Oh wow. Okay. I'm super sorry I left this for so long! I don't have a great excuse... BUT IM SORRY :(((((( still I really enjoyed talking to you and I hope we can keep going :)

also cool high schools! I assume decisions have come out by now? I'm really excited for high school—the one I'm going to has really great STEM and so many science electives, the class choice doc was 68 FREAKING PAGES LONG AND I ONLY GET 4 SEMESTER-LONG SLOTS ALL OF FRESHMAN YEAR and I'm kind of like really happy because GREAT CHOICES :D and also kinda stuck... how's your high school situation?

I have an older brother, yeah. He went to college this year though—and to be honest I don't miss him that much. I still see him every so often, and he was kind of distant throughout the last year or two anyway... I still miss him sometimes, but we live in different worlds... as the younger sibiling myself, what's being the older one like? Is she on the CB? (also she totally looks up to you and thinks you're awesome even if she doesn't show it lol)

oh onomatopoeia is haaaard. I share your pain—the thing is, it's an easy word to avoid using :) on april fools day, I didn't do very much. My friend, call her A, and I told two other friends, L and U, that we were going to be late to our competition. We showed up five minutes later. Not super creative, I know :) Next year I want to put googly eyes on every food item that's not in the freezer or pantry—so when my parents open the fridge in the morning everything STARES BACK AT THEM lol. I know this is a while ago, but did you do anything?

Fictional place... wow that's hard. Good question though! I suppose... Hotel Deucalion, Diagon Alley, the OASIS, Wonderland, Hobbiton and Bilbo's tiny lil' hobbit hole XD, Rivendell, Hogsmeade, Fablehaven... okay that's probably too many :) what about you?

Favorite animal. Probably an owl because it's always been an owl—although I can't remember why anymore lol. I also like hedgehogs, blue glaucuses, cows, and I suppose I should say dogs because I have one... what about you?

Favorite holiday, hm. Probably xmas, because of the presents :) my family's not religious, but we celebrate anyway and it's always fun. What about you?

ALSO HOW DID THE HISTORICAL PROJECT STATES COMPETITION THINGY GO?? :D

New qs: ugh that rhymed. that wasn't a question sorry—okay. Ummmm... least favorite food? Fictional characters you'd like to meet? How'd you find the CB and when did you join? Tell me a joke?

Hey, it's okay! I'm just really glad I can continue talking to you! :)

Yeah, I made the decision of where I'm going to high school (I got two offers and picking between them was really difficult!), and I'm really excited and absolutely terrified for high school, but mostly I'm just glad to be leaving my middle school, which is...not great, for many reasons. Oh, your high school sound awesome! Science is always so fascinating. As for the 68 (!) page course catalogue, I suppose it's better to be overwhelmed than underwhelmed? Honestly, if I were you, I'd just pick something random that sounds cool (that's how a lot of my important decisions go. Everyone thinks I'm very logical about it, carefully weighing the pros and cons but NOPE I typically just randomly pick something on a whim and hope for the best [which may not be the best way of doing things, tbh]). My high school is more humanities-based which is literally a DREAM for me -- students have the option to major in either creative writing, journalism, or theater writing, and they have a lot of really cool clubs too :D It'll be a good change from my middle school. How do you feel about leaving middle school?

Being the older sibling is...interesting, I guess. I'm not really sure how to put it. My sister and I are pretty close in age (a little under two years apart) and our interests overlap in a lot of areas, so we're constantly competing, but in a healthy way (most of the time *cough*). She's a lot more outgoing and spontaneous than me though, whereas I'm more quiet. I'm more willing to try new things and take risks and whatever. And no, she isn't on the CB. I'm not really sure why; I guess she just figures it'd be weird if we're both on here?

Oh putting googly eyes on everything in the fridge is a good one! I might try that next year. This year my sister and I dug out this weird Halloween decoration of a zombie baby thingy from our closet and kept moving it around all day. I think I did something else too but I can't recall. :/

Hmm, you've named most of the fictional places I'd travel to...maybe Dictionopolis, Ketterdam (though probably not the best place to travel honestly), the Boiling Isles, Amphibia... Wait, you've read the Nevermoor series!? Who's your favorite character? I can't wait for the fourth book! :DD

I really like all the animals you mentioned! My favorite is...you guessed it...the pangolin! I do like all sorts of birds as well as cats (mainly because I have two), frogs, lizards, snakes, and basically everything...there's no animal I really dislike.

Christmas is definitely a good holiday, but I think I've got to say either Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July is my favorite, really only because I get to go upstate and see my family and wander around in the woods and eat good food :)

Thanks for remembering the history competition! :) It went okay, I guess -- we didn't win anything, but it was a cool experience -- I loved seeing all the other projects! It was a lot of waiting around and mediocre food, though... But I did get to miss two days of school, which counts for a win in my mind :P

Least favorite food...that's tough. It depends on my mood, I guess. Well, ever since I was a kid I've hateddd anything too sugary, especially cake (Young Pangolin's birthday party treats were always...interesting). I also can't really eat dairy or gluten, and I'm allergic to carrots and peanuts and certain types of apples, which is fun /s What about you?

ooh fictional characters, that's a great question. Nina Zenik, Inej Ghafa, maybe Kaz Brekker but he'd be kinda scary to meet irl, Finian de Karran de Seel, Blue Sargent, Ronan Lynch (though he might be a little scary to meet too), Richard Gansey III, Jupiter North, Stevie Bell, Ginny Weasley, June Iparis, and a ton more I cannot think of off the top of my head. Oh, and you never said it couldn't be a character I created, so let's say my AEs and a couple of my OCs -- Kell Variel and Sally Dear Maple (she's from a book I've been collaborating on with my sister; the name is kind of an inside joke and it'd take wayyy too long to explain) because the rest are too scary :P What about you? And do you have any AEs?

