Kyngdom, again

Kyngdom, again

This is a reboot of the other Kyngdom thread, moved because DtE gets more traffic than CaC, which is where it was originally.

Leetttss gooooo! Rebooting Kyngdom! I believe from looking at the old thread our current ideas are along the lines of doing a ten-year time skip from where Kyngdom left off and then, during the past ten years, Catastrophe has mostly taken over (except for the Northwest, which is under the control of the Sanukans, a character created by the old Kyngdomer Sybill), and the Allied Resistance (Captn O, FaFA, definetely a few more I'm forgetting) is doing its best to push back but mostly crumpling under Catastrophe. Do we have a plan for what the Powers are doing those ten years? I read the history of Kyngdom a while ago but I've mostly forgotten it, so I don't remember which powers were where and which were under the control of Jaaws and whatnot, so if somebody could remind me of that, it would be great.

Alrighty, here's a quick recap of what this thread is about for people who weren't on the old thread:

We started off with a thread from Avara asking what people knew about Kyngdom, which is dead, and pretty soon we decided to reboot it. I beleive C & J posted the link to the Ultimate Guide to Kyngdom, which has all of the history of Old Kyngdom plus, on page 2, the rules and how to navigate the website, which I found immensely helpful.

While discussing the reboot, we decided that we would timeskip ahead 10 years from where Kyngdom left off when it died, so that we would have space to insert our own characters but many of the characters from the Old Kyngdomers could still be alive if they wished to join again.

Now we're working out what has happened in the last ten years.

I recommend reading the history of Old Kyngdom if you've got the time.

If you don't have the time, here's some stuff you should know:

- There are six 'Powers,' the Power of Wing, Power of Hoof, Power of Claw, Power of Fin, Power of Fang, and Power of Some Other Animal Trait I Can't Remember Right Now. (These are listed out of order)

- Each Power is  a mythical creature who has that trait (for example, a gryphon for the Power of Wing (the gryphon is named Caelani, by the way)). These mythical creatures have great magical power and created Kyngdom from nothing long ago.

- Each chapter was named after a Power, with Power of Wing being the first chapter. Kyngdom ground to a halt in what I beleive was the fifth chapter. For the first four chapters, the storyline was guided and directed by the Admins/Editors, but at around the start of chapter 5 they relinquished control to the CBers.

- There's also a fairy person named the PowerFriend who sprang into existence a long long time ago at more or less the same time as the Powers. The PowerFriend is dead now (I think?), but every now and then you'll run into a character descended from the PowerFriend who might have magical abilities because of it.

- Eventually Claaws, who I think was the Power of Fang, grew wild and unruly and became dark. Claaws was exiled, and from Claaws's darkness sprang the first Sideaffected Power (SAP), named Jaaws. Jaaws was evil and would do anything to destroy Kyngdom.

-  SAPs are usually evil, born from the darkness in a Power. SAPs are their own creatures, unconnect to the Power after birth (although sometimes they specifically target their power to murder). Each Power has one, except for Caelani (Power of Wing, gryphon) who has two and Lunee (Power of Howl, winged wolf) who has none. Ayearth's (Power of Fin, sea dragon) SAP was once Ayearth's love, but has since died. Sylvia also had a child at one point, who is sometimes considered an SAP, although the foal might turn out to be good.

-  Soon Claaws managed to master her darkness (although Jaaws was still around) and was able to rejoin the Powers, but not before destroying the family and town of a young boy who renamed himself Catastrophe.

- Catastrophe swore vengeance on the Powers and ran off into the woods and lived with some animals for some time.

- Then, after a little while, he  came back for revenge, to kill the Powers, using Brazen Goo, a goo derived from certain flowers that is the only thing capable of killing a Power.

- While seeking revenge, he fell in love with the PowerFriend, who was disguised as a human, and they had a child together named Ronan.

- Eventually he killed all of the Powers. The last one left was Claaws, along with the PowerFriend, who Catastrophe killed after discovering her identity.

- When the Powers 'die,' they don't truly die. They turn into an instrument that contains them. Catastrophe gave each of these instruments to an animal Guardian, who took care of it and was told never to play it. Playing it would awaken the powers once more.

- When Catastrophe finally killed Claaws, Claaws also killed him, and somehow Catastophe, and his son, Ronan, who was present, both got sucked into Claaws's instrument. When Claaws got brought back to life hundreds of years later, so were Catastrophe and Ronan.

That was all backstory, taking place before Kyngdom started. Since this is getting long, I'll post a quick summary of what went on in Old Kyngdom and our current ideas for what went on in the ten year timeskip and where we'll pick up the story again in another comment once this shows up.

You can see a lot of the important stuff from old Kyngdom in Sgt. Pepper's comment below, but I'll just wrap this up. This comment will hopefully be a lot shorter than the first one because much of Old Kyngdom was personal character development that doesn't affect us much. So here's all the important bits, in no particular order.

- When Kyngdom left off, Catastrophe had control over much of Northwest and Southeast Kyngdom. One of our ideas for the future is that perhaps Catastrophe has taken over more of Kyngdom in the last ten years, and the New Kyngdomers have to overthrow him.

- Catastrophe was trying to gain control of three artifacts called the Sword, Sheild, and Crown, which, if collected in that order, would give unimaginable power to the user or something like that. I forget exactly what powers they were supposed to grant you, but it was going to give Catastrophe the ability to rule Kyngdom.

