Chatterbox: Inkwell

NEW STORY THREAD!

NEW STORY THREAD!

Okay, I know there's already a bunch in Inkwell right now, but I needed something new. The other ones are not moving or are too developed for me.

Here's my character: Nathaniel

Age: 13

Appearance: Normal looking by regualr standards, with plain brown hair and a gaunt look on his face.

Nathaniel was filled with a fiery rage. Why was it always HIM they decided was nothing special? He would show them! Nathaniel walked away from the building, not believing he had been rejected. It's not like EVERYONE can turn invisible! He filled out about fifteen applications, did one thousand pushups for them, and turn invisble. He couldn't believe they wouldn't let him into superhero school. Just because he couldn't fly.

Nathaniel didn't want to feel the rejection. He was not normal. He did not fit in with normal people. The truth that the people at Shane's Academy, also known as Superpoweed School, were telling him was that he didn't fit in with them either. He didn't fit in anywhere. He felt himslef unwittingly turn invisible and stalk down the road.

Don't feel afraid to use someone else's character or add something that doesn't really have anything to do with the plot!

You're on, Nathaniel.

After John jumped out the window, Brooke turned into a cougar and jumped after him, and Elexhiia as well as he himself followed, Nathaniel wasn't quite sure what to make of the world anymore. John's betrayl, the whole HUNT thing, and Nathaniel didn't even know what the fifteeth element DID. He raced after John, cougar Brooke, and Elexhiia, just before Dr. Mods, who in relent, had followed and was bringing up the rear. Nathaniel drove his legs on with fury, but he wasn't paying much attetion. He was sorting his thoughts.

He was paying enough attention, though, to notice when John's image split into three, and there were suddenly three Johns.

"I forgot to tell you," said the three Johns in creepy harmony. "I also do mind tricks. THe real question is, which one is the real me!?" At a fork in the road, the three differnt Johns broke off into differnt directions.

Everyone came to a hault. Brooke, who had quickly turned human, said, "Let's slipt up," before taking off in one of the directions. Elexhiia noded and went straight, and Nathaniel took to the left. Dr. Moddington was left on the sidewalk looking utterly confused.

Nathaniel flew after the John he was chasing. "Am I the real one?" it taunted. "You'll never know. You'd have to catch me first!" Nathaniel gritted his teeth and kept running.

As fast as Nathaniel run, it wasn't enough. Wait a minute, he thought, wouldn't flying be faster?

Nathaniel gave one last burst of speed with his legs and took to the air.

A look of fear showed on John's face, or the copy of John, whichever it was. John took a sharp turn into a neighboring alleyway, and Nathaniel followed.

It was a dead end, and Nathaniel couldn't help but smile.

There was no smile on John's face.

"Okay, you've caught me. Do what you like. As soon as you touch me, I'll dissapear, I'm just a copy."

"I'd like to ask some questions first," said Nathaniel.

Copy-John smirked. "People don't always get what they like. I know I haven't told you this either, but as a copy, I can fly." Copy-John ros into the air, and Nathaniel was just one step behind him.

Cappie says "gmyp." Cappie thinks Nathaniel is a wimp.

Cool! John has split himself up! He always struck me kinda like that. Don't know why. So, we must follow.

Brooke ~

I tailed one of the Johns, Elexhiia and Nathaniel following the other two. He darted down an alley, over a fence, and through a rush hour busy street where I was nearly hit by a semi, and would have been, had I not turned into a linx. He burst into a building, Town Hall, where we surprised many bored clerks sitting at desks, trying to look important. He shot up two flights of stares, me hot on his heels. We burst onto the roof, where John turned around and looked at me with that creepy smile. I was heaving from the run. John looked fine. "Game over," I snarled as I changed into a panther once more. John just chuckled. "For you, maybe," John replied. Suddenly, I heard voices in the alley below. It was Nathaniel, facing yet another John. I wondered where Elexhiia was. At that moment, they both shot up into the air, flying high into the sky. Since when could John fly? I lunged at John, the realization hitting me a second to late. I passed right through him, and went tumbling off the edge of the building. I had been tailing a fake John all along. I hit the pavement ground hard, immediately turning back to human. I groaned. It wasn't as hard as if I'd been human when I hit, but it still hurt pretty bad. I managed to turn over on my back. I saw John and Nathaniel in the sky, John just taunting Nathaniel along. Where was Elexhiia?