The way I found the CB is not very interesting: I just followed the link in the magazine :P I've been on here for a little over two years -- I joined December 9th, 2020. What about you?

ok ok a joke... What's it called when you can't sleep so you eat a midnight snack instead? Insom-nom-nomnia. *badum tsss* oh and how about Did you hear about the author who accidentally glued themself to their book? I didn't believe them, but that's their story and they're sticking to it. okay those were both terrible...now you tell me a joke?

New questions: what was the last song stuck in your head? If you could time-travel, where/when would you go & why? If you were a book character, a) what genre book would you be in and b) what character archetype would you be? what do you plan on wearing to your 8th grade graduation (b/c I saw you mention this on random thoughts & things and I have no idea myself so asdfghjkl)? that was a lot of questions, sorry :/ (also I sincerely apologize if the formatting's messed up :P)

I'm pretty sure we maxed out the comment's minimum squishedness a few comments ago... :/

I'm kind of bittersweet about it, ig. I'll miss the campus—it's seriously amazing it's huge and there are freaking OUTDOOR TRAILS and so much space. And my best friend is going to a different high school *sobs* and I don't know how well we'll be able to keep in touch as we don't live very close and I have some serious tech restrictions.

Huh. My brother's a bit more than 5 years older than me, so we've never been able to compete at very many things. (we did have a serious Harry Potter trivia competition thing going for a while though...) as far as I know he's never even heard of the CB... my parents don't know I'm on here either... I mentioned it once or twice and they expressed reluctance so I didn't tell them I joined. I feel kind of bad about that but mostly it's just annoying because it makes it hard to find time to really participate in it (or this lol).

um. YOU HAVE A ZOMBIE BABIE THINGY IN YOUR CLOSET. 1) THAT'S AWESOME. 2) are you totally sure it's not going to kill you in your sleep some day??

Well, I like Hawthorne and Cadence and Baby Dave—actually Hawthorne's whole family is great, that whiteboard scene was amazing. And I listened to an audiobook version of it once and Noelle's voice is really funny, but I'm not crazy about her in the book. What about you? Favorite character? And what do you think your knack would be if you had one?

I'm not allergic to anything as far as I can tell except maybe a little to grass. My least favorite food is probably zucchini, especially the way my school cafe makes it (cold and squishy and BLECH). I also don't like red bean-flavored stuff... oH AND I don't like chocolate...

mm. Inej Ghafta, Kaz Brekker, Wylan van Eck, Nikolai Lantsov, Jupiter North, Ender Wiggin, Luna Lovegood, Ginny Weasley, Hercule Poirot & Miss Marple, Septimus Heap, Jenna Heap, Zelda Heap, Marcia Overstrand, Marcellus Pie, Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, I could probably keep going but that's a lot already XD I'd be meeting people until the end of my days if I listed everyone...

I have some AEs but honestly they're kind of bland. Meet ∫Bryn∫, [Nikita], and ~Nova~. They basically never come out and I keep meaning to for a party or something but I don't have that kind of time or dedication :(( I also used to have some named Jinx and Nyx, I thinks (couldn't resist the rhyme lol) but they were also really bland. Your AEs are cool! I like Barnacle :)

Yeah, I also just followed the link lol

I LOVE YOUR TERRIBLE JOKES :D okay. here goes: What’s another name for Santa’s Elves? Subordinate Clauses. What’s the difference between a cat and a comma? One has claws at the end of its paws, and the other is a pause at the end of a clause. My daughter just graduated from law school. Now she’s my daughter in law.

and have my friend's favorite joke, which I absolutely do not understand and that is why it is funny—but seriously like WHERE IS THE JOKE IN THIS—anyway: there are two muffins baking in an oven. One muffin says, "it's sure hot in here, isn't it." The other one says, "WOW, a talking muffin!" I just can't see the POINT OF THIS JOKE—

Last song stuck in my head was King of Anything by Sara Bareilles. You? Time travel, hm. Assuming I had the basic safety precautions and wasn't going to die or totally screw over all of time, probably either back to the total beginning of time or maybe Ancient Egypt? Not sure. What about you, Little Mx. Historian (/jk, I think it's cool :))? If I was a book character, I probably wouldn't get to choose, but for the same of argument, fantasy. I'd have magic and be the comedic relief side character that turns out to be really smart and save the day. That gets it all: fun, magic, awful jokes, and actually being cool all along. What about you? And I have no clue about graduation—I don't really want to wear a dress, + I don't have one, but I don't really have a suit either... so, not sure! Do you know?

Questions: any books you don't like that a lot of other people seem to? Are you homeschooled, or do you go to public/private school? Noise you can't stand? Texture you can't stand? Favorite board game, if you play any?

Hmm, the comment maximum squishedness is weird -- from what I've seen, whenever the comment chain goes on to another page, it gets less squished? This requires further research...

Ooh, your campus sounds amazing! The building my middle school is in used to be a preschool building, so the hallways are really squished -- they weren't intended for lockers -- and there's a tiny bathroom coming off of each classroom which are used as storage closets :') And I'm sure you and your friend will find a way to keep in touch :)

YES THE ZOMBIE BABY. 1) YES 2) no, but it's a risk I'm willing to take

Yes! I love the Hawthorne family -- they're definitely some of my favorite characters (haha yess the whiteboard scene was hilarious!). For favorite character...uh, probably Jupiter North, Miss Cheery, or Frank the vampire dwarf. And knack...I think dragon rider would be cool, or linguist. I don't really know though. What about you?

