Debating Thread!

Yeah, probably no one knows who I really am. If you do, don't say. Anyways, this is a thread for Debating! I'll let you guys do the rest! I have actually seen something that could be debated!

The word SUS. Some people find it annoying, some people don't. Debate that if you want. I will never take a side of that.

OH MY GOSH SUS

Okay.  I love debating.  Here I go.

Sus is SO annoying.  First of all, it's an abbreviation, so it reminds me of "OMG" or "BTW" and makes whoever say it sound like a stereotypical annoying teen- or an adult who says it to sound more like and therefore patronize a teen.

Second of all, it's an "Among Us" thing.  "Among Us" is a fad.  Which makes me predisposed to hate it, since a.) if it's a stupid thing, people who don't like it are considered stupid and b.) if it's something somebody likes and it becomes a fad, they'll look like someone who feels the need to keep up with the fads, and then after it has passed, they'll look "dated" or like a wannabe popular person.  If it's something special to someone, it'll be cheapened and look like something only used for popularity points.

That said, I've never played Among Us, so I don't know if I'd like the game or not.  But "sus" is SO ANNOYING. Everyone's always saying "sussy baka," and that's like the ULTIMATE in "fad speech," if you will.  A combination of Among Us and anime, the two most popular things right now.  (And I like anime, which makes it even more annoying it's trending right now.  PLUS all the especially popular anime are.... well...... I've learned not to google them.) And it.  Ticks.  ME.  OFF.

Anyway!  Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I am not the best at this, but I’ll try. Sus is annoying to some people. I do not see why. There are other shortcuts. Are they annoying? You complain about sus, but forget the other shortcuts. Sus is a shortened Suspicious. If you had five seconds left to type it, would you spend the time to write the full word? No! You would use the shortcut to ensure your time. Then people would see it before your time runs out. Sure, there are other ways to ensure your time. But saying “they are sus” is shorter than saying “they are suspicious.” It is a good time saver. If people say sus for no reason over and over again, I could see that. Or if they kept claiming someone was suspicious. But if they use it to ensure time, why is it annoying? Sure, it’s said only in Among Us, but if it is, then you don’t have to see it if you don’t play among us. If you are a “stereotypical annoying teen,” what’s wrong with saying it?

That was my best try! Just want to see how good I actually am.

I can see your point.  HOWEVER.  Saying "they are suspicious" isn't... really natural.  People only say "they are sus" because it's a fad, not because they want to say "they are suspicious."

Usually, though, when I've heard people say sus it is over and over again for no reason, which is part of why it annoys me so much.  And it's not only said in Among Us; it started in Among Us and now people say it all the time which is what's ALSO annoying about it.

If it was just text, it wouldn't get on my nerves as much.  But people say it out loud.  And yes, other shortcuts are annoying.  If someone says "OMG" out loud rather than just text, it really bugs me.  And as for the stereotypical annoying teen thing, do you really want to be seen as the cell phone weilding, #OMG, brainless teenagers the media portrays us as?

The "sus" debate definitely isn't over.  But when it is, I vote we do whether the unofficial team Iron Man or Captain America was right in Civil War.

I do not think everyone just says SUS just because. Sure, there are some people, but I believe a lot of people do not. I use it to save time. However, I do say it a lot in among us because it is easier to say. I only say it outside of among us when talking about among us.

People don't say it a lot around me except when talking about Among Us. They probably do say it a lot around you.

That's all I have for now! Am I a good debater?

OBVIOUSLY Captain america was right in civil war.

IRON MAN JUST STINKS IN GENERAL.

OKAY sus is just *aahhahewahhujhj* It bothers me so much, probably because its overused. Like, in among us I guess it's alright because you have a reason to say it. BUT when people just start saying "heheh, that's kinda SUS!!" just stopppp. but like i said, if you're typing it in a game I guess it's alright. Just not actually said aloud.

I will give some topics for those who just wanna debate!

-Violent video games should be banned.

-Homework should be banned. (I don't think anyone wants to argue)

-The development of artificial intelligence will help humanity. (Personally, AI freaks me out)

-Banning mobile devices (cell phones, smartphones) at schools: yes or no?

Just a couple. Now, I had an idea. Maybe two people could choose a subject to argue over. You would debate that subject until they decide to stop.

If there is someone else willing to debate the opposite side, I'll play the devil's advocate and argue against homework being banned. Tongue out

I'll argue for homework being banned, even though I don't especially agree with that! I'll work on my debate.

I would likke to say that violent video games are fine, I mean if a parent doesn't want their kid to play anything too violent, then just don't let them. Like, take Hitman for instance. It's a pretty violent game. But that doesn't mean it should be banned, AND then like Call Of Duty: Vanguard, it's a very violent game, so it's rated Mature 17+ FOR A REASON. The zombies-- my dad loves it though, and the reason I don't think violent video games should be banned might be because my parents obviously wouldn't want me playing anything super, SUPER violent, but they still let me play things that are violent.

Violent video games are really bad, and can also cause nightmares. Violent video games are for nobody. Even adults or senior teenagers who can handle the violence proboaly don't play video games anymore, period. Since music is practically for all ages, one music company has an "E" marking for songs with inappropriate lyrics so kids won't listen to them. However, the same does not go with video games. Video games are rated ages 11-14. Violence (I'm guessing) is rated way higher. The two do not go together.

By the way, Minecraft in survival mode does not count as violence, in my opinion.

Yeah. Survival Mode Minecraft is not violence. Neither is hardcore.

Pancake, the reason your previous post about the game we deleted from this post didn't show up is precisely because it's a violent game. --admin

Videogames are rated all the way up to 18+. My grandfather is 80 and still plays videogames so they're not for 11-14 year olds. Heck, I'm well over 14 and I play them all the time. If someone gets nightmares from violent videogames, they probably just won't play them. It would be wrong to ban them from everyone. It's like banning yellow clothes because some people don't like the color yellow. Or, better yet, banning scary books because some people would be uncomfortable reading them. If someone would be uncomfortable playing a violent videogame, they can simply choose not to play them. And as I said, most people who play videogames are actually well over the age of 14.

Wow, good point. You win.

HOWEVER...

Even though violent video games don't have to be banned, people should be knowledgeble about what is a violent video game and which is the opposite. Age ratings are not very accurate. I'm eight and there are some books for eight-year-olds (and other ages) that I don't read because they're too violent for me. Games, even on app stores like the Apple App Store and Google Play, should have a rating based on violence level (0 for no violence, 1, for a little violence, and so on until 10, which is like 18-20+ rating). Age range is not accurate.

On a similar subject, here's another possible debate: App stores need to change how apps are rated.

I'm not debating that, but if anyone wants to, they can.
