The newsprint plopped onto the table before her.

"Hmph. This paper is very nice and all, but I thought you subscribed me to a copy of The New York Times!"Jenny complained to her mother. "I thought that you were going to get me Muse also!"She stalked out of the room.

How's that for a great beginning?

It's not like you gave us a lot to work with... but we'll try our best! :)

"She is so picky," mumured Matilda Buwhelt. "Why must she try to make everyone's lives so miserable?" As though to prove her mother's words correct, Jenny could be heard griping at her younger siblings, Jake and Joshua, 6, and Maddelynn, 2. Jenny herself was almost thirteen. Which would explain it, thought Matilda to herself.

Jenny had been antsy like this ever since her father Nathaniel was shipped overseas to the war and vanished. Matilda had shed many tears and was exceedingly anxious herself, but tried to keep a good outlike and disposition. She had hoped that as the eldest (well, sixteen-year-old Richard, who insisted he be called Rocly, was no help, hanging out with his vulgar friends and acting like he did) she would try to understand and help with the little ones, but these visions of familial peace and prosperity were not shared by Jenny, now kicking her bedroom wall. Matilda was sure this would merit complaints from other tenants and then a repremand from the landlord. It was hard enough paying the rent; was Jennifer trying to get them thrown out, too?

I've had a name change, which might explain why you're not hearing from "Firebrite" any more.

As Matilda had expected, the landlord came scurrying up the stairs. "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!?!?" he exclaimed."This is an apartment! There are other people living here! The next time something strange or destructive happens, you are ON YOUR OWN!"