Your AEs' names are really cool! If you don't have the time/dedication to bring them to a party, maybe just post some diaries on the AE Diaries thread? It doesn't really require any commitment. And thank you! Barnacle's probably my most developed AE; I've had him the longest. I'm also thinking of introducing a new AE-- -I have a name you know; it's Arum-- *hastily shoves her back into the AE workshop of my mind* but yeah I’d definitely recommend the AE Diaries thread for developing your AEs and getting them out more :)

ALL THOSE JOKES ARE AMAZING— I shall now tell them to everyone I know thank you very much. (And the muffin one — I genuinely can’t tell if that’s really dumb or absolutely genius, but either way, it’s very funny)

Oh, I love that song! :D The last song I’ve had stuck in my head is actually an annoying mash up my brain created of What Are The Odds? from Now. Here. This., The Ballad of Czolgosz from Assassins, and What The Heck I Gotta Do from 21 Chump Street (okay so I realize I could have just said “obscure musical songs” and left it at that…).

oh haha Little Mx. Historian, I like that – it’s cool :) There’s a ton of places/times I’d want to travel to (assuming there were safety precautions and no language barrier…) — definitely both places you mentioned; Mesopotamia; Celtic Ireland around the Iron Age; Ancient Rome…specifically the base of the Curia of Pompey…specifically on March 15th, 44 BCE (and just Ancient Rome in general); the Renaissance period and get a portrait of myself painted…; the Golden Age of Piracy as long as I didn’t get killed; the American and French Revolutions; late 1880s London (just because I know a lot about that time period thanks to my history project competition thingy and it’d be nice to solve the Jack the Ripper murderer [though not “nice” exactly…]); Roaring 20s New York City; the upstate NY in the mid 1930s to visit the fancy coffee shop/hotel thingy my maternal grandfather’s side of the family used to own; the 1960s-ish through the 2000s to stalk my grandparents and parents; and the 2010s to say hello to my younger self and break every rule of time travel! Uh yeah so I’ve thought about this a lot, apparently XD Hey — have you read Doomsday Book by Connie Willis? I’ve read…half of it, but it’s 600 pages so it’s a little intimidating — but the time travel aspect is really thought out. It might not be your thing, but I’ve enjoyed it so far :)

Yeah, I’d want to be in a fantasy book too because ~magic~ As for archetype…erm, I guess I’d be the academic rival of the hero who the hero must reluctantly turn to when they need help who then agrees to help the hero (and acts like they don’t really want to help the hero but actually does) and then ends up being a valuable part of the hero’s friend group thingy. That sentence was kind of confusingly worded…

I have no clue, honestly. I’ll probably just end up wearing, like, a jumpsuit or something. I don’t know.

Yeah, there are some books like that for me. Mainly the Divergent series — I just found it really cliche, with so many plot holes, poor writing, and flat characters. I mean, it was really just written to make a profit off of the Hunger Games hype, I think. The other series is Percy Jackson, which I don't think is at all bad — I’ve just never been able to get into it, for whatever reason. I’d like to try and read it again, though. What about you?

As for school, I go to…well, a charter school, so it isn’t really public or private. I’ve already expressed that I don’t really like my middle school, but I don’t think any of us need me to rant for three pages about my school, so I’ll leave it at that :P

Ack I have a lot — snoring, sniffling, any kind of loud breathing/mouth noises, babies crying, low whispering/talking when you can just make out the words drives me CRAZY (this one’s especially bad because people are trying not to bother others when they do this but it’s so much worse for me than if they were just talking at a nOrMaL VoLuMe—), things scraping (like in pans or whatever).... What about you?

Oh i have a lot of these too — this one specific fabric my tablecloth is made of — it’s kind of rough/bumpy, and whenever i have to wipe crumbs off it or something and my hand rubs against eetubtrhjgbkjfdgnb, mealy apples, those scraper things dentists use on your teeth, unglazed pottery — it’s all gritty and it’s especially bad my fingernail touches it *shudders*, wooden popsicle sticks, using paper towels as napkins, stepping in a wet spot on the floor with socks on, chalkboards (oh my GOSH when I was in elementary school I went to a catholic school where they had chalkboards and I was honored with the role of Chalkboard Cleaner™ for a whole YEAR and it was absolute torture). What about you?

Favorite board game…hmm, probably Balderdash or Cranium. My mom’s side of the family is crazy intense when it comes to Cranium — we always play at family reunion-type thingies and it always ends up being my mom and her siblings versus my sister and our two cousins versus my great-aunts and uncles and it’s WILD. I really like card games too — my family’s latest obsession is Kings in the Corner which is pretty simple — it’s basically solitaire but against other people — but literally so fun. What about you?