So, Nathaniel is flying after John, I'm alive, battered and bruised but so what? Now where is Elexhiia? And who is chasing the real John? Or are any of us even following him? Cappie says zzik. I think he means sick. Are you sick Cappie?

I don't like threatening people. I really don't. Using people and betraying them isn't so bad- I've done it before. However, if I threaten someone, I don't know if my nerve will fail at the last moment. Besides, threatening someone with water is a little ruthless. I've lied and pretended that I can't swim and that water will kill me. Actually, I can swim just fine and better than any pure human can. I take to water like a fish- literally. If I'm completely submerged in water, i become some kind of weird shark-thing. I grow more teeth that are sharper than my own normal human teeth. A fin grows on my back. My legs grow together. I have gills on my shoulders and back. I can sense electricity and vibrations better than I can in human form. I can control mysef reasonably well, except circumstances when blood is involved. I'm more bloodthristy as a shark-human than a vampire. The water vapor around me isn't enough to turn me into a shark, even on foggy or rainy days. Then, my skin gets itchy and my gills start opening, which makes me bad-tempered and irritable, but nothing else happens. I can't have a bath but a shower just changes me partially. I can really hurt people, without even trying. Giovanni's hands have countless scars, where I bit him when I was younger and couldn't control myself very well. I didn't want to hurt Catherine in this way, but if I needed to, I would.

"I-I'm not sure where to go. I need to just start finding people who are sympathetic to my cause, i suppose. There are ususally a few in each world. So let's just start somewhere and work ourr way around," I tried to sound forceful. Catherine was scared, I could clearly tell. I needed to exploit this fright of hers. A frightened person is dangerous, but it's better than a person who won't do your bidding.

Catherine fumbled in her bag for a moment and then drew out The Looking Glass Wars. "Will this do?"

I knew Redd existed in this world, and she had an extraordianry amount of powers and followers. "Sure. Let's start here." And we were off. To a warped version of Wonderland.

Right, right, The Looking Glass Wars. Got it.

I've met my fair share of villians, and some of them don't scare me at all. However, there are some that make me realise I may not make it back alive. Unfortunatly, Redd is one of the latter group. I was nervous, really nervous, so nervous that my knees buckled on the hard pavement of Wondertroplis. Was it pavement? I wasn't really sure whether it was called something else here. No matter. I had selected the time after Redd had returned to Wonderland, becuase she was more powerful then.

"When is this?" Storm asked.

"Sometime in book three, I think. Are we going to seek Arch's alliance?"

"No, I don't agree with most of his principles." (I rolled my eyes at this.) "And we need to go back in time here."

"Why?"

"Redd is too powerful. It's dangerous. We need to go back before Alyss's birthday party. We can promise her information only we would know from reading the books. We also promise our skills after she leaps into the Heart Crystal. We jump forward to her return and continue assisting her."

Well, I had to admit it made sense. "Fine."

A jump out of the book and a jump into The Looking Glass Wars. Right at the beginning. "I can't go any further back than this. This will have to do." I explained.

"I need rope."

What?

"Well, I want to find the Cat. He can lead us to Redd. But I can't capture him without some really strong rope."

I've read somewhere that a good adventure always needs a good rope, so I have one in my backpack. It's been imbued with some charms that allow it to never break. I don't remember where I got it. I put down my backpack and started hunting in it. No easy task, as I had packed in it a small library, the neccesites for months of travel, and a few other things besides. Finally, I unearthed the rope and tossed it to Storm and began piling socks back into the backpack.

"I'll be back shortly," Storm announced. He strode off to Heart Palace. I sat onmy backpack, staring at him gloomily. I wondered how long it would take Storm with the Cat. I looked longlingly at the beautiful palace. Somewhere, they were sharing tarty tarts with the public, and heck, if a tarty tart didn't sound good, I don't know what did.