- The Sanukans, who were a species created by Sybill, were in control of Northeast Kyngdom and allied with the Resistance. We've been thinking that to respect Sybill and the Old Kyngdomers, the Northeast would most likely remain under their control.  The Resistance HQ was in the city of Mer in the Southwest, so if Catastrophe were to take over more land, Mer would also most likely be a free city.

- The Sword was in the care of a character named Ocean, who was (I think?) the heir to the throne of Mer. Eniyan, one of Sybill's characters, had the Sword, and one of Soren Infinities characters (Sybill thinks it's a charrie named Taurus) had the Sheild. If we wanted, we could have the SSC go missing or have Catastrophe gain control of one or more of them, or they could just reman safely in the care of their guardians.

- I beleive all of the Powers had been summoned. Some of them were under the control of Jaaws, who had possesed them or something via a special Brazen Goo.

- As Sgt. Pepper said, BIG was allied with Catastrophe, and the Resistance, a collection of allied organizations (including FaFA, Captn' O, and at least one other that I'm forgetting), was fighting Catastrophe for control of Kyngdom. The Resistance wants to make Kyngdom a republic while Catastrophe wants it to be a dictatorship with himself in control. FaFA wants the Powers back in the instruments, while BIG wants to do mysterious evil with them. Personally, I think the Powers aren't going to end up back in the instruments anytime soon.

- Theres also an organization called SOCS, which I think (?) is part of Catastrophe's army like BIG is, and which was similar to BIG in that it is a mysterious evil scientist organization, but even more evil, experimenting on humans and animal and everything in between and making numerous new species via genetic engineering.

- Catastrophe and BIG are  making some mysterious machine on Bleak Peak, which I beleive is where BIG's base is.

Also, I've got a question. What did the Cypher look like and how did one use it?

While readiing the Kyngdom threads, I've learned that the Cypher is a device, but the code is a simpler version to communicate with animals and it still works, people have communicated with animals without a Cypher machine and not broken the rules.

Here are some ideas for what could have happened during the timeskip:

-the Resistance withdrew and entered a period of planning what to do next. This ties in well with Catastrophe's current power over Kyngdom.

-B. I. G. has spent the time growing stronger, perhaps partly in secret. Also, is B. I. G. supposed to be allied with Catastrophe? Maybe they could be helping him with the machine he's building on Bleak Peak.

-Jaaws could have disapperared temporarily - this would make things simpler. She could have traveled somewhere to meet someone who would tell her how to take over Kyngdom once and for all. The Resistance could start on a mission to stop her.

These are just random ideas though :)

Also, there's one thing I'm not quite clear on - the Resistance is fighting Catastrophe, and FaFA is fighting B. I. G, but what are they fighting about?

BIG is indeed allied with Catastrophe. They are also helping to build the Bleak Peak machine.

The Resistance and Catastrophe are currently fighting for control over Kyngdom. Currently, Kyngdom is an oligarchy, ruled by special Nobyl families. The Resistance wants to create a republic, meaning Kyngdom would be run by a Council compromised of elected representatives from each area/kingdom. Catastrophe wants to take over Kyngdom, basically becoming a dictator.

FaFA and BIG are fighting over the Powers. FaFA wants the Powers to remain sealed away in their instruments forever, while BIG wants to summon them to use them for vague, nefarious purposes. It should be noted that the Resistance could honestly care less about the Powers, while Catastrophe wants revenge on them.

I'm interested in helping with this, but I don't know the plot of Kyngdom very well. I've been meaning to read the Ultamite Guide for over a year now, but I've never had the time to get far. Would someone mind summarizing it for me? Just a basic overview is fine, all the important stuff. I do mean to read the Ultamite Guide at some point, but I probably won't get to it any time soon and it'd be really helpful if someone could summarize it! If not, that's totally fine too.

Do you mind if I join this? I mean, I don't know much about Kyngdom, but I skimmed through the Ultimate Guide a few months ago, so I have a basic understanding of it.

I checked out Kyngdom's backstory and it is pretty gory and violent. Can we do a new backstory that is not as gory and violent? i'm fine with the BIG letters and the FAFA pawprints, just, the whole backstory is far to gory and violent.

I'm not sure that resetting the backstory is the best idea. I can't say I like the backstory, but older CBers, and Admins, worked hard to build the backstory, and I don't want to throw it all away.

So on the old thread, we decided on a few things:

1) The Powers were an integral part of Kyngdom, and we need to make sure to keep involved somehow.

2) We wouldn't use any characters belonging to the Old Kyngdomers, with the exception of the Powers and Catastrophe and such. Although we might end up using some of the Admin-created characters.

3) We wouldn't reset Kyngdom or erase anything the Old Kyngdomers wrote, because that would be disrespectful to them. This is why we decided on the ten-year timeskip. That way we have space to modify what has happened in the last ten years and insert our own characters without messing with their stuff.

Additions to your agreements:

1)OK, sounds good. There is nothing inherently gory with the Powers.

2)Again, I’m fine with this. But the name Claaws could be offensive to an old CBer named Claaws.

3) This is the major point. The backstory... the SAPs, it is way too gory and CB isn’t supposed to include too gory content, by both the definitions of gory and CB. Consider this please.