Okay, new questions — Favorite mythical creature? Skill/ability you wish you had? What would you say your aesthetic is (not necessarily how you dress but kind of your vibe, I guess? or just whatever your favorite aesthetic is)?

submitted by pangolin, age she | they, Outskirts of the Galaxy
(May 9, 2023 - 7:12 pm)

Okay, what if on the last page we started posting small comments to test out the max squisshiness because maybe it'd go to a new page later and therefore they'd be more squished? (if that made any sense...)

ummmm my knack—I have no idea. Dragon rider would be very cool, but maybe I'd be a lingust too, or a super-reader or be able to fly or honestly idrk

yes the muffin one—befuddlingly genius... also there are two similar bee jokes: What's black and yellow and flies at 3000 feet? A bee in an airplane. What buzzes, is black and yellow, and goes along the bottom of the sea? A bee in a submarine. THESE ARE SO GENIUS JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE SO STUPID and I kind of hate them but they're so good at the same time...

haha, your brain sounds impressive if it can manage all that at once~

um well I'm going to hitch a ride on your time-travel machine because you clearly know all the good places :) I've read part of To Say Nothing of the Dog, also by Connie Willis. It also has a really great time-travel premise, and I do like her writing. I've never read Doomsday Book but maybe I'll check it out.

I'm actually reading Divergent right now—I'm not very far into the first one, and so far it's okay. Kind of cliché (or is it clichè? I can never remember. Better call it clichèé just to be sure, I suppose, but now it just looks like a really angry bee...) I see your point about Percy Jackson. I never really got into it either, although I read them all. I didn't particularly like KOTLC, although I'll read the new ones because they're nostalgic... I also didn't like Narnia for some reason, although I know many people really do. Also Tolstoy is deathly boring :)

ooh some of those for me too. You're right, low talking when you can still hear it is the worst because my brain fixates on it so much and I can't focus at anythingggg... That scraping noise eyour teeth make sometimes, scraping things (pans, utensils on pans, etc), I can't stand the sound of carpet for some odd reason, and honestly just people talking in general sometimes—after a while of socalization I just can't stand it anymore and I swear to god people never. shut. up. :(

oh yeah the dentist scraper thingies are awful. The feeling of carpet, the itchy spiky grass, chalkboards (I'm so sorry about that year...) and one of my school classrooms has a whiteboard that's so gritty it barely erases and I cannot stand to touch it it's awful. Huh. I thought I'd have more (that I can recall off the top of my head lol). I guess I'm more affected by sound.

Ooh, I like Balderdash. I've never played Cranium, but it sounds really fun! I'm a big board game enthusast, so the ones I like are usually heavier and longer. I like Feast for Odin, Terraforning Mars, Darwin's Journey, and honestly too many more to list... I like card games too, especially Hearts and Spit. I've never played Kings in the Corner.

Mythical creature, probably the boring but awesome answer of a dragon... you? Skill or ability—umm well other than something OP like flight, probably that I was just better at understanding people. Or if that's too deep, then drawing. I've always wanted to be good at drawing but I'm honestly pretty bad lol. What about you?

My aesthetic is probably a combination of very tired, extremely hyper, annoyed with everybody, nerdy/smart, and argumentative... as for how I dress, usually shorts, a t-shirt, and a sweatshirt, but honestly just whatever's clean and on the top of my pile :) What about you?

I'M GOING TO JAPAN ON SATURDAY I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED :DDDDD but I have to give a speech in Japanese in front of a Japanese school (me and the other kids too, but STILL) and I'm terrified BUT ITS GONNA BE AWESOMEEEE :D although I won't be able to talk to you for a while and I'm missing four soccer games for it :(((( BUT IT'LL BE FUN and like none of my friends are on the trip BUT WHATEVER IT WILL BE AMAZING :D I'll send some photos after if you want :)

QUESTIONS: favorite letter of the alphabet? Do you know any other languages—or are learning any, or want to learn any? Are you doing anything fun this summer? Do you play the nytimes games ever? Favorite kind of chair (look idk this is what my brain thought, I'm sorry)? Least favorite kind of chair (lol my brain go zoom)? And with that epic question, I bid you adieu.

Oh, I understand what you're saying -- I'm not sure if it'll work because, if I recall correctly, pages can only have 15 comments on them, but it's worth a shot!

Those jokes are great! I laughed while reading them and woke up my cat :P

haha I'm not sure how impressive my brain is -- it's mostly "wHaT aRe tHe oOdS that this planet would be the perfect distance from the--PAN-AMERICAN EXPEDITION in Buffaloooo, in buffaloooo?--what the heck I gotta dooOoo? to be with youUuu? though it BRINGS THE END TO AN ERA, a new and bizaaaare oneeeee is about to--WORK YOUR WAY TO THE HEAD OF THE LIIIIINE *blamph* to the head of the liiiiine--" Sorry that paragraph was utterly uncalled for. I'm tired.

I do think the first Divergent book was okay, but I feel it starts to go downhill after the second one. I don't know. Oh, KOTLC, that's another series I never really liked. And yeah, for some reason I've never really found Narnia that interesting...hmm, that's another series I should give another go. Maybe I'll think about it differently...

Yeah, all the textures/sounds you said bother me as well *shudders*

Oh, I've heard of all those board games, but I've never played them! I have played Hearts and Spit, though, and they're really fun :D

Yeah, dragons are pretty awesome :) I'd go with either dragons or kitsunes, probably. For skills/abilities, I'd go with...uh, maybe acting, singing, or digital art...I don't really know...

Oh, wow, your aesthetic is like. exactly the same as mine. As for how I dress, usually a t-shirt, a sweatshirt or plaid shirt, and jeans.

OH MY GOODNESS THATS AWESOME!! I'm so excited for you!! I'm positive your speech will be AMAZING!! AND YES?? I WOULD LOVE TO SEE PICTURES! :D

Favorite letter of the alphabet...hmm. I like O and T and R, I guess. R because that's the first letter of my name, O and T because they just...look nice? I don't know. I guess T and O are both used a lot? What about you?

