creaking wooden door, and are overwhelmed by the bounty of oddness. Bits and pieces of many odd things are scattered about haphazardly, and it's so crowded that you can almost miss the counter.

But there it is, an odd wood board with a cash register on it, and, behind, a girl. She looks about your age, maybe in her early teens, with bright yellow hair (most certainly not blonde, but yellow, like a flower) and eyes as black as the freshly shined shoes that sit beside her.

"Clothing is 50% off today," she says, seeing you looking at the shoes. "That includes shoewear and accessories. But forgive me, where are my manners? I am Jemalyntil of Teravillia, and this is my junk shop. None of the stuff here is junk, though, not really. They're just looking for the right person, the person who will see them as a treasure." The girl's voice is odd, sort of echoey and underwater sounding, and so cheerful you feel a bit overwhelmed.

Glancing around, you can see a list of prices, handwritten in a cramped scrawl with green ink on something that looks like a giant sunflower petal.

Clothing (including shoeware and accessories, not including jewelry) — 11 gadzooks each

Dishware and silverware —  2 lacklins for a set

Jewelry — 5 lacklins per piece

Books, notebooks, and writing utensils — 7 gadzooks each

Raw materials (such as fabric, sugar, wood, etc) — 5 gadzooks each

Other — Ask at counter

Additionally — We will buy from you, and offer fair trades as well. Please come to the counter to speak with Jemalyntil Anie Rose if you wish to sell something or trade rather than using the standard currency (1 gadzook is equal to a bit more than 1 American dollar, 10 gadzooks go into one lacklin, 5 clementines go into one gadzook, and 10 lacklins go into 1 jackyll.) We offer fresh discounts daily, check at the counter to learn more. Happy shopping.

"What an odd store," you mumble. But it is appealing, and it smells like violets. There are so many odd and wonderful things, and other CBers are entering. It doesn't seem like a terrible place to spend an afternoon.

"Hmm. Nice necklace. I don't have a sapphire necklace with diamonds yet." I say, checkin' my purse.

"You like that one?" Jemalyntil asks me.

"Yeah, actually. You see, I'm also a jewerly collector, and I'm still lookin' for a necklace that matches my tiara. And do you have gemstone clip-n earrings?" I ask, as someone walks through the door.

I walk through the door and spot Emekittycon Kitten checking out a necklace. "Hi!" I say to them. "That's a pretty cool necklace." I see a box full of writing utensils, from pen to a mechanical pencil to a quill. I pick up a quill. The feather is mostly white with gray and black spots. "I think I'll get this," I say to Jemalyntil.

She smiles. "Is that it?"

"For now. I might look around some more," I say, handing over seven gadzooks. Jemalntil takes the small bronze coins, and I pocket the quill.

Songbird is an OC. I need to develop her, and I would rather not tell you my name...

Songbird~

I step inside. I come from a land called the Distant Lands, or OCville. It's quite small.

Two other people are there, and I immediately see some things I want.

There's a chunk of wood- perfect for carving a flute. There's a solid block of gold, even though it's a little tiny. I doubt I have enough money to pay for that-A perfect red feather quill! OH MY GODS- YES! I make my way quickly to the jewelry section, accidently knocking down a box, which I immediately right, and walk towards the necklace section.

It's beautiful.

I slip it onto my fingers, and admire it. It's a little bit rusty, but it's pretty good. A golden locket. All I need is to customize it. I have enough brushes and paint at home, and I have some in my pocket right now.

I walk over to the counter.

"Hi, I'd like to buy this necklace, 5 lacklins, right?"

"Yes, would you like to purchase anything else?"

"No, not as of now..I'll stick around and paint the locket, perhaps."

I count 5 lacklins from my pouch, and push them onto the counter, then think about it, and push on another gadzook.

"Keep the change."

I step over to the sunny window, where there's a lounge. I perch on a wooden stool, take out my paints and my brush, and start painting the locket with a songbird.