I picked up my backpack and stood up, heading off in search of a traty tart. The gaurds seemed to decde that I looked trustworthy and let me through. I made my way to the gardens. I blinked at the sheer beauty of the place and the singing flowers singing something I had never heard before. I recognised some people I had never met before- Hatter Madigan, Bibwit Harte, and even- was it really?- Princess Alyss Heart! I watched as she offered a plate of delicious looking cake to her tutor, Bibwit Harte. I giggled, rememberign it was only a plate of gwormmies.

"What's so funny?"

I almost fell over from shock. I spun around and accosted Storm. "What are you doing here? I thought you were catching the Cat!"

"I might ask you the same question. And I don't know where the Cat is. I only know that Alyss and Dodge run into him. All I need to do is be where they wil be a few minutes before they are there."

"So you've been tailing Alyss? This whole time?"I accused.

"It hasn't been that long of time, honest. I had to sneak past the gaurds. I'm surprised you and that backapck managed to get in. And speaking of that, what are you doing here?"

I felt a little silly telling him that I was looking for a tarty tart, so I told him rather snootily, "I'm enjoying Wondertroplis before you and Redd wreck it."

"Lovely. Now if you'lll excuse me, I have a Princess to tail."

Captcha says rdog. Speaking of tails,...

AAAAGH! I JUST LOST ALL MY AWESOME PROGRESS!!! CURSE YOU, DAN THE COMPUTER!!!

Nathaniel, you're on. Again.

Nathaniel was at a disadvantage.

He was just inches behind the heel of fake John's shoe, but the inches seemed to strech into miles. Fake John wasn't giving up, and Nathaniel didn't have anything to stop him with. He was flying as fast as he could, and the thrill of the wind hitting his face was ruined by the fact that fake John was still in front of him, taunting him.

"You can't catch me!" he declared.

"I know," muttered Nathaniel. There's got to be some trick to this! he though. Fake John's got to have a weakness!

Fake John burst out laughing. "Is that what you're calling me?! Fake John?!" He laughed again, but he never let his guard down, still just inches away from Nathaniel's outstreched hand.

Stupid telepath, thought Nathaniel.

Then it hit him. Telepath. Flight. What was Fake John doing? He was flying AND reading Nathaniel's mind! A look of concern flew over fake John's face. He knew what Nathaniel was going to do, and fifteenth element or not, he was quite powerless to stop him.

Nathaniel grinned, and in a flash, he turned invisble.

It was quite a flash indeed. It had started to rain. A thunderstorm.

"This isn't safe," said not John.

"The most sensible thing you've said all day," agreed Nathaniel, and he dove towards fake John, disntergrating him with a flick at his shoe.

Nathaniel smiled to himself. One down, two to go. He looked up at the sky. He really should go before something bad happened to him, such as being struck by lightning.

Crack!!! Lightning struck nearby, hitting a lightning rod. That's right, though Nathaniel. I should go. I wouldn't make a very good lightning rod.

With that thought, he drifted down to the ground.

You're on, Brooke!

Brooke ~

I ran over to where Nathaniel landed. Rain had begun to fall hard, and it lashed into my eyes. Lightning flashed across the sky. "He wasn't real," Nathaniel said. "Mine wasn't either," I answered, wiping rain from my eyes. "Then it has to be Elexhiia's!" Nathaniel shouted to be heard over the rain and thunder. "Where did she go?" "Down that main alley," I anwered. We took off in the general direction. The weather continued to become worse. My lace-up boots continued to slide around, making running difficult. The sky and world continued to darken, making me wonder just what was really going on. We arrived back at our original location, and headed down the central alley. I was wearing down. My lungs throbbed, and we could hardly see three feet ahead of us. We suddenly ran into something hard, knocking us both backwards. I stood up, rubbing my head, and stared. A wall. A dead end. "Where could they have gone?" I asked Nathaniel, who simply shook his head. Then a chilling thought struck me. Elexhiia had been tailing the real John. Just what all was he capable of? Where is Elexhiia?

So rather short, but, since Tovah hasn't written lately, I wasn't sure what to do about Elexhiia.