Well, I'm only fluent in English, but I know very very very basic Irish, Indonesian, Dutch, and Spanish. (just like generic phrases, certain numbers, greetings, etc.) My current school doesn't offer any languages, unfortunately, but next year, I think I'll take Japanese. :D And I know you take Japanese, but are there any other languages you know/want to learn?

Over the summer, my sister and I are going to do a rock climbing camp and a tennis camp (not sleepaway camps -- just in the area), we're going to go upstate to my great aunt's property and go swimming/boating at the lake she's on and wander around in the woods around her house, and I'm going to go up to my grandma and great-grandma in upstate NY :) I think there's also a family reunion on my dad's side of the family (which is like over a hundred people and a little under a quarter of them are all named some variant of Patrick--) I'm going to be visiting a lot of my family, which I'm really excited for, because even last summer when COVID restrictions were pretty relaxed, I didn't get to see all my family members. What about you?

Yeah! I don't have a subscription, but I do the mini crossword and Wordle. What about you?

Hmm...maybe Adirondack chairs or these chairs my sister's old music teacher had that looked like hands? Those were...interesting. Swivel chairs are also fun. What about you?

For least favorite chair -- I hate the stools in my science classroom. They're uncomfortable and it's sooo annyoing having to sit on them for two periods in a row. I also don't really like folding chairs, because my family has a lot of old-ish ones that they bring out for large gatherings, and one particularly rickety one collapsed beneath me when I was a small child. So I've never trusted them. What about you?

Questions: If you had to change your name (CB or otherwise), what would you change it to? Are hot dogs sandwiches? Do you play any instruments/want to play any instruments (have I already asked you this?)? Favorite aspect of the CB (like AEs, ski lodges, RPs, etc)?

bye~

Hi! Sorry this is so late again I have terrible dedication and time management...

awww send pics of your cat!!

YOUR BRAIN IS REALLY IMPRESSIVE... when I'm tired, who even knows what happens up there...

Oh, kitsunes—or is the plural form kitsune? I feel like that would sound better for some reason. Did you know that the plural of octopus should technically be octopuses? Because the i ending to give octopi is latin, but octopus is greek, so it'd be octopodes, except when a word comes to english the suffix changes into an english one, meaning octopuses. (by the way, I got this from Last Week Tonight, a talk show my friend likes, so I don't really know if you should trust it~) and now I've diverged tangentially faaaar away from where I should be so—

kitsunes! yay! ok next topic!

My speech was terrifying lol. It was really short though, so it wasn't that bad. I'll post some pics on the last page although not too many because I don't want to overload you :) Japan was amazing! THE FOOD WAS SO GOODDDD :D—even convienience store food was heavenly. My favorite Japanese food is probably onigiri or dango, and I got some of both on the trip :D

Huh. I wouldn't have said any of those. Not that I know what my favorite letter of the alphabet is... maybe B? I like C; it's the first letter of my name. U and F (lowercase cursive f's are so satisfying to write) are also nice. I'm not totally sure why though...

It's cool you're thinking about taking Japanese! we could be STUDY BUDDIES lol. And it's also impressive that you know basic phrases in those languages! Welllll there are plenty of languages I want to learn but I never manage to last for more than a few weeks. I've tried to stay motivated for Spanish, Toki Pona, Mandarin, Morse Code, ASL, and Latin at various points but totally failed oops... although I know the ASL alphabet, does that count for anything?

Your summer sounds interesting! The Patrick thing made me laugh :) How many variations can there be?? Patrick and Patricia are the only ones I can think of. This summer I have a pretty long sleepaway math camp that I hope will be fun—I've never done a sleepaway camp before. I also have a one week Model UN camp in the area. And I'm hoping I can do a two week backpacking thing in Wyoming—I make the age limit by one day and it sounds seriously so fun but I don't know if it'll work out yet and none of my friends are avaliable :(( although it'd still probably be fun without them.

I use my dad's account for the puzzles, so I do most of the monday or tuesday crosswords before getting bored :) I do the mini when I remember, which is approximately half the time. I also do the spelling bee a lot! It's probably my favorite game on there. I've gotten to queen bee with my friends a few times but never by myself.

UM CHAIR HANDS OR HAND CHAIRS THOSE SOUND COOL they remind me of the baby zombie in your closet <3<3<3 I guess I like swivel chairs, it's hard to pass those up. Or maybe cozy and cushy reading couches or chairs something? But I suspect that has more to do with the reading than the chairs...

Yeah my science classroom has stools as well—and those folding chairs sound suspicious. My least favorite kind of chair is probably one in airplanes or buses or cars or some other kind of transport—the chair part is okay but I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE HEADREST because it's always at the wrong height *cries*

If I was going to change my name, I would sit in indecision for a while, have like 6 new CB personas pop up on random threads, and go back to my origional CB name because I couldn't decide XD but I'd probably try to keep it magic-focused or like wind or something—maybe Katabatic or Leviathan or something that I think sounds cool and mysterious but probably in reality sounds random and weird—but heyyyy I'm random and weird too! Waaaaait was that one sentance?? I'm sorry... anyway what about you?

YES HOT DOGS ARE SANDWICHES. Is a swimming pool with people swimming in it a soup?

I play piano. I used to sing choir and take voice lessons, but I quit this year. If I was going to learn another instrument, I'd probably choose trumpet or flute or something but there's nothing I especially want to learn right now. You?

Okay I really love the ski lodges even though I never get around to writing/reading any. I started one with my friend but haven't worked on it in ages and have self-diagnosed a Serious and Life-Threatening Form of No Motivation... AND THEN OF COURSE THE COMMUNITY love the community yes the community yay—everyone's so kind and open and I have a lot in common with many of the people on here. What's your favorite part of the CB?

Five essential school supplies? Favorite pride flag color combo? A word you absolutely hate? Favorite emoji and emoticon? (I might've already asked this one, if so I'm sorry about that). What color is your water bottle? (If you have a regular one). Song lyric that is your life motto?

byee :)

yikes, this should not have taken me this long to respond, I'm sorry!

yes!! I will post the pictures of my cats (plural! :0) in a seperate comment. And I saw your pictures weren't posting -- maybe change the image type? I don't know?? oh, and if you do figure out how to post pictures -- you have a dog, right? I'd love to see pictures :)

I didn't know that, actually! I thought either octopuses, octopi, or octopodes was correct. This requires further research...

your trip sounds awesome!! and yES the food sounds awesome!! I've always wanted to travel to Japan :D also also also -- I've decided to take Japanese in high school! you partly inspired me to do so :) any tips/advice/things I should know?

yesss lowercase f's are so satisfying in cursive!! So, clearly you know cursive -- do you do calligraphy or hand lettering or anything like that?

eyy study buddies! Ooh, all those languages are cool! Yeah, motivation is definitely something I struggle with as well -- not just for languages, but like...any project I ever start :') and sure, the ASL alphabet totally counts!

hmm...we've definitely got a few Patricias. We've got a few Pats, a Patty, a Paddy, and like seven Patricks, as well as people with Patrick and variants of it as middle names... last summer, in fact, some random kid who was not part of the reunion asked my dad "hOw mAnY PaTrIcKs dO yOu GuYs hAvE??"

Your summer sounds really fun too! Math camp sounds...fun? If you like math. And...not fun, to say the least, if you don't like math. Hopefully it's the former... Model UN camp sounds really cool too! :D and backpacking! that sounds really fun! it's something I've always wanted to do.

oh, gosh. If I had to change my CB name, it'd probably be to something related to writing? There's already been a Quill, but something in that vein. Spilled Ink, maybe? I don't really know.

NOPE NOPE NOPE IT'S NOT SOUP. Soup requires something to be boiled, I think? Well, cooked, anyway. If the swimming pool had boiling water, on the other hand...

ah, piano's cool! My sister play[s/ed] the piano (I honestly don't know if she plans on continuing her lessons??). and choir's cool as well :D I don't really play an instrument -- I used to play this xylophone thingy in 3rd grade, and I also played a flute at one point, and then there was the squeaky recorder era in elementary school, but I think we've already spoken about that... I've messed around with the guitar, ukulele, baritone ukulele, banjo, harmonica, and steel tongue drum, as well as experimented with digital music making, but that's all by ear, so I don't actually *play* any instrument. And I've done a bit of songwriting as well, but none of it's very good.

I gotta agree with you there -- ski lodges and the community are probably my favorite parts (though I love AEs as well)! I'm struggling through a ski lodge of my own, and it's gotten pretty far, I think? (yikes, speaking of my ski lodge, I should try and releae a part soon) Oh, which was your ski lodge? I'd love to read it, even if it isn't finished :) and then the community, of course -- everyone's so awesome :)

okay um -- notebook, for notes and such; pen, because augh my handwriting is terrible when I'm writing fast with a pencil; laptop, because I type much much faster then I write; binder, because binders are superior to folders in every way; and graphing calculator, because, well, Algebra I. you?

oh GOSH that's tough. I like the bi, lesbian, and omni flags a lot, and there's so many cool neopronoun flags. what about you?

Ooh yes there are definitely words I hate, but I mostly think of them when I come across them -- I can't really think of any off the top of my head. I guess phlegm, mucus, and similar words. *shudders*

My favorite emoji is this one, obviously: Foot in mouth  and my favorite emoticon is probably :) or :D or <3. Basic, I know, but I use them the most. What about you?

My water bottle is black and then in white lettering says National History Day and then my district on it -- I got it from the history competition thingy. :) What about you?

ooh that's a tough question. a good question, but a tough one. uhhh I guess "Take up all the space, even when you think you don't deserve it" from Things That I've Learned by Orla Gartland?? I dunno. You?

Okay, questions! Favorite painting/artwork? what skill are you most proud of (have I already asked this?)? favorite season (might've asked this one too aah)? how many pairs of shoes do you own and describe them (this so random, sorry ahhh)? most recent thing you've eaten?

ack, I gotta go, so the last bit is a bit rushed. sorryyy~

oh wow your cats are super cuteeee I wanna squish...

cool! uhh tips idrk—same as any language I guess, practice for a little bit every day (not that I'm doing this lol). Japanese has three alphabets (!) but you should learn two of them pretty early on—hirigana and katakana—and then kanji you'll basically always be learning. Sorry, I don't really have any tips, lol. Good luck learning it! Maybe we can talk about it more once your class starts.

lolll that made me laugh. I never thought about Paddy being a variant of Patrick. I have a teacher named Patrick. He's really funny and kind of mean and everyone idolizes him which is kind of annoying. He teaches various economic classes at my school's high school. I'm thinking of taking some next year!

You used the word 'fun' 4 times in that paragraph out of 51 words, making 'fun' approximately .078 of the content. ok sorry that's kinda random lol

ok fine when I grow up I will boil a swimming pool of people. your fault!

ah yes the squeaky (wait that's how you spell squeaky, right?? right?? please be right... I DON'T WANNA ADD TWO E'S TO SQUEAKY THAT WOULD BE HORRIBLE) recorder era... wow, that's a lot of instruments you've tried! I've always wanted to try steel drums—my school has a band of them, I think—but I never actually got around to it.

Mine was The Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I think it's on the third/fourth page of PP and looks like Ski Lodge: The. I did it with a friend—who's going to a different school next year—and it kind of died... RIP ski lodge D: oh well maybe I'll get around to writing the next part? Maybe?

laptop, small unlined but maybe dotted notebook, pen, fidget toy—doesn't really matter what kind, or even if it's supposed to be a toy at all because I fidget with everything—actually I'm just going to combine the pen and the fidget into one to make a FIDGET PEN (they exist) and now I have two items left :) which would probably be headphones, and a book.

oh those are good. I like aro, ace, abrosexual, genderfluid, and lesbian flags, but there's a lot of cool ones. and now I've spent ages looking up funny lgbtq+ puns... whoOOOps

those are good words to hate. I half hate the word bouy for some undescribable reason, the word monotonous has wayyyy too many o's, and there are probably more I've forgotten...

YES THOU CANST RESIST THE POWER OF FOOT-IN-MOUTH >:) okk aside from that and SEALED (such disturbing setting possibilities) on cricket, I think I like the woozy face from normal emojis—that or the orangutang. Those are my two most used emojis... slightly disturbing?? My favorite emoticon is probably :D or ˘¯˘ (opt-shift-. + opt-shift- + opt-shift-.), which I made one day when fooling around with my keyboard.

Mine's a faded and dinged silver hydroflask with stickers :)—I think I have an owl, a hedgehog, a bee that says "bee kind," a rocket, one my friend made for me, a book, a geometric pineapple because yes, another bee but this one has a crown, and a penguin. Oh, and it has two ratty friendship bracelets on the cap—it used to have four but two fell off *cries*

oh this is hard. Maybe "when somebody says you can't do it, do it twice and take pictures." Or maybe "come to the nerd side, we have π." Or maybe "never trust anyone who hasn't brought a book with them." Or maybe "when life gives you lemons, make orange juice and leave people wondering how you did it." Or maybe "it is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane." (Philip K. Dick). Or maybe "FEAR ME LAWS OF PHYSICS, I'M COMING TO VIOLATE YOU." (HPMOR). Does it suprise you if I say I have a list? >:D

oh my god when you add a question mark it looks like a curl of hair ?:D okay nevermind that just looks weird

favorite artwork... probably some origami thingy like Satoshi Kamiya's origami phoenix. I'm not sure. What about you? Skill I'm most proud of. Hmmm. I'm not sure! A runner up would be my TERRIBLE PUNS MWAHAHAHA. FEAR ME AND MY BAD JOKES. Wbu? Favorite season—WINTER ALL THE WAY. I live somewhere without snow, so it just gets nice and cold. Uh... shoes?? Probably like four or something—gray & red sneakers, black soccer cleats, black slippery shoes that aren't slippers—just like those slip-on athletic random shoes that idrk what they're called, and probably some really tiny old pair of basketball shoes. What about you? Most recent thing I've eaten is probably a strawberry. You?

Questions!! What are you looking forward to most for high school? Favorite drink? What book(s?) are you reading right now, and what three are you reading next? Describe your favorite teacher? Nicest compliment you've gotten recently? Worst—like stupidest, not meanest—insult you've ever told someone (like once I told my dad YoUr FaCe Is A ThIrD DeRiVaTiVe D:< lol)

So I'm returning my computer to my school today and I don't have another one so I probably won't be able to respond for like... ~all summer~ or at least long posts like these so I'm sorry but I'll try to revive it once I have a chance, but it might be a WHILEEEEE ack I'll probably stalk the CB sometimes but won't be able to post much

so bye and this MaF group has been awesome—AND WILL E AWESOME IN THE FUTURE ONCE I RETURN MWAHAHAHA—but have fun in the summer & I will stalk you uncreepily! byeeeeeee :? (I was going for bittersweet but that looks more queasy oops)

hey! :)

yeah, I'd love to talk more about it once my class starts! :)

yay! random math! I did use the word 'fun' quite a bit, now that I'm rereading that paragraph...

I started reading your ski lodge! I love it so far — it's literally genius and so funny. If you decided to continue it, that'd be cool, but I completely understand how hard it can be to collaborate with someone if it's hard to meet up in person.

yes I definitely agree with all those items! And those flags are all really cool! And I hate those words too! And those emojis are very...um. That's all I have to say about the orangutan and woozy face emojis...

?:D is my new favorite emoticon, thank you very much

ooh the origami phoenix is really cool! :D I'm not sure about my absolute favorite artwork, but I like a lot of Alphonse Mucha's lithograph series — I like The Seasons (the 1896 one is superior and I have Strong Feelings about this) and the Precious Stones — mainly because those artworks were hung up in the hallway of the building I did gymnastics in, so when I was waiting to go in for my class I had a lot of time to look at them (which is a kind of weird reason to like an artwork??). And I've always loved Van Gogh which kind of feels like a basic go-to answer but his artworks are just so cool? like they all just have this very distinct vibe to them, and I love the texture. Of his artworks, I suppose my favorites are Starry Night, Cafe Terrace at Night, Starry Night over the Rhone...which, I'm realizing now, all involve some sort of night. Make of that what you will.

Your bad jokes are definitely a great skill! you never fail to make me laugh :) That's a tough question...hmm, I guess I'm proud of my ability to write cursive with both hands?? I don't know a lot of people my age (irl, that is; I know there's quite a few people on the CB) who can actually write cursive, and every once in a while someone will ask me if I can write cursive and then I proceed to not only write cursive but write it with my non-dominant hand as well. It's a pretty useless skill, tbh, but it's fun. my most useful skill, though, would probably be my ability to memorize a ton of stuff and my good work ethic. :P

Favorite season is definitely autumn! Winter’s probably second though.

I have precisely three pairs of shoes: my beat up black high top converse which I wear everywhere and are on the verge of completely falling apart, a pair of off-white vans sneakers with some floral design on them that I wear whenever I'm going somewhere that's a bit more formal than my falling apart converse but not formal enough for me to actually, like, wear dress shoes, and those slip on not-slippers you mentioned — I think they're called slides?? I honestly don't know??

The most recent thing I ate was technically a beverage — a chai tea latte!

ooh good question! I think I'm most looking forward to all the clubs and extracurricular activities and such, but I'm also really excited for the heavier workload, which I know is a crazy thing to look forward to BUT I'm just not challenged enough at my current middle school, so it'll be a welcome change. :) you?

my favorite drink is probably chai tea or boba tea or just like...normal black tea.  I really like tea :P You?

Right now, I'm reading Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater which is the first of the Dreamer Trilogy, which is like a side series of the Raven Cycle. Next is Mister Impossible, the second in the trilogy, and technically the next after that is Greywaren, the third in the trilogy, but who knows when that's gonna arrive at the library so *shrugs*, but anyway next is A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik. And that's not counting the books I have to read for school. What about you?

My favorite teacher is my ELA teacher — he's literally awesome. He actually teaches us stuff, unlike most of my other teachers, and he challenges me much more than my other teachers so I’m never bored in his classes. He also has a really dry, dark humor and always has some amusing anecdote to tell. What about you?

hmm...yesterday someone said that “[insert irl name] is, like, proof of ‘you can do anything if you set your mind to it’” and the person who said it wasn’t even talking directly to me?? like she was just saying it?? it really boosted my self confidence :) what about you?

oof that’s tough. I think the other day I informed someone their face was coleslaw. You already said about your dad’s face being a third derivative, but do you have a second-worst insult?

aww, I’ll miss talking to you! This really was an awesome MaF group, and I’m so glad I got this chance to get to know you and talk to you! I hope you have a wonderful summer and stay safe and do lots of fun things. <3333

And stalking me uncreepily — how sweet??

See you in a few months! bye~ <333

I'm back :D although school hasn't started yet, so I don't know again how much I'll be online—or even how much I'll be online after school does start... high school sounds busyyyy and my courses come out in four days!! I'm so excited~

oops I totally forgot about my ski lodge haha I'll have to talk to my friend hmmm "literally genius" is my specialty *haughty sniff* no but thank you so much that means a lot. It never feels creative when I'm rereading it... :(

whoa! I've never heard of most of the art you mentioned, haha—I know approximately nothing about famous art classics, but those seem cool. And um yes I am very impressed at your ambidexterous cursive skills—I can write all the lowercase letters fine, but I've forgotten all my capitals lol. I love cursive 'f's and ALSO TOTALLY RANDOM but did you know that the integral symbol ∫ is actually based off of a old-timey f because in old corresopndance they sometimes wrote a cursive s like an f and it's supposed to be s for sum?

OKAY so I like tea? I think? But like most tea I've had never seems to taste like much? And I think it's good because it's warm and stuff but still kind of tasteless and I always feel cheated hmph. And I've tried coffee and tea and stuff with caffeine but it never seems to wake me up—the times I've had it, I feel no different, except maybe more tired haha. grr. But anyway, my favorite beverage would probably be some kind of fruit smoothie thingy, but I don't have anything specific in mind.

oh, I've read A Deadly Education (you've probably finished it by now lol). Did you like it? I liked the first one, and the second one was pretty good, but I didn't like the third one at all because EL SHOULDA BEEN AROACE EXCUSEZ MOI right now I just finished reading The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis (great author, one of my favorites, definitely check her out). It's like a combination of plagues, epidemics, and time travel. I thought it was really good, but if you don't like plagues you should check some of her other books out instead—I suggest To Say Nothing of the Dog. I think you'd really like that one because I think you like historical stuff and that one's like time travel + paradoxes + victorian England. It's really good!

I'm also reading lotr, which I've never actually read. I made it thorugh the Fellowship of the Ring a while ago but put it down and I'm trying to read the rest. Aside from those, I have a lot of classic scifi lined up on my shelf—stuff like I, Robot (Isaac Asimov), the second book of Dune (Frank Herbert), the fourth Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card), some things by Neil Gaiman, etc. Since it's been so long, I think I'm justified in asking what you're reading right now :)

My favorite teacher (from last year ig) was my Humanities teacher. She's seriously so friendly but not in the weird creepy way, and she challenges me, and also she's a word nerd like me and sometimes sends me cool articles or book recs or stuff :D

ok by now I've forgotten the question so I get to avoid it :') wow that's beautiful <3 if only my face were so nice... haha I think I told someone their face was an artificial forest once. That wasn't my best moment...

wAiT A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: do you put spaces before and after your em dashes?? Because I saw you just did but I don't think I've seen you do that before? OR NVM I GUESS I HAVE hmph.

?:D,

Hex
